• Moves up to leadoff without Betts
Ohtani will start at designated hitter and bat leadoff in Monday's game in Colorado.

Advice: In the Dodgers' first game without Mookie Betts (hand), Ohtani slides up one spot and will be followed by Will Smith, who moves from cleanup to the two hole. Ohtani also hit leadoff once back on May 18 when Betts had a day off. It's the only two times this season he hasn't hit second. Rotowire.com 19 minutes ago

  • Undergoes internal brace procedure
Wells (elbow) underwent a UCL revision and internal brace augmentation surgery Monday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

Advice: Wells avoided the second Tommy John surgery of his career, after he previously had the procedure in May 2019. However, while the internal brace procedure typically entails a shorter recovery timeline than Tommy John surgery, Wells will still miss the remainder of the 2024 campaign, and likely a few months of the 2025 season. • Tyler Wells undergoes season-ending elbow surgery
Tyler Wells had successful right elbow revision ulnar collateral ligament surgery with UCL repair and internal brace augmentation on Monday.

Advice: The internal brace gives him a better chance of returning next summer, but a 2026 return still might be the most likely scenario here. The Orioles figure to pay the $2 million or so necessary to keep him around next year in the hopes that it will pay off down the road. Rotoworld 37 minutes ago

  • Could start Friday
Blue Jays manager John Schneider confirmed that Rodriguez (back) has returned to Toronto and could be reinstated from the 15-day injured list to start Friday in Cleveland, Kaitlyn McGrath of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Rodriguez wrapped up his six-start rehab assignment at Triple-A Buffalo on Sunday, when he struck out seven while allowing two runs on three hits and three walks over three innings. He tossed 79 pitches in the outing and should be built up enough to handle a traditional starter's workload, if the Blue Jays want to give it to him. Before Rodriguez landed on the IL on April 30 with thoracic spine inflammation, the Blue Jays had been managing his usage carefully, as he worked between three and four innings in each of his four starts. Should Toronto elect to manage Rodriguez's workload again if he starts Friday, he could be deployed as part of a tandem with Bowden Francis, who had most recently served as a bulk reliever when the No. 5 spot in the rotation came up. • Yariel Rodríguez likely to make weekend start
Yariel Rodríguez, on the IL with thoracic spine inflammation, has joined the Blue Jays and could start this weekend versus the Guardians.

Advice: The Jays considered starting Rodríguez last weekend, but they had him pitch in Triple-A instead and he allowed two runs over three innings, striking out seven in the process. His six rehab starts for Buffalo covered a total of 14 innings in which he walked 10 and struck out 23. He might be able to help the Jays, but unless they use an opener in front of him, it’s hard to see how he’d be any sort of candidate for wins. Rotoworld Today, 1:20 pm

  • Daulton Jefferies back up with Pirates
Pirates recalled RHP Daulton Jeffries from Triple-A Indianapolis

Advice: Jefferies had poor results in two starts for the Giants this season and was traded to the Pirates back on May 10th. In five starts for the Pirates in Triple-A, he has a 6.10 ERA and 1.74 WHIP. He doesn’t figure to be used as a traditional starter for the Pirates and should remain off fantasy radars. Justin Bruihl was sent down in a corresponding move. Rotoworld Today, 12:46 pm
  • Back in big leagues
The Pirates recalled Jefferies from Triple-A Indianapolis on Monday, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports.

Advice: Jefferies has been bludgeoned for 13 runs (nine earned) over 4.2 innings covering one start and one relief appearance with the Pirates this season. He's headed to the bullpen, where he will provide length. Rotowire.com Today, 12:33 pm
  • Resumes throwing
The Marlins announced Tuesday that Sanchez (shoulder) is asymptomatic while throwing and rehabbing at the team's extended spring training facility in Jupiter, Fla., MLB.com reports.

Advice: Sanchez was placed on the 15-day injured list June 2, with the Marlins deactivating him two days after he saw a significant dip in velocity in his May 31 start versus the Rangers. While it's encouraging that Sanchez didn't face an extended shutdown from throwing, the Marlins will likely proceed slowly with the right-hander, who has previously underwent two surgeries on his shoulder. The Marlins may not have a spot in the rotation available for Sanchez if Edward Cabrera (shoulder) and Ryan Weathers (finger) beat him back from the IL. Rotowire.com Today, 12:09 pm

  • Completes rehab outing
Hoeing (hamstring) struck out two and allowed one hit and no walks over two scoreless innings in a rehab appearance Friday with Single-A Jupiter.

Advice: According to MLB.com, the right-hander is expected to make another rehab appearance for Jupiter on Tuesday or Wednesday. After that, the Marlins could either activate him from the 15-day injured list or have him continue his minor-league assignment with a higher-level affiliate. Hoeing has been on the shelf since May 3 with a left hamstring strain and then felt renewed tightness when he first began a rehab assignment at Triple-A Jacksonville on May 21.
