      Nick Pivetta surrendered five runs in four-plus innings Friday in a loss to the Padres.

      Advice: Pivetta pitched four scoreless innings, striking out four, before giving up four straight hits and a walk to begin the fifth. He was pulled at that point, and the Padres ended up scoring nine times in the frame. Pivetta has allowed 15 earned runs over 19 1/3 innings in his last four starts, taking his season ERA from 3.40 to 4.52.       Yordan Alvarez went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a walk, and a run scored on Friday against the Mets.

      Advice: Raley will miss his second straight game due to soreness in his shoulder. The good news, is that an MRI revealed no structural damage and the 29-year-old outfielder is expected to be available off the Mariners’ bench on Friday. He should be considered day-to-day.     • Eduardo Rodriguez heading for follow-up MRI
      Eduardo Rodriguez (lat) will undergo another follow-up MRI exam on July 6.

      Advice: If all goes well with that exam, it sounds like the 31-year-old southpaw will finally be cleared to resume throwing off of a mound. Once that’s done, he’ll need several sessions off the mound before facing live hitters and then several minor league rehab starts before he’s ready to join the Diamondbacks’ rotation.       Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said Friday that Rodriguez (shoulder) is scheduled for a follow-up MRI on July 6, Jesse Friedman of GoPHNX.com reports.

      Advice: Rodriguez extended his throwing program out to 105 feet earlier in June, and Lovullo noted that the southpaw could start throwing off the mound depending on the results of the MRI. Rodriguez has been out all season after straining his left shoulder in spring training, and his initial throwing program was shut down in April due to shoulder tightness.       Advice: Torres may have been dealing with a minor injury, or his absence from the lineup the last two days could have been a punishment for failing to run out a ground ball. Either way, he’s back in there at second base and batting fifth against Yusei Kikuchi and the Blue Jays on Friday evening in Toronto.       Berrios (7-6) earned the win against the Yankees on Thursday, allowing two runs on two hits and three walks while striking out eight batters over seven innings.

      Advice: Berrios had been struggling coming into Thursday, allowing nine runs over 11 frames across his past two starts. He rebounded nicely against New York, giving up just two runs on a fifth-inning homer by Trent Grisham. The right-handed hurler also registered a season-high eight strikeouts en route to his 12th quality start.
