    Jung Hoo Lee (foot) remains out of the Giants’ starting lineup for Friday night’s showdown against the Reds.

Giants’ skipper Bob Melvin said Friday that Lee may need an additional day off on Saturday, but that he should be able to return after that and won’t require a trip to the injured list.     Red Sox’ manager Alex Cora announced Friday that Masataka Yoshida will not require surgery on his injured left thumb.

    Advice: He’s still going to be shut down for a couple of weeks before he starts swinging a bat again, but overall this is encouraging news for the Red Sox and for fantasy managers. Yoshida has been shelved since the beginning of May. He has hit .275/.348/.388 with a pair of homers, 11 RBI and an 11/6 K/BB ratio over 89 plate appearances in 24 games on the season.     Advice: Canzone is expected to play in four games with Tacoma before the Mariners will access his status. The 26-year-old has been on the 10-day injured list since April 15 with an AC joint sprain in his left shoulder and he now appears to be on the cusp of returning to the major-league roster.
