• Shaky in return
Lawrence allowed two earned runs on two hits and one walk while striking out two across 1.1 innings Monday against the Dodgers.

Advice: Lawrence was activated from the injured list Monday after missing around three weeks with a shoulder injury. He recorded the final out in the eighth inning without issue, but he then allowed the first two batters of the ninth frame to reach base -- leading to his two earned runs. Lawrence was projected to be Colorado's primary closer entering the season, but he has only two saves and two holds while struggling to a 6.35 ERA and 1.85 WHIP in 21 appearances. • Activated from injured list
The Rockies reinstated Lawrence (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list Monday.

Advice: Lawrence had been on the shelf since May 27 with a right shoulder strain. He didn't look particularly good in his lone rehab appearance with Triple-A Albuquerque on Friday, allowing two runs on three hits one walk while registering one out. The Rockies were convinced enough in the 29-year-old's health to add him back to the big-league bullpen ahead of Monday's series opener with the Dodgers. He had previously picked up two saves in his 20 appearances with the Rockies prior to landing on the IL, but Lawrence will likely serve as a setup man for closer Tyler Kinley upon his return. • Returns from IL
The Rockies reinstated Bird (elbow) from the 15-day injured list Monday.

Advice: Bird had been on the IL since May 19 due to right elbow inflammation. Over his three rehab appearances with Triple-A Albuquerque and the rookie-level Arizona Complex League, Bird allowed one earned run while striking out five over three innings. The 28-year-old right-hander should settle into a middle-relief or setup role for the Rockies as the team begins a four-game series Monday against the Dodgers. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 2:07 pm

  • Rockies get former closer Lawrence back from IL
Rockies activated RHP Justin Lawrence from the 15-day injured list.

Advice: Lawrence missed three weeks with a shoulder strain. It’ll probably take a little while, but he should work his way back into the closing mix for the Rockies as the year goes along. That’s no reason to roster him at the moment, though. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:50 pm
  • Rockies activate Jake Bird from injured list
Rockies activated RHP Jake Bird from the 15-day injured list.

Advice: Bird had a 6.10 ERA in 19 appearances before going on the injured list with elbow inflammation last month. He’ll try to win back a setup role. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:47 pm

  • Michael Wacha will begin a rehab assignment
Royals RHP Michael Wacha (foot) will begin a rehab assignment on Monday in the Arizona Complex League.

Advice: Wacha was hit in the foot by a comebacker on May 31st and was placed on the IL with a fracture a couple of days later. He threw a three-inning simulated game last Thursday and reported no issues, so he’ll step up to a short rehab start and continue to work his way back from there. Provided his foot responds well to this start, he could quickly move through the rehab process. Rotoworld Yesterday, 12:36 pm

  • Completes live bullpen session
Cabrera (shoulder) threw two innings and 35 pitches in a live bullpen session Friday, MLB.com reports.

Advice: The bullpen session was Cabrera's second of the week; he previously threw a 30-pitch up-and-down session Tuesday. Cabrera could take the next step forward this week by facing hitters in live batting practice before he heads out on a minor-league rehab assignment that will likely consist of one or two starts. He's been on the injured list since May 8 with a right shoulder impingement and isn't expected to rejoin the Miami rotation until late June or early July. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 12:05 pm

  • Making rehab start in ACL
Wacha (foot) will make a rehab start Monday in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League.

Advice: According to Anne Rogers of MLB.com, Royals manager Matt Quatraro said Sunday that Wacha may need only the one outing in the minors before returning from the 15-day injured list and making his next start with Kansas City this coming weekend in Arlington versus the Rangers. Wacha threw a three-inning simulated game Thursday, so he could be stretched out for close to a typical starter's workload if he's able to tack on another inning during Monday's outing. The right-hander has been on the injured list since June 2 with a non-displaced left foot fracture. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:40 am

  • Could start Wednesday or Thursday
Astros general manager Dana Brown said Sunday that Verlander (neck) could pitch either Wednesday or Thursday against the White Sox in Houston, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Manager Joe Espada suggested earlier in the day that Verlander could rejoin the rotation for the Chicago series, and Brown's comments help further narrow down a potential return date for the 41-year-old righty. Verlander was unable to make his scheduled start Saturday versus the Tigers after experiencing neck discomfort during his bullpen session Wednesday, prompting the Astros to push both Spencer Arrighetti and Ronel Blanco ahead in the pitching schedule. The extra rest appears to have done Verlander some good, as he was able to play catch prior to Sunday's series finale with Detroit. He'll likely try to throw another bullpen session Monday or Tuesday before the Astros lock him for a start against the White Sox. Rotowire.com Sunday, 5:18 pm
