• Stuffs stat sheet Wednesday
Smith went 3-for-4 with a home run, a double, a walk, two total RBI and a stolen base in Wednesday's 9-1 victory against the Tigers.

Advice: Smith gave the Rangers a 2-0 lead with his solo shot to right field in the third inning and added an RBI single in the sixth. For good measure, the third baseman sweetened his stat line with a stolen base following a first-inning walk. Smith continues to shine at the hot corner for Texas, getting at least one hit in eight of his past nine games and batting .361 (13-for-36) with two homers, three doubles, four RBI, seven runs and two steals over that span. • Reaches career milestone
Turner went 3-for-4 with a double and a run, reaching 1,500 career hits in Wednesday's 3-2 win against the Orioles.

Advice: Turner scored after doubling in the second inning, and he singled in his next at-bat for the 1,500th hit of his major-league career. The veteran has posted a modest .225/.307/.354 slash line through 202 plate appearances in his first campaign with Toronto, though he's maintained his usual solid contact skills with a 16.3 percent strikeout rate. Turner has added four homers, 20 RBI, 19 runs and a 10.1 percent walk rate. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:47 pm

  • Provides insurance with homer
Arenado went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Wednesday's 4-2 win over the Astros.

Advice: This was Arenado's third homer in his last seven games, doubling his total to six long balls on the year. He's gone 6-for-28 (.214) in that seven-game span as he continues to put it all together this season. The veteran third baseman is at a .252/.306/.376 slash line with 28 RBI, 23 runs scored, 10 doubles and no stolen bases through 58 contests in 2024, numbers far too similar to the down year he posted in the abbreviated 2020 campaign. • Manny Machado (hip) considered day-to-day
Padres’ manager Mike Shildt told reporters after Wednesday’s loss to the Angels that Manny Machado (hip) is considered day-to-day.

Advice: The superstar third baseman suffered a mild right hip flexor strain while hustling down the first base line to beat out a double play in the fourth inning. It doesn’t sound like he’s going to require any further examination or imaging and there’s optimism that he could return to the Padres’ lineup as early as Thursday. • Homers again Wednesday
Lewis went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's loss to the Yankees.

Advice: Lewis homered in his return from a lengthy absence due to a quad injury Tuesday, and he left the yard again Wednesday in his second game back. The third baseman has played in just three contests this season, but he's maximized his opportunities with a long ball in each of those games. Altogether, he's gone 4-for-7 with the three homers, three RBI and two walks across nine plate appearances. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:06 pm
  • Expected to be fine
Manager Craig Counsell said after Wednesday's game versus the White Sox that he believes Morel will be fine after he fouled a ball off his left foot, Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Advice: Morel had to leave Wednesday's contest because of his foot, and although he never received an X-ray, the Cubs are confident he escaped the incident without any severe damage. There's a chance Morel sits out a game or two in order to recover from any lingering soreness, but a trip to the injured list shouldn't be necessary. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:02 pm

  • Plates two Wednesday
Paredes went 2-for-4 with two RBI doubles and a run during Wednesday's 5-3 win over the Marlins.

Advice: Paredes did his damage early, tagging Braxton Garrett for RBI doubles in the first and third innings Wednesday. With the pair of doubles, Paredes extended his hit streak to seven games. During that stretch, Paredes is batting .310 with eight RBI and five runs scored. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:02 pm

  • Considered day-to-day
Manager Mike Shildt said Wednesday that Machado is day-to-day with a mild right hip flexor strain, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Machado injured his hip while hustling to first base in an effort to beat out a double play ball in the fourth inning. It appears he managed to avoid any significant damage, but it's possible the Padres hold him out of Thursday's series opener against Arizona in order to give his hip a chance to recover. The 31-year-old has gone 8-for-22 with four RBI and two stolen bases across his last seven games. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:28 pm

  • Homer, two steals in win
Candelario went 2-for-5 with a two-run homer and two stolen bases in a 12-7 win over Colorado on Wednesday.

Advice: Candelario got the Reds on the board in the third inning with a two-run blast off Dakota Hudson, his eighth homer of the year and second in three days, before picking up his first two stolen bases of the season later in the contest. It was an impressive road trip for the 30-year-old Candelario, who went 9-for-24 (.375) with three extra-base hits in his last five games. Overall, he's slashing .236/.304/.443 with 25 RBI and 22 runs scored through 224 plate appearances this season. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:44 pm
