    • Kerry Carpenter says back is improving with rest
Kerry Carpenter, who has been resting for two weeks after being diagnosed with a lumbar spine fracture, said his back is starting to feel better.

Advice: The Tigers haven’t provided any timetable for Carpenter’s return, but Carpenter said he was told he’d need three and a half to four weeks of total rest before resuming baseball activities. He’s a bit more than halfway there now. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:54 am

    • Goes deep in loss
Greene went 2-for-5 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 7-5 loss to the Nationals.

Advice: Greene is starting to get going at the plate, as he's now batting .275 in June with two home runs, seven RBI and eight runs scored across 10 games. The young outfielder has pushed himself up to 12 long balls on the season, and if he stays hot the rest of the month, his counting stats could trend upward quickly. • TJ Friedl scores run as Reds top Guardians
TJ Friedl singled and scored a run as the Reds triumphed over the Guardians on Wednesday evening in Cincinnati.

Advice: Friedl singled off of Tanner Bibee in the sixth inning, then rode home on Jeimer Candelario’s go-ahead three-run homer. That would be the 28-year-old outfielder’s only hit in four at-bats on the day. He has been having a rough time at the plate in-between stints on the injured list this season, slashing a mere .221/.338/.382 with three homers, 13 RBI and five stolen bases in his first 19 games. • Jesse Winker has two hits as Nationals top Tigers
Jesse Winker singled twice, drew a pair of walks, drove in a run and scored a run as the Nationals triumphed over the Tigers on Wednesday evening at Comerica Park.

Advice: The 30-year-old outfielder delivered an RBI single in the fifth inning that extended the Nationals’ lead to 4-1. He then scored on a throwing error by Carson Kelly as Luis Garcia stole second base. He has had a resurgent season in the middle of the Nationals’ lineup, hitting .262/.380/.393 with six homers, 30 RBI and 11 stolen bases. Rotoworld Wednesday, 6:40 pm

    • Yordan Alvarez swats 14th homer in loss to Giants
Yordan Alvarez went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer on Wednesday in the Astros’ loss to the Giants.

Advice: Alvarez took Giants ace Logan Webb deep with a monstrous 405-foot blast to center field in the sixth inning. He also had a 414-foot double in the fourth inning that would’ve been a homer in virtually every other ballpark besides Oracle Park. The 26-year-old fantasy superstar has caught fire over the last few weeks, batting .390 (23-for-59) with five homers over his last 15 games. He’s also chipped in a pair of stolen bases during that span as well, just for good measure. Rotoworld Wednesday, 3:21 pm

    • Triples, drives in three Tuesday
Greene went 1-for-5 with a triple, a run scored and three RBI in Tuesday's 5-4, extra-inning loss to the Nationals.

Advice: Greene's triple came with the bases loaded in the bottom of the fifth inning, pushing his season RBI total to 28. The young outfielder is still batting just .242 after hitting .288 in 2023, but his .793 OPS is in line with last year's .796 mark. Greene is a dynamic talent, and if he can push his average up even a little bit, he should be able to have a sizable fantasy impact the rest of the way. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 7:13 pm

    • Riley Greene plates three in loss to Nationals
Riley Greene went 1-for-5 with three RBI on Tuesday in the Tigers’ extra-inning loss to the Nationals.

Advice: Greene put the Tigers ahead in the fifth inning with a bases-clearing triple to right field and wound up scoring on the play thanks to a throwing error from Nationals second baseman Luis Garcia Jr. It wound up being his lone hit in five at-bats of an eventual extra-inning loss for Detroit. • Juan Soto back in right field Tuesday vs. Royals
Juan Soto is back in right field for Tuesday’s game against the Royals.

Advice: Soto is back patrolling right field for the first time since leaving last Thursday’s game against the Twins with left forearm discomfort. Clearly, the Yankees aren’t too concerned about the issue moving forward if he’s already back out there in the outfield after missing just a handful of contests to undergo further testing. • Taking on-field BP
Edman (wrist) will take batting practice on the field at Busch Stadium on Tuesday, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Advice: The switch-hitting Edman was recently cleared to hit from both sides of the plate and will now progress to taking on-field BP for the first time since last October's right wrist surgery. Edman's progress from the operation has been slow and involved numerous starts and stops, but he's been trending in a positive direction for the last few weeks and he might not be far off from a rehab assignment.
