• Jake Cave suffers injury during batting practice
Jake Cave had to be carted off the field on Friday after taking a line drive off his head during batting practice.

Advice: Cave was down on the ground for roughly 10 minutes before he was carted off the field in a scary situation pregame on Friday. He’ll head for further evaluation. Look for the Rockies to provide an update on his status as soon as one becomes available. Rotoworld Yesterday, 3:38 pm

  • Carted off field during BP
Cave was carted off the field during the Rockies' pre-game batting practice after being hit in the side of the head by a line drive, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports.

Advice: Cave was stationed in right field as the Rockies took BP. Trainers were seen applying pressure to the outfielder's head before he was carted off the field. Cave was slated to bat eighth and play right field but was scratched after the incident. The severity of the injury isn't yet known. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 3:30 pm

  • Not starting versus LHP
Brooks isn't in the Giants' lineup for Friday's game against the Angels, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Advice: Brooks will take a seat Friday as lefty Tyler Anderson toes the slab for the Angels. Wilmer Flores will get the nod at first base while batting fifth. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 3:16 pm

  • On base five times in loss
Perez went 2-for-2 with three walks in Wednesday's 11-5 loss to the Yankees.

Advice: Perez walked three times in a game for the first time in his career. The catcher has gone just 6-for-33 (.182) over 10 contests in June, but he's shown rare patience at the plate by drawing eight walks in that span. For the season, he's at a .302/.381/.488 slash line with 10 home runs, 42 RBI, 26 runs scored, 15 doubles and no stolen bases, and his 9.0 percent walk rate is double his previous career high, which was in a 39-game sample as a rookie in 2011. • Taking slight swings
Casas (ribs) has begun taking slight swings off a tee, Julian McWilliams of The Boston Globe reports.

Advice: Casas experienced lingering pain in the rib area when rotating his torso, which delayed his progression. Once Casas' slight swings lead to normal swings in a live batting practice, the Red Sox should have a better gauge for his return. He had originally planned to be ready when eligible June 21, but that has been pushed back to early July. Rotowire.com Thursday, 6:09 am

  • Checking out of lineup Wednesday
Tellez is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cardinals.

Advice: Though he'll take a seat against a right-hander (Sonny Gray), the lefty-hitting Tellez seems to have a firmer grasp on a strong-side platoon role these days while he's begun to heat up at the plate. Over his last six games, Tellez has gone 9-for-19 with a home run, three doubles, two walks, seven RBI and three runs. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 3:52 pm
  • Drops out of lineup vs. lefty
Smith is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Phillies.

Advice: With lefty Cristopher Sanchez on the hill for Philadelphia, the lefty-hitting Smith will hit the bench after starting in each of the last three contests. Bobby Dalbec will check in at first base Wednesday and could end up serving as Smith's regular platoon mate moving forward in the wake of Garrett Cooper being designated for assignment. • Re-entering starting lineup
Meneses will start at first base and bat sixth in Wednesday's game against the Tigers.

Advice: Meneses had been on the bench for each of the Nationals' previous three games, but he'll get the first opportunity to enter the lineup in place of Joey Gallo (hamstring), who landed on the 10-day injured list Wednesday. After turning in a .722 OPS in his first full season in the big leagues in 2023, Meneses has taken a big step back thus far in 2024, slashing just .232/.292/.296 with a miniscule .064 ISO across 226 plate appearances. • Heading to bench versus lefty
Brooks is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Astros, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Advice: The lefty-hitting Brooks will hit the bench for the second day in a row, this time against a lefty (Framber Valdez) after sitting versus right-hander Ronel Blanco in Tuesday's 3-1 loss. Brooks and Wilmer Flores will continue to form a rough platoon at first base while LaMonte Wade (hamstring) is on the shelf, though Flores will still see some select starts against right-handed pitching.
