• Throwing live batting practice
Pivetta (elbow) will throw a 50-pitch live batting practice session Saturday, Christopher Smith of The Springfield Republican reports.

Advice: If Pivetta comes out the live BP session without any hiccups, he should be cleared to make a rehab start next week. That would probably set him up to rejoin the Red Sox' rotation the following week if all goes well. Pivetta has been out since early April with a right elbow flexor strain. Rotowire.com Just now

  • Hopes to throw in 3-to-7 days
Green (shoulder) hopes to begin throwing in 3-to-7 days, Kaitlyn McGrath of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Green is nearly a week removed from landing on the 15-day injured list with a teres major strain in his right shoulder. He will rehab for a few more days before hopefully starting a throwing program. Green still looks to be multiple weeks away from rejoining the Blue Jays. Rotowire.com 10 minutes ago

  • Removed from 40-man roster
Horn was designated for assignment by the White Sox on Friday, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Advice: Horn has been knocked around this season at Triple-A Charlotte, posting an 11.32 ERA and 15:10 K:BB over 10.1 frames. He was acquired via trade from the Cubs over the offseason. Rotowire.com 27 minutes ago

  • Recalled ahead of opener assignment
The Marlins recalled Maldonado from Triple-A Jacksonville on Friday.

Advice: Maldonado will make his major-league debut Friday with an opener assignment against the Nationals. The 26-year-old has held a 2.31 ERA, 0.77 WHIP and 10:4 K:BB over 11.2 innings with Jacksonville this season. Rotowire.com Today, 12:35 pm

  • Yankees activate Michael Tonkin
    Yankees activated RHP Michael Tonkin.

Advice: The right-hander was claimed by the Yankees from the Mets on Thursday and will join the active roster for this weekend’s series against the Brewers. Tonkin has made six appearances this season, one with the Twins and five with the Mets, and has a 6.00 ERA, 1.56 WHIP with a 11/4 K/BB ratio across nine innings of work. Rotoworld Today, 9:53 am
  • Marlins recall Anthony Maldonado from Triple-A
Marlins recalled RHP Anthony Maldonado from Triple-A Jacksonville.

Advice: Maldonado will make his major league debut as a starter on Friday as Jesús Luzardo is sidelined with elbow discomfort. The 26-year-old reliever has been with the Miami organization since he was drafted in 2019. Last season, he put together an impressive 1.76 ERA, 0.96 WHIP with a 71/21 K/BB ratio across 46 innings at the Triple-A level. Rotoworld Today, 7:47 am

  • Serving as opener Friday
Maldonado will be recalled from Triple-A Jacksonville to serve as the Marlins' opening pitcher for Friday's game against the Nationals.

Advice: Maldonado will be making his major-league debut after posting a 2.31 ERA, 0.77 WHIP and 10:4 K:BB over 11.2 innings with Jacksonville this season. Since Maldonado hasn't covered more than two innings in any of his eight appearances this season, he's unlikely to stay in the game long. Kyle Tyler could be a candidate for the bulk role behind Maldonado. Rotowire.com Today, 7:37 am

  • Struggling to get outs
Chapman (0-2) allowed two earned runs on two hits and no walks while striking out one to take the loss Thursday against the Brewers.

Advice: Chapman entered the game in the eighth inning to protect a one-run lead. He initially ran into some bad luck when a runner reached base on weak contact that didn't leave the infield, but the veteran lefty then threw a wild pitch and served up a home run to Gary Sanchez. Chapman began the season with 5.1 scoreless innings, but he's since allowed six earned runs across his last 2.2 frames and four appearances. Rotowire.com Today, 7:26 am
  • Activated from restricted list
The Marlins reinstated Brazoban (personal) from the restricted list Thursday.

Advice: Brazoban landed on the restricted list prior to Opening Day due to visa issues, which have evidently been resolved. Though he's now back on the Marlins' 40-man roster, it's unclear when the reliever might be ready to join the 26-man active roster. Since he missed all of spring training, Brazoban will presumably need to make several appearances in the minors before being an option for the big-league bullpen. Rotowire.com Today, 7:14 am
