• Tom Murphy clubs solo homer in loss Wednesday
Tom Murphy clubbed his first home run of the season on Wednesday night, but it wasn’t enough to power the Giants past the Red Sox in Boston.

Advice: Murphy walloped a 407-foot (106.4 mph EV) solo shot off of Kutter Crawford to lead off the third inning, giving the Giants an early 1-0 lead. It would be short-lived. The 33-year-old backstop finished the night 1-for-3 and is now slashing .100/.206/.233 with two RBI through his first 34 plate appearances on the season. Rotoworld 52 minutes ago

  • Daulton Jefferies surrenders four runs in loss
Daulton Jefferies was saddled with his second loss of the season on Wednesday, surrendering four runs on five hits over 2 2/3 innings of work against the Red Sox.

Advice: The 28-year-old right-hander took over after Erik Miller worked a scoreless first inning on Wednesday, and it didn’t take him long to surrender the Giants’ early 1-0 lead. He allowed a pair of runs in the third inning on an RBI double by Rafael Devers and a run-scoring ground out by Rob Refsnyder. The Red Sox scratched out two more runs while chasing Jefferies in the fourth inning. With a 17.36 ERA and 3.43 WHIP over 4 2/3 innings in two appearances with the Giants, it seems likely that he’ll be sent right back to Triple-A Sacramento. Rotoworld 55 minutes ago
  • Nico Hoerner reaches three times against Mets
Nico Hoerner went 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, and a stolen base on Wednesday in a 1-0 win over the Mets.

Advice: Hoerner knocked a double in the first inning, then a single in the fifth. He drew a walk in the eighth to reach for a third time and stole second for his second steal of the season. Hoerner has hit out of the leadoff spot for the Cubs over the last two weeks, with both steals coming over that span. The 26-year-old second baseman is hitting .272/.349/.360 with 18 runs scored across 129 plate appearances. Hitting leadoff would help his stolen base rate if he can hold the top spot in the lineup. • Matt Mervis doubles, scores run against Mets
Matt Mervis went 1-for-4 with a double and a run scored on Wednesday against the Mets.

Advice: Mervis doubled to lead off the fifth inning and took third base on a wild pitch. A sacrifice fly by Pete Crow-Armstrong brought Mervis in to score the only run of the game. The 26-year-old first baseman is 3-for-23 to start the year since he’s taken a strong-side platoon role against right-handers with the Cubs. Rotoworld 56 minutes ago

  • Héctor Neris holds on for fifth save Wednesday
Héctor Neris worked a scoreless ninth inning for the save against the Mets on Wednesday.

Advice: Neris was summoned in the ninth inning to close out the game with a one-run lead. He recorded one out, then hit a batter and gave up a double to put the tying run on third and the go-ahead run in scoring position. Jeff McNeil hit a fly out and Pete Alonso was tagged out at home to end the game. Neris is up to five saves despite some shaky outings. Rotoworld 56 minutes ago
  • Shota Imanaga tosses seven shutout frames in win
Shota Imanaga tossed seven shutout innings with seven strikeouts in a win over the Mets on Wednesday.

Advice: Imanaga continues his impressive debut in the majors, making his best start yet on Wednesday with seven shutout frames against the Mets. He worked around three hits and one walk, generating 15 whiffs to strike out seven. The 30-year-old left-hander lowers his ERA to a microscopic 0.78 with a 0.75 WHIP and a 35/4 K/BB ratio across 34 2/3 innings. He lines up for a start against the Padres in Chicago on Monday. • José Buttó strikes out six in quality start vs. Cubs
José Buttó allowed one run with six strikeouts across six innings in a loss against the Cubs on Wednesday.

Advice: Buttó was excellent on Wednesday, holding Chicago to just one run in a quality start. A double and a wild pitch put a runner on third in the fifth inning before Pete Crow-Armstrong drove in the run on a sacrifice fly. It was the third time in five starts Buttó has gone six innings with no more than one run allowed. The The 26-year-old right-hander ends the day with a 2.57 ERA, 1.07 WHIP, and a 31/14 K/BB ratio across 28 innings. He’ll take on Cardinals in St. Louis on Monday. Rotoworld 59 minutes ago

  • Dane Myers drives in two as Marlins top Rockies
Dane Myers delivered a pinch-hit, two-run single in the eighth inning on Wednesday, helping to lead the Marlins to a 4-1 victory over the visiting Rockies.

Advice: The 28-year-old outfielder came on to bat for Christian Bethancourt with the bases loaded and two outs in the eighth inning. He responded by lining a 1-1 offering from Nick Mears into right field for a two-run single to provide the Marlins with a pair of valuable insurance runs. He’s now 4-for-8 (.500) with a pair of runs scored and five RBI since being recalled from Triple-A Jacksonville on Sunday. Rotoworld Today, 6:34 pm

  • Called up, will be primary pitcher
The Giants recalled Jefferies from Triple-A Sacramento prior to Wednesday's game against the Red Sox in Boston.

Advice: Left-hander Erik Miller is slated to open the game for the Giants, but he's unlikely to work more than an inning or two before turning the game over to the bullpen. According to Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area, Jefferies is expected to cover the bulk of the innings out of the bullpen as he makes his first appearance for the Giants since giving up five earned runs over two innings in a spot start back on March 31 in San Diego. The Giants optioned Landen Roupp to Triple-A to clear room on the 26-man active roster for Jefferies. Rotowire.com Today, 1:18 pm
