  • Kimbrel picks up 14th save Friday
    Craig Kimbrel tossed a clean ninth inning and picked up the save against the Rays on Friday.

    Advice: The save was Kimbrel’s 14th of the season and came on the heels of him taking the loss in his last appearance against the Blue Jays on Wednesday. That wasn’t a save opportunity, though.   • Alexis Díaz gives up run, earns 13th save
    Alexis Díaz recorded his 13th save despite giving up a run in the ninth Friday against the Cubs.

    Advice: After getting two well-hit lineouts to start the ninth, Díaz walked a batter and allowed an RBI double. He then struck out Patrick Wisdom to end the game with a 3-2 score. Díaz has made 26 appearances this season and turned in a perfect inning three times. Still, as shaky as he’s been, he’s 13-for-15 saving games. Rotoworld Today, 6:43 pm
     
  • Irvin allows three runs and picks up win Friday
    Cole Irvin allowed three runs (two earned) in 5 2/3 innings and got the win in the Orioles’ 6-3 victory over the Rays on Friday.



    Advice: Irvin gave up eight hits, walked none and struck out six. The win was his sixth of the season. Irvin hasn’t allowed more than three earned runs since his second start of the year back on April 10th. His ERA on the season is now 2.87, though his 4.19 xFIP tells a different story. The 30-year-old left-hander will see if he can keep it going against the Braves at home next week.

  • Up to 17 saves
    Finnegan earned the save Friday in a 2-1 win over Atlanta, striking out a pair in a scoreless ninth inning.

    Advice: Finnegan is now 17-for-19 in save chances this year, tied for fourth-most in the majors. The right-hander's allowed just two earned runs in his last 23 appearances (23.1 innings), lowering his ERA to 1.80 with a 0.92 WHIP and 25:10 K:BB across 25 innings this season.     Poteet is scheduled to start Friday's game against the Dodgers at Yankee Stadium.

    Advice: The right-hander will be making his third start of the season for the Yankees and his second straight turn through the rotation. He struck out six over five innings while allowing three runs (two earned) in a winning effort against the Giants last Saturday following his call-up from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Unless the Yankees get hit by another injury in their rotation, Poteet's stay in the majors will likely come to an end once Gerrit Cole (elbow) makes his expected return from the 60-day injured list later this month.     Stanek threw a perfect ninth inning Thursday against Oakland to pick up the save.

    Advice: Stanek got the call in the ninth with closer Andres Munoz (back) unavailable and corralled his fourth save of the season. While Munoz is expected to return this weekend, Stanek should be the Mariners' go-to closing option in the meantime.     Irvin will start Friday's game against the Rays, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.

    Advice: Irvin will start on regular rest, so it's not particularly notable that he will take the ball for Baltimore on Friday.
