    David Schneider went 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and a walk against the Phillies on Wednesday.

    Advice: Schneider was in the starting lineup for the ninth time in the last 10 games. That’s quite a change from the start of the year, when he played in just three of the first 10. Also, all six of his starts at second base have come since Apr. 17. The 24-year-old speedster has made the most of his opportunity this season, emerging as Milwaukee’s everyday second baseman, posting an .826 OPS with two homers and 14 steals through 34 contests so far.   • Removed from 40-man roster
    The Red Sox designated Short for assignment Wednesday.

    Advice: Short has been swapped off the 26-man active roster in favor of utility man Romy Gonzalez (wrist), who was reinstated from the 10-day injured list. He'll also lose his spot on the 40-man roster, as Short had no minor-league options remaining and will thus have to be subjected to the waiver process before potentially heading to the Red Sox's top affiliate in Worcester.     Advice: Gonzalez missed nearly a month of action with a left wrist sprain but has been cleared to return after playing three minor-league rehab games. He looks as though he could fall into regular playing time once again, as the Reds placed Christian Encarnacion-Strand (wrist) on the 10-day injured list Wednesday. Jeimer Candelario will move over from his usual spot at third base to cover Encarnacion-Strand's post at first base, opening up the hot corner for Espinal.
