    Scott (0-2) took the loss Friday as the Mets fell 8-0 to the Marlins, giving up four runs on seven hits and a walk over four innings. He struck out three.

    Advice: All the damage off the rookie right-hander came in the second inning, with a three-run homer by light-hitting catcher Nick Fortes accounting for most of it. Scott left the mound after throwing 84 pitches (55 strikes), and after a strong big-league debut against the Rays, he's run into trouble against NL East foes. The 24-year-old will stick in the rotation for now, but if his struggles begin to mount, it wouldn't be a surprise if the Mets sent him back to Triple-A.   • Fades late against Tampa Bay
    Bassitt (3-6) took the loss Friday, giving up three runs on five hits and three walks over 5.2 innings as the Blue Jays were downed 4-3 by the Rays. He struck out five.

    Advice: The veteran right-hander blanked Tampa Bay for five innings, but the wheels came off in the sixth as an Isaac Paredes walk was sandwiched between a Randy Arozarena double and a Richie Palacios homer. Bassitt left the game after 103 pitches (65 strikes) falling short of his third straight quality start. While he's been pitching a little better in May, he'll take a 5.03 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 45:23 K:BB through 48.1 innings on the season into his next outing, which lines up to come at home next week against the White Sox.   • Teases perfect game Friday
    Alexander (2-2) picked up the win Friday, giving up three runs on three hits over 7.1 innings in a 4-3 victory over the Blue Jays. He struck out four.

    Advice: His final line doesn't look quite so impressive, but the left-hander was perfect through seven innings before a Danny Jansen bloop single with one out in the eighth started a Toronto rally that chased Alexander from the game, and he had to settle for his second quality start of the season. He's now worked at least seven innings in back-to-back starts, although Alexander got tagged for six runs by the Yankees his last time out. He'll carry a 5.17 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 37:12 K:BB through 47 innings into his next appearance, but despite the length he's provided of late, it's not clear if Alexander will remain in the rotation when Ryan Pepiot (lower leg) returns.   • Sharp in second win
    Cortes (2-4) picked up the win in Friday's 4-2 victory over the White Sox, allowing one unearned run on five hits and a walk over seven innings. He struck out six.

    Advice: An error by Oswaldo Cabrera in the third inning led to the only damage off Cortes, who tossed 63 of 93 pitches for strikes in his fifth quality start of the season. The southpaw has been effective when he's been able to keep the ball in the park, but he's served up multiple homers in three of his last seven outings, stumbling to a 6.06 ERA in those starts but not giving up an earned run in the other four. Cortes will take an overall 3.56 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 57:12 K:BB through 60.2 innings into his next trip to the mound, which is scheduled to come at home next week against the Mariners.   • Strikes out eight in rehab start
    Peterson (hip) struck out eight over 5.1 scoreless innings in his latest rehab start Tuesday for Double-A Binghamton. He scattered five hits and didn't walk a batter.

    Advice: Peterson opened the season on the 60-day injured list while he completed his recovery from Nov. 6 surgery to address a torn labrum in his left hip, but the southpaw looks on pace to be activated on or around when he's first eligible May 27. He tossed 70 pitches (53 strikes) in Tuesday's outing, his first with Binghamton and the fourth outing overall of his rehab assignment. Peterson will likely shift his rehab assignment to Triple-A Syracuse and should require just one or two more tune-up starts before making his way back from the IL. The Mets have a full rotation at the moment, so Peterson -- who has a minor-league option remaining -- could end up sticking around with Syracuse upon his activation. Rotowire.com 32 minutes ago

  • Returning to rotation Monday
    Megill (shoulder) is scheduled to return from the 15-day injured list to start Monday's series opener versus the Guardians in Cleveland, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports.

    Advice: After exiting in his season debut with March 31 with a right shoulder strain and landing on the IL, Megill is finally ready to make his second start with the Mets nearly seven weeks later. According to Puma, Megill said the injury was caused by the lower arm slot he used on his curveball, but the right-hander reported no issues with throwing his breaking pitches during his four-start minor-league rehab assignment. Megill most recently tossed 5.1 shutout innings and 74 pitches in his final rehab start for Triple-A Syracuse on May 12, so he's not expected to be under any major workload restrictions as he steps back into the big-league rotation. Clevinger offers little fantasy appeal until he at least begins lasting long enough to qualify for a win, although the White Sox's struggling offense won't give him many opportunities for one.     Brown (1-4) yielded four runs on four hits and three walks over five innings Friday, striking out five and earning a win over the Brewers.

    Advice: Brown moved back into Houston's rotation for his first start since May 5 and notched his first win of 2024. He coughed up a solo homer to Jake Bauers in the second inning before Joey Ortiz slugged a three-run shot in the fourth. Brown has walked at least three batters in four of his eight starts and now owns a 41:21 K:BB through 37.1 innings. He'll carry a 7.71 ERA into his next appearance, which is currently lined up to be at home against the Angels.     Peralta (3-2) allowed five runs on eight hits and a walk over five innings Friday, striking out six and taking a loss against Houston.

    Advice: All five runs against Peralta came on Houston home runs; Jake Meyers knocked a two-run shot in the second inning followed by Jeremy Pena's three-run blast in the fifth. Peralta forced 13 whiffs -- including seven with his slider -- and has generated double-digit swinging strikes in each of his nine starts this season. After beginning the year with a 1.90 ERA through 23.2 frames, he's posted an ugly 6.23 ERA over his last five outings. Peralta's next start is lined up to be in Miami next week.
