• Trevor Rogers tames Tigers to collect first win
Trevor Rogers spun five scoreless innings on Wednesday in a win over the Tigers.

Advice: Rogers rebounded nicely on Wednesday afternoon at pitcher-friendly Comerica Park, limiting Detroit’s upstart lineup to just three hits and a pair of walks over five frames, after being demolished for five runs over 3 1/3 innings his last time out against the Phillies. The 26-year-old southpaw hasn’t come close to re-discovering the form that made him a breakout sensation during the 2021 campaign, but this outing certainly represents a step in the right direction. His six strikeouts were his highest single-start total since April 17. He’ll bring a bloated 5.79 ERA, 1.76 WHIP and 37/19 K/BB ratio across 42 innings (nine starts) into a home outing on Tuesday against the red-hot Brewers. Rotoworld 26 minutes ago

  • Casey Mize strikes out six in loss to Marlins
Casey Mize surrendered two runs over six innings on Wednesday in a loss to the Marlins.

Advice: Mize served up a two-run homer to Bryan De La Cruz in the opening frame, which wound up being enough to saddle him with a loss in this one as Detroit’s offense was shut out by Trevor Rogers and a quartet of Miami relievers. He struck out six and only handed out one free pass. The 27-year-old former top prospect will bring a strong 3.50 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 32/10 K/BB ratio across 43 2/3 innings (eight starts) into a favorable road matchup on Tuesday agains the Royals. • Robert Gasser silences Pirates to net second win
Robert Gasser allowed one run over five innings on Wednesday in a win over the Pirates.

Advice: Gasser got plenty of support from Milwaukee’s offense, which wound up tagging opposing starter Martín Pérez for nine runs over five frames to open the contest, enabling Gasser to cruise to a relatively easy win in his second big league outing. He finished with two strikeouts and only issued one walk. The 24-year-old southpaw wasn’t overpowering, as evidenced by just eight swinging strikes, but he managed to avoid hard contact in this one, limiting Pittsburgh’s lineup to just six batted balls with an exit velocity in excess of 95 mph. He’ll bring a sparkling 0.82 ERA, 0.82 WHIP and 6/1 K/BB ratio across 11 innings (two starts) into an extremely tasty road matchup on Tuesday against the Marlins. Rotoworld 41 minutes ago

  • Martín Pérez allows five homers in loss to Brewers
Martín Pérez was torched for nine runs over five innings on Wednesday in a loss to the Brewers.

Advice: Yikes. Pérez put together one of the worst outings of his extensive big-league career on Wednesday afternoon in Milwaukee, matching a career-high in terms of runs allowed, while also setting a new career-high mark by allowing five home runs. The 33-year-old left-hander’s ERA skyrocketed from 3.60 entering this one to a bloated 4.86 mark in the process. He’ll attempt to rebound on Tuesday when he faces the injury-depleted Giants at home. • Goes on IL with rotator cuff injury
The Athletics placed Wood (shoulder) on the 15-day injured list Wednesday with left rotator cuff tendinitis.

Advice: The transaction is retroactive to Monday, so Wood will be eligible to come off the IL as soon as May 28. Given Wood's long track record of injuries and history as a slow healer, however, fantasy managers who have been rostering the veteran southpaw should probably prepare for him to miss more than the minimum 15 days. Wood's shoulder issue had been bothering him during his most recent start this past Sunday in Seattle, prompting the Athletics to pull him after just two innings while his fastball velocity was down about two ticks from his season-long average. The Athletics haven't named an immediate replacement in the rotation for Wood, but Kyle Muller tossed four innings in relief of the lefty last Sunday and could be stretched out enough to step into the vacant starting role this weekend in Kansas City. • Sent down to minors
The Athletics optioned Basso to Triple-A Las Vegas on Wednesday.

Advice: Basso was up in the majors for just one day and didn't make an appearance. The left-hander could still be needed in the Athletics rotation at some point given the big club's mounting injury list, but for now he'll report to Las Vegas. Basso was torched for nine earned runs over 2.1 innings in his lone start with Las Vegas this season but has put up a 2.84 ERA and 32:3 K:BB over 25.1 frames with Double-A Midland. • Moves up from Triple-A
The Athletics recalled Harris from Triple-A Las Vegas on Wednesday.

Advice: Harris was optioned to Las Vegas just one week earlier, but he'll be eligible to rejoin Oakland since he'll be taking the active roster spot of Alex Wood (shoulder), who was placed on the 15-day injured list. Wood's injury will create an opening in the rotation this weekend in Kansas City, and if Harris isn't used in relief Wednesday or Thursday in Houston, he could be a candidate to fill the void. Harris has started in all seven of his appearances for Las Vegas this season, logging a 7.56 ERA and 1.92 WHIP over 25 innings in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League. • Athletics recall LHP Hogan Harris from Triple-A
Athletics recalled LHP Hogan Harris from Triple-A Las Vegas.

Advice: Harris has made one appearance for the A’s this season, giving up four runs in 5 1/3 innings of relief. He could make starts with Oakland’s rotation in pieces, but he doesn’t seem like a strong candidate after amassing a 7.56 ERA and walking 23 in 25 innings for Las Vegas. • A’s place Alex Wood on IL due to rotator cuff
Athletics placed LHP Alex Wood on the 15-day injured list with left rotator cuff tendinitis.

Advice: With Wood joining Joy Boyle and Paul Blackburn on the IL, the A’s have lost 60% of their rotation this month. Aaron Brooks is starting for the A’s today. Osvaldo Bido might come up in Wood’s place later this week. Rotoworld 58 minutes ago
