    Webb earned an extra-innings save against the Nationals on Wednesday, allowing an unearned run on one hit while striking out one batter over one inning.

    Advice: Usual Baltimore closer Craig Kimbrel was unsteady again Wednesday, as he was pulled with two outs in the ninth inning after giving up a solo homer and a walk. The game ultimately went into extra frames, and Webb was called upon to shut Washington down after the Orioles took a two-run lead in the top of the 12th. Luis Garcia opened the inning for Washington by doubling home the automatic runner, but Webb was able to bounce back by retiring the next three batters to earn a save. Kimbrel's hold on the closer role could be starting to slip given that he's given up six earned runs over his past five outings covering 2.1 frames, but if he does end up getting demoted at some point, Yennier Cano would likely be the favorite to take over the closer role, so Webb doesn't figure to see more than an occasional unpredictable save chance.     Jordan Hicks allowed three runs with five strikeouts over five innings in a win over the Rockies on Wednesday.

    Advice: After a clean first inning, a triple and a wild pitch brought the first run in to score for the Rockies in the second. Hicks ran into more trouble in the fifth, giving up two runs on four hits and a walk. His day was done after five frames on 92 pitches. He struck out five. The 27-year-old right-hander has enjoyed an early breakout as a starter, posting a 2.30 ERA, 1.12 WHIP, and a 35/16 K/BB ratio across 43 innings.   • Peter Lambert hit for seven runs in loss to Giants
    Peter Lambert allowed seven runs over three innings in a loss to the Giants on Wednesday.

    Advice: Lambert’s outing lasted just three innings as he was hit for seven runs. Six of those runs came in the second, starting with a solo homer by Michael Conforto to lead off the frame. The Giants would bat around the order before Lambert could escape the inning. Two hits in the third would bring in a seventh run.     Advice: Hudson got the first chance at ninth-inning duties after Evan Phillips (hamstring) was placed on the 15-day IL on Sunday and was perfect for his second save of the campaign. Until Phillips returns, the closing job should be Hudson's to lose, though he could have a shorter leash considering he's blown two of his other three save chances this season.     Advice: Suarez advanced to 12-for-12 on save chances this season, putting him in lockstep with Kyle Finnegan for the most saves in baseball.     Advice: In a wild back-and-forth affair, Webb was the one who finally calmed things down and put an end to it in the 12th. He allowed a leadoff double to Luis Garcia Jr. that played the inherited runner, then retired the next three hitters in succession to end it. On the season, Webb now holds a 1.65 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and a 20/5 K/BB ratio over 16 1/3 innings.     Advice: The 35-year-old right-hander has not pitched well since dealing with back soreness, and perhaps the Orioles want to consider a stint on the injured list to sit him down and get him right. Kimbrel came on with a 3-1 lead in the ninth inning of this one and got the first two hitters in order, but then served up a solo homer to Eddie Rosario and then walked a pair of batters before turning the ball over to Keegan Akin who allowed a game-tying RBI single to CJ Abrams.   • Suffers loss Wednesday
    Lange (0-2) allowed an unearned run on one hit to take the loss in Wednesday's 5-4, 10-inning contest against the Guardians.

    Advice: After recording the final out of the ninth inning, Lange had the unenviable task of pitching the bottom of the 10th with a runner starting on second base. The righty retired the first batter but then allowed a walk-off hit to Brayan Rocchio. There shouldn't be too much read into the loss, and Lange has pitched well all season, as he's sitting with a stellar 0.64 ERA across 14 innings.
