• Undergoes MRI on knee
Topa underwent an MRI on his left knee after feeling soreness following his last rehab appearance with Triple-A St. Paul on Sunday, Bobby Nightengale of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

Advice: Topa was able to throw a bullpen session Wednesday, so it would appear to be a minor setback. However, the reliever is still awaiting results of the MRI before determining the next steps. Topa had been poised to be activated soon before this bump in the road. Rotowire.com 6 minutes ago

  • Alex Lange takes loss in 10th to Guardians
After the Tigers failed to score in the top of the inning, Alex Lange took a loss in the 10th against the Guardians on Wednesday.

Advice: The Tigers really mixed things up relief-wise in this one, turning to Jason Foley for two outs in the seventh and Joey Wentz for four outs through the eighth. Wentz allowed an unearned run, narrowing Detroit’s lead to one, and Andrew Chafin, given a rare chance to close, made that go away by giving up a homer to David Fry. Lange went on to get the final out of the ninth. In the 10th, he got an out on a sac bunt and then gave up the winning single. While Foley remains the favorite for saves in Detroit, it looks like this is going to be a frustrating situation going forward. Rotoworld 20 minutes ago

  • Placed on IL
The Rays placed Pepiot on the 15-day injured list Wednesday with a left lower leg contusion.

Advice: The transaction is retroactive to Monday, so Pepiot could be activated as soon as May 21 if he makes a speedy recovery from the leg injury, which he suffered when he was hit by a line drive in Sunday's 7-6 extra-inning win over the Mets. Taj Bradley (pectoral) was reinstated from the 15-day IL in a corresponding move and will be plugged into Pepiot's spot in the rotation beginning with Friday's game against the Yankees. • Activated prior to Wednesday start
The Red Sox activated Pivetta (elbow) from the 15-day injured list Wednesday.

Advice: Pivetta will rejoin the Red Sox' rotation Wednesday with a start against Atlanta. The right-hander has been sidelined since April 9 with a right elbow flexor strain but was cleared to return after making one rehab start. He went just three innings and threw only 62 pitches in his lone rehab outing, so Pivetta probably won't be stretched out for a full workload Wednesday. Rotowire.com 44 minutes ago

  • Rays place Ryan Pepiot (leg) on 15-day IL
Rays placed RHP Ryan Pepiot on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to May 6, with a left lower leg contusion.

Advice: Taj Bradley was activated from the injured list in a corresponding move and will make his 2024 regular season debut on Friday against the Yankees. Fortunately for fantasy managers, Pepiot should only need a minimum stint on the injured list and should be ready to jump right back into the Rays’ rotation when that time comes. • Back on track with sixth save
Estevez retired all three batters he faced with two strikeouts to earn the save Wednesday against the Pirates.

Advice: The right-hander pitched a scoreless ninth Tuesday in a blowout victory in his first appearance of May, which gives him back-to-back scoreless appearances after he gave up six runs in his previous four outings. Estevez has converted six of eight save chances and has an ugly 5.06 ERA over 10.2 innings this season, but a 0.84 WHIP and 13:0 K:BB are encouraging, and his status as the Angels' closer should be stable for now. • Moves past sore knee
Wilson (knee) has made two relief appearances since exiting early in a 6-4 loss to the Padres on April 30, recording two outs while surrendering four earned runs on four hits and no walks.

Advice: After leaving the April 30 game when he took a line drive off his right knee, Wilson was sent in for X-rays, which revealed no major damage. He went unused for the next couple of days before he was summoned out of the bullpen Friday and Tuesday. He struck out the lone batter he faced in Friday's 3-0 loss to Baltimore, but he was bludgeoned for four hits -- including two home runs -- in Tuesday's 6-2 loss to Arizona. • José Soriano can’t get through five versus Pirates
José Soriano allowed four runs in 4 2/3 innings Wednesday in a no-decision against the Pirates.

Advice: Soriano struck out six and opened up with 4 1/3 scoreless innings before a double snapped a streak of nine straight batters retired. He got one more out immediately afterwards, but he then walked two, gave up a three-run double to Oneil Cruz and an RBI single to Connor Joe, which ended his day. There’s a great deal to like about Soriano’s stuff, but considering that he never worked as a starter above A-ball coming into this season, he’s not at all a finished product. He’ll get more consistent, but since he’s likely to be on a pretty restrictive innings limit, he might not be much of a factor in fantasy leagues until next year. Rotoworld Today, 12:20 pm

  • Carlos Estévez perfect in earning sixth save
Carlos Estévez worked a perfect ninth against the Pirates for his sixth save Wednesday.

Advice: Estévez had given up six runs in his previous five appearances, but he had an easy time today, striking out two of the three batters he faced. This was his second straight day pitching, so he’ll probably need Thursday off. That could create a save chance for Luis García. Rotoworld Today, 12:20 pm
