    • Blasted as bulk reliever
Suarez (1-2) took the loss against San Francisco on Sunday, allowing five runs on five hits and one walk over one-plus inning.

Advice: Ben Joyce worked two frames as the opener in the contest, and Suarez was deployed next, presumably to attempt to cover multiple innings. That plan seemed to be on track when the left-hander tossed a scoreless third frame (despite giving up two hits), but Suarez then allowed five straight batters to reach -- on three doubles, a walk and a hit-by-pitch -- in the bottom of the fourth and was consequently given the hook. Suarez has given up nine runs over 3.2 innings across his past two appearances, pushing his season ERA up to an ugly 8.15. Rotowire.com 34 minutes ago

    • Ups pitch count in side session
Cobb (hip/shoulder) threw a bullpen session Friday consisting of 30-to-35 pitches, MLB.com reports.

Advice: Cobb resumed throwing off a mound Tuesday with a 25-pitch session, and he felt good enough coming out of that workout to tack on another 5-to-10 pitches to his workload a few days later. The Giants haven't indicated whether Cobb will be ready to face hitters during the upcoming week, or if he'll continue to increase the volume and intensity of his bullpen sessions. Either way, the Giants likely aren't counting on Cobb being ready to make his 2024 debut until around the All-Star break. After undergoing surgery on his left hip Oct. 31, Cobb appeared poised to beat initial projections for his recovery timeline and return from the injured list in the first or second month of the season, but those hopes were dashed after he experienced irritation in his right shoulder in April and again in May, both of which resulted in his throwing program being put on pause for multiple weeks. • Unlikely to return this week
Giants manager Bob Melvin said Sunday that it's likely a "stretch" for Wade (hamstring) to return from the 10-day injured list before Thursday's matchup with the Cardinals at Rickwood Field in Birmingham, Ala., MLB.com reports.

Advice: Wade was diagnosed with a Grade 2 left hamstring strain after suffering the injury while sliding into second base in a May 27 win over the Phillies. Though a Grade 2 strain often entails a recovery timeline of more than a month, Wade said last week that his goal was to make it back for MLB's June 20 Negro Leagues tribute game as the Giants' designated hitter. Wade took steps forward this past week by taking batting practice on the field and increasing the intensity of his running progression, but the 30-year-old looks like he'll still at least one week away from being a realistic option to return from the IL. Wilmer Flores should continue to serve as the Giants' primary first baseman while Wade remains out. Rotowire.com 47 minutes ago

    • Slated to throw this week
Musgrove (elbow) is expected to play catch Wednesday or Thursday, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Advice: This will be the first time Musgrove has thrown since he went on the injured list June 1 due to a bone spur in his right elbow. The right-hander acknowledged that his new slider may have contributed to the issue and indicated Saturday that he is considering how to alter either the grip or his wrist action on the pitch. Musgrove also shared that he is working to change the landing on his delivery in order to reduce the stress on his arm, saying, "I do think that that delivery, like the release point and like how it's coming out of my hand right now, now that it's aggravated, I've got to try to make some kind of adjustment to not re-aggravate it without having months of rest time and let it calm down. I gotta find a way to adjust." There's still a possibility that the veteran hurler could need surgery to remove the bone spur, but even if he avoids that scenario, he probably won't be ready to rejoin the Padres until late July. • Sim game on tap Tuesday
Snell (groin) is scheduled to throw a three-inning simulated game Tuesday, MLB.com reports.

Advice: On the injured list once again due to a left groin strain after previously missing just over a month earlier in the season with a left adductor strain, Snell looks to be tracking toward an abbreviated stint on the shelf. He completed a bullpen session in San Francisco on Saturday and will now advance to the next phase of his rehab by facing hitters. If all goes well Tuesday, Snell could avoid a rehab assignment and return to the San Francisco rotation as soon as this Saturday or Sunday in St. Louis. Rotowire.com 55 minutes ago

    • Set to return from IL this week
Rodriguez (back) rejoined the Blue Jays following his rehab start with Triple-A Buffalo on Sunday and is expected to be reinstated from the 15-day injured list later this week, Francys Romero of BeisbolFR.com reports.

Advice: In his sixth and final rehab outing with Buffalo, Rodriguez tossed 79 pitches over three innings, striking out seven while giving up two earned runs on three hits and three walks. Per Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca, Rodriguez's fastball averaged 93 miles per hour -- just one tick behind his season-long average over four starts with Toronto -- and topped out at 96. He'll likely step in as the Blue Jays' new No. 5 starter during this weekend's series in Cleveland, though manager John Schneider could choose to deploy Rodriguez as part of a tandem with Bowden Francis. In three of his previous four starts prior to landing on the IL on April 30 with thoracic spine inflammation, Rodriguez had been followed by Francis out of the bullpen and covered between three and four innings on each occasion. • Shut down with injury at Triple-A
Triple-A Buffalo placed Danner on its 7-day injured list Tuesday with an unspecified injury.

Advice: Danner is a member of the Blue Jays' 40-man roster, but he's pitched exclusively with Buffalo this season. Over 22.2 innings out of the Triple-A bullpen, Danner has turned in a 3.18 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 24:9 K:BB. Rotowire.com Today, 10:55 am

    • Shut down at Triple-A
Triple-A Buffalo placed Espino on its 7-day injured list Wednesday with an unspecified injury.

Advice: Espino hadn't pitched for Buffalo since May 30 before he was deactivated. The 37-year-old right-hander made two appearances for the Blue Jays earlier in the season and still possesses a spot on Toronto's 40-man roster, but he's pitched exclusively at the Triple-A level since mid-April. He owns a 4.57 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 29:15 K:BB in 43.1 innings over his nine starts with Buffalo. Rotowire.com Today, 10:53 am

    • Knocked around by Mets on Sunday
Estrada retired only one batter (via strikeout) while giving up four runs on five hits and one walk against the Mets on Sunday.

Advice: When Estrada entered in the bottom of the eighth inning, the Padres were only one run down after posting a four-run top of the frame. However, the reliever negated the comeback bid by allowing four runs of his own as New York racked up five hits -- including a homer and a double -- against him. Estrada began his tenure with San Diego in eye-opening fashion, allowing just two earned runs over his first 21 innings while recording a 35:7 K:BB. However, he's come back to earth in his past two outings, giving up five runs over 1.1 frames. Rotowire.com Today, 10:37 am
