Pivetta (2-3) took a loss Saturday against the Brewers, yielding five runs on seven hits and three walks over just 3.1 innings. He notched three strikeouts.

Advice: Pivetta struck out two in a 1-2-3 first inning, but it was a struggle after that. He managed to escape a bases-loaded situation in the second inning, but in the third the Brewers had six straight runners reach base (five via hits) with two outs and scored five runs. Pivetta has now had two great outings but also two duds since coming back from the injured list. If there's a positive to take away from this one it's that he didn't give up a home run after he surrendered six in his prior three starts. Rotowire.com Saturday, 7:15 pm

    • Pivetta struggles over 3 1/3 in loss to Brewers
Nick Pivetta surrendered five runs while working 3 1/3 innings in a loss Saturday to the Brewers.

Advice: Pivetta was outstanding while allowing just one hit and one run against the Cardinals on Sunday. He didn’t match that success Saturday. The right-hander allowed seven hits, and he also issued three walks in a start where Pivetta was fine over the first two frames, but gave up five in a disastrous third inning. He’ll get a chance to rebound against the Tigers next week, assuming no changes to the order of the rotation. Rotoworld Saturday, 4:02 pm

    • Stumbles against Brewers
Crawford (2-3) took the loss Friday, coughing up six runs on seven hits and two walks over 4.1 innings as the Red Sox fell 7-2 to the Brewers. He struck out four.

Advice: It was the worst performance of the season for the right-hander, who failed to complete five innings for the first time since April 5 and got tagged for more than three earned runs for just the second time in 11 starts. Crawford will take a 2.89 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 61:20 K:BB through 62.1 innings into his next outing, which is scheduled to come on the road next week in Baltimore. Rotowire.com Saturday, 6:10 am

    • Kutter Crawford surrenders six runs in defeat
Kutter Crawford lasted only 4 1/3 innings and gave up six runs Friday in a loss to the Brewers.

Advice: Crawford allowed only five hard-hit balls on the night, but he couldn’t stop the bleeding in either the third or the fifth, giving up three runs each inning. After opening up with a 0.66 ERA in his first five starts, Crawford has come in at 4.64 in his last six outings. He’ll pitch in Baltimore next time out, making him a mediocre play in mixed leagues. • Fares well in start
Brown allowed one hit and two walks while striking out six over four scoreless innings in a no-decision versus Atlanta on Thursday.

Advice: Brown did a fine job, throwing 42 of 66 pitches for strikes while working on three days' rest. He's started five of his 12 appearances this season and now has a 3.20 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 45:15 K:BB over 39.1 innings. Kyle Hendricks' struggles opened up this chance for Brown to start, but he could find himself back in the bullpen once Jordan Wicks (forearm) is cleared to return. In any case, Brown appears to be near the top of the list for the Cubs whenever they have an opening in the rotation to fill. Rotowire.com Thursday, 6:44 pm

    • Collects 14th save
Suarez walked one and struck out one in a scoreless and hitless inning to earn the save in Thursday's 6-4 extra-inning win over the Reds.

Advice: Suarez had no trouble locking down the save in the 10th inning after the Padres pulled ahead. The right-hander has still allowed just one run all season, and that was March 28 versus the Giants. His scoreless streak is at 20 innings, and he has a 0.40 ERA, 0.67 WHIP and 21:5 K:BB over 22.1 innings with 14 saves and one hold on the year as one of baseball's top closers. • Ben Brown tosses four scoreless frames vs. Braves
Ben Brown tossed four shutout innings on Thursday in a no-decision against the Braves.

Advice: Brown took the ball on Thursday afternoon at Wrigley Field for a spot start in place of veteran Kyle Hendricks and finished with six strikeouts over four scoreless frames. The 24-year-old righty allowed just one hit and a pair of walks as he induced 10 swinging strikes, with nine of them coming on his curveball, and finished with a pedestrian 27 percent CSW. He’s pitched extremely well this season with a 3.20 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 45/15 K/BB ratio across 39 1/3 innings (12 appearances, five starts). He’ll presumably take the ball on Tuesday against the division-rival Brewers and is worthy of a speculative roster spot in deeper mixed leagues. Rotoworld Thursday, 2:40 pm

    • Robert Suarez nails down 14th save against Reds
Robert Suarez fired a scoreless 10th to pick up a save against the Reds on Thursday.

Advice: That’s already the 14th save of the season for Suarez; putting him at right around a 40-save pace at this stage of the season. The right-hander hasn’t just helped in that category, as the scoreless 10th puts his ERA at a sparkling 0.40 for the 2024 campaign. There were question marks about Suarez being a stopper for the Padres coming into the season. Over the first 50-plus games, that question has been answered rather emphatically. • Drawing start Thursday
Cubs manager Craig Counsell said that Brown will start Thursday's game against Atlanta at Wrigley Field, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Brown will pick up his fifth start of the season, filling the spot in the rotation that belonged to Kyle Hendricks before the veteran right-hander was moved to the bullpen earlier this week. Because he hasn't started since May 2 and will be pitching on three days' rest after covering two frames in relief Sunday, Brown may not be asked to give the Cubs more than three or four innings as he re-enters the rotation. Hendricks hasn't been used since his last start Friday and could be called upon to piggyback Brown, but Counsell hasn't outlined his plans for when Brown exits the contest. Brown may not be in line for a lengthy stay in the rotation, as the Cubs could get Jordan Wicks (forearm) back from the injured list next week to take over as their No. 5 starter.
