• Mike Trout undergoes successful knee surgery
Mike Trout underwent successful surgery on Friday to repair the meniscus tear in his left knee.

Advice: Officially, Trout underwent a partial medial meniscectomy. While there’s still no official timetable for his return, the Angels remain optimistic that he’ll be able to return to the lineup at some point during the 2024 season. Unfortunately, that leaves fantasy managers in leagues without injured list spots having to carry a zero on the bench for an indefinite amount of time, or risk the pain of throwing him back into the free agent pool and not being able to reacquire him when/if he does return. • Craig Kimbrel (back) ready to resume closer’s role
Orioles’ manager Brandon Hyde told reporters on Friday that Craig Kimbrel (back) is ready to return to the team’s closer role.

Advice: He may have gotten there sooner if the Orioles had a save chance arise over the past couple of days, but it sounds like the 35-year-old hurler is ready to rock for the weekend. Any usefulness that Yennier Cano may have had from a fantasy perspective is now gone in most mixed leagues. Rotoworld 14 minutes ago
  • Slated for mound work
Whitlock (oblique) will throw a bullpen session Saturday, Christopher Smith of The Springfield Republican reports.

Advice: Saturday will mark the first time Whitlock has thrown off a mound since landing on the injured list April 17 with a strained left oblique. Assuming all goes well, he will likely throw another few sessions before moving onto throwing against live hitters, at which point the Red Sox may decide to send the right-hander out on a rehab assignment. • Won't make another rehab start
Manager Alex Cora said Friday that Pivetta (elbow) does not need to make another rehab start, Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reports.

Advice: Pivetta surrendered four runs over three-plus innings during his lone rehab start at Triple-A Worcester on Thursday. Despite his subpar performance, the Red Sox will waste no time returning the 31-year-old right-hander to their rotation, which has already been hit hard by injuries this season. Pivetta has given up one earned run across 11 innings through two starts this year, and he appears in line to make his return in Atlanta on Tuesday or Wednesday. Rotowire.com 28 minutes ago

  • Garrett Whitlock to throw bullpen on Saturday
Garrett Whitlock (oblique) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Saturday.

Advice: The fact that the 27-year-old hurler has been cleared for mound work is obviously an encouraging development. If all goes well with Saturday’s session, we should get a clearer picture on a plan for when the Red Sox anticipate him being able to return. Rotoworld 32 minutes ago

  • Ends skid vs. Cubs
Ross did not factor into the decision Friday against the Cubs, allowing one run on six hits over six innings. He struck out four.

Advice: Ross was solid Friday, holding Chicago off the board until a Christopher Morel solo home run with two outs in the sixth inning. While Ross ultimately came away with a no-decision, he was able to stem a three-start losing streak -- he'd allowed 16 runs (13 earned) over 15 innings in that span. Overall, Ross is 1-3 with a 4.65 ERA, 1,55 WHIP and 27:12 K:BB through six starts (31 innings) this season. He's currently scheduled for a road matchup with Kansas City in his next outing. • Cardinals taking things slow with Tommy Edman
Cardinals’ manager Oli Marmol said Friday that the team continues to proceed cautiously with Tommy Edman (wrist).

Advice: The 28-year-old has been hitting off of a tee from both sides of the plate, but Marmol noted that his progression will continue to be slower than most injured players’ by design. He also said that a minor league rehab assignment is not imminent. Expect the Cardinals to continue to build him up slowly with no clear timetable on when he could be ready to make his 2024 season debut. Rotoworld 37 minutes ago

  • Battling back tightness
Mendick was scratched from the White Sox's lineup for Friday's game against St. Louis due to lower-back tightness, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.

Advice: The severity of Mendick's injury remains unknown, but it is apparently enough to prevent him from starting Friday's contest. Braden Shewmake will serve as Chicago's replacement third baseman while batting ninth. Rotowire.com 38 minutes ago

  • Royce Lewis (quad) increases baseball activities
Twins’ manager Rocco Baldelli told reporters on Friday that Royce Lewis (quad) has been progressing nicely in his recovery and has increased baseball activities in recent days.

Advice: He’s now entering the fifth week of his recovery from a severe right quad strain and is tracking towards meeting that initial eight-week estimate that he was given when he sustained the injury. The dynamic 24-year-old infielder could rejoin the Twins’ lineup before the month of May concludes if he continues to avoid any setbacks. Rotoworld 39 minutes ago
