Joe Mantiply closes out Reds on Wednesday night
Joe Mantiply picked up his first save of the season on Wednesday night, bailing out Kevin Ginkel to protect a one-run lead against the Reds.
Advice: Paul Sewald had already pitched on Tuesday night, and the Diamondbacks didn’t want to go to him on back-to-back days just yet, so it was Paul Sewald that came on to protect a two-run advantage in the ninth inning. After he allowed a run on a walk and a pair of singles though, manager Torey Lovullo turned to Mantiply to put out the fire with runners at first and third and the lead whittled down to run. He understood the assignment, getting Will Benson on strikes and Jonathan India on a fly ball to right to end it.
