    • Looks mortal versus Phillies
Cease (3-2) took the loss against Philadelphia on Saturday, allowing five runs on six hits and three walks while striking out five batters over six innings.

Advice: Prior to Saturday, Cease hadn't given up more than two earned runs in any of his five starts and had pitched to a 1.82 ERA. That number ballooned to 2.78 after the outing against Philadelphia, with Alec Bohm accounting for four RBI against the right-hander. Despite the hiccup, Cease has been the Padres' most effective starter this season, and he'll look to bounce back into form in his next appearance, which projects to come on the road in Arizona. • Dylan Cease walks three, allows five in loss
Dylan Cease gave up five runs in six innings of work while picking up a loss Saturday against the Phillies.

Advice: Cease was going to have to be at his best to match Ranger Suárez, and unfortunately he wasn’t close. The right-hander did whiff five, but he gave up six hits that included a two-run homer from Alec Bohm. In his first season with the Padres, Cease has posted a very solid 2.78 ERA despite this not-so-effective outing. A chance to lower that figure comes Friday in Arizona. • Swats homer in win
Mountcastle went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's 7-0 win over the Athletics.

Advice: The long ball was Mountcastle's first hit in three games since he recovered from a minor knee issue. He posted multiple hits in seven of the 11 games prior to the injury. The first baseman has been solid this year, slashing .299/.364/.483 with three homers, 12 RBI, 15 runs scored and seven doubles over 99 plate appearances, though he has yet to attempt to steal a base. • Four hits in return to lineup
Yoshida went 4-for-5 with an RBI and three runs scored in Saturday's victory over the Cubs.

Advice: Yoshida did not start the previous five games, as the Red Sox utilized Rafael Devers and Tyler O'Neill at designated hitter as they returned from injuries. He did his best to make up for lost time Saturday, doubling in a run while also adding three singles. While he has been used very little this week, the expectation is that Yoshida will remain the team's primary DH moving forward. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 5:57 pm
    • Ryan Mountcastle blasts solo homer on Saturday
Ryan Mountcastle went 1-for-4 with a solo homer against the A’s on Saturday.

Advice: Mountcastle’s only hit of the day left the yard, going back-to-back with Adley Rutschman for a solo homer in the fifth inning off JP Sears. It was the second home run of the season for the 27-year-old first baseman to go with a .299/.364/.483 slash line and 12 RBI across 99 plate appearances. Rotoworld Yesterday, 3:28 pm
    • Not starting Saturday
Velazquez is not in the starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Tigers.

Advice: Velazquez will begin Saturday's game on the bench with the Tigers sending out right-hander Casey Mize. Velazquez is hitless over his last six games and has reached base twice on walks over that span. Lefty-hitting Adam Frazier will start at DH and bat fifth in the lineup Saturday. • Rehab assignment approaching
Manager Craig Counsell said Saturday that Steele (hamstring) will begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Iowa on Wednesday, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Advice: Counsell didn't say how many starts the Cubs want Steele to make in the minors, but the 28-year-old southpaw is likely in for multiple rehab outings after sitting out roughly a month due to a strained left hamstring. Assuming his assignment goes smoothly, Steele will likely return to Chicago's rotation toward the middle of May. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 12:17 pm

    • Justin Steele set to make rehab start this week
Cubs manager Craig Counsell told reporters Saturday that Justin Steele (hamstring) will make a minor league rehab start this week.

Advice: Steele continues to progress towards rejoining Chicago’s starting rotation after landing on the injured list back in late March with a left hamstring strain. The 28-year-old southpaw should be ready to return in early-to-mid May. Rotoworld Yesterday, 11:55 am

    • Masataka Yoshida back in lineup Saturday vs. Cubs
Masataka Yoshida is back in the lineup for Saturday’s showdown against the Cubs.

Advice: Yoshida is back in Boston’s starting lineup for the first time in five contests since last weekend. The 30-year-old slugger holds a .660 OPS with two homers through 22 games this season and has ceded playing time at designated hitter lately due to Rafael Devers’ ongoing physical issues.
