    • Yields three runs in no-decision
      Cease did not factor into the decision in Friday's 11-8 win over the Royals, allowing three runs on five hits and one walk over 5.1 innings. He struck out five.

      Advice: Despite generating 16 whiffs out of his 98 total pitches, Cease managed to strike out only five, tying a season-low also reached on May 20 against Atlanta and April 27 against Philadelphia. The Padres ace was cruising through five innings, allowing just two baserunners; however, he unraveled in a 25-pitch sixth inning, allowing four baserunners and departing with just one out. Cease's ERA stands at 3.42 with 87:21 K:BB in 71 innings this season. He is tentatively slated to face the Angels on the road in his next start. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:14 pm
       
    • Dylan Cease surrenders three runs to Royals
      Dylan Cease allowed three runs over 5 1/3 innings in a no-decision against the Royals on Friday.

      Advice: Cease was pretty great to begin the year, posting a 2.19 ERA in his first eight starts, but this makes four straight outings that have missed the quality-start threshold. On the plus side, his peripherals have remained pretty strong during the downturn. There isn’t much reason to think this will last. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:00 pm
       
    • James McArthur gives up four runs in blowing save
      James McArthur gave up four runs without retiring a batter in the eighth to take a blown save Friday against the Padres.

      Advice: Josh Schreiber, McArthur and Will Klein combined to give up nine runs in the eighth after the Royals entered the inning with a 3-2 lead. The good news for McArthur was that Schreiber, the Royals’ best alternative in the closer’s role, was pretty much equally ineffective tonight. Schrieber still has a big ERA lead on McArthur (3.00 to 5.32) and McArthur is up to four blown saves, so a change might be considered. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:00 pm
       
    • Astros don’t provide update on Cristian Javier
      Astros’ manager Joe Espada did not give an update on right-handers Cristian Javier and Jose Urquidy on Friday, aside from saying that he’s giving both pitchers space while they are awaiting second opinions.

      Advice: If that’s not discouraging enough, Espada also refused to comment when asked if the pitchers’ UCL’s were intact. Lovely. The Astros should provide full updates on the status of both hurlers in the coming days once they get their second opinions, but it doesn’t sound good. Rotoworld Yesterday, 2:16 pm
       
    • Cruises to win No. 5
      Burnes (5-2) earned the win over Boston on Wednesday, allowing an unearned run on three hits and three walks while striking out five batters over seven innings.

      Advice: Burnes was splendid in the outing, yielding no extra-base hits and allowing zero earned runs for the second time in his past three starts. The right-hander's five strikeouts were mildly disappointing, but he did have his swing-and-miss stuff working with 16 whiffs in the contest. Burnes has completed at least six frames in seven straight starts and is tied for second in the league with nine quality starts on the campaign. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 9:22 pm
       
    • Corbin Burnes defeats Red Sox to improve to 5-2
      Corbin Burnes picked up his fifth victory of the season on Wednesday night, limiting the Red Sox to just one unearned run on three hits over seven strong frames.

      Advice: Burnes racked up five strikeouts on the night while issuing two free passes. The lone tally against him came via a one-out single, throwing error, errant pickoff throw and ground ball combination in the second inning. The 29-year-old hurler got 16 swings and misses on 108 pitches on the night, posting a CSW of 28 percent. He’ll attempt to keep the good times rolling when he toes the slab against the Blue Jays in Toronto on Tuesday. Rotoworld Wednesday, 7:12 pm
       
    • Blanks Marlins through seven
      Waldron (3-5) got the win Tuesday over the Marlins after tossing seven shutout frames while allowing six hits and walking none. He struck out eight.

      Advice: Waldron put together arguably his best outing of the season in a dominant win over the Marlins. He reached seven innings for the first time all year and managed to not walk a batter for just the second time this season. He reportedly used his knuckleball 55 percent of the time Tuesday night and generated 11 of his 15 whiffs with the pitch. He has 31 strikeouts over his last four starts (23 innings) after totaling just 29 strikeouts over his first seven starts of the year (34 innings). Waldron is now down to a 4.26 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 60:19 K:BB in 57 innings and lines up to face the Angels to begin next week. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 7:35 am
       
    • Let down by defense Tuesday
      Littell (2-3) took the loss Tuesday as the Rays fell 3-0 to the A's, allowing three unearned runs on five hits and a walk over seven innings. He struck out nine.

      Advice: The right-hander set a new career high in strikeouts, generating 30 called or swinging strikes among his 95 pitches, but a Brandon Lowe error helped prolong the sixth inning and set the stage for a three-run homer by Miguel Andujar. Littell had to settle for his fourth quality start of the year, and he'll take a 3.03 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 64:10 K:BB through 62.1 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come on the road this weekend in Baltimore.     • Matt Waldron knuckles his way to third win
      Matt Waldron struck out eight over seven innings Tuesday in the Padres’ 4-0 shutout of the Marlins.

      Advice: He moved to 3-5 with a 4.26 ERA. Waldron threw his knuckleball 27% of the time last season and was at 36% percent this season coming into the night. Against the Marlins, though, he used it a career-high 55% of the time and induced 11 of his 15 missed swings on the night. We’re still not overly impressed by the pitch, but the league is awfully unfamiliar at dealing with knuckleballs these days. He’s probably better off continuing to focus on it, especially since the rest of his arsenal is pretty unremarkable. Rotoworld Tuesday, 9:13 pm
