  • Willy Adames reaches three times in win over Angels
    Willy Adames went 1-for-2 with an RBI and two walks in the Brewers’ 2-0 win over the Angels on Wednesday.

    Advice: Adames drew walks in the first and third innings, then gave the Brewers an insurance run in the eighth with a base hit to drive in Christian Yelich from second base.   • Solid in season debut
    Cole did not factor into the decision in Wednesday's 7-6 loss to the Orioles, allowing two runs on three hits and one walk with five strikeouts over four innings.

    Advice: Cole surrendered a run on an RBI double by Ryan O'Hearn in the first inning then settled in over the next three. He allowed a single to Cedric Mullins to open the fifth and was pulled after throwing 62 pitches, but Mullins scored on a home run surrendered by Yankees reliever Ron Marinaccio. Cole maxed out at 68 pitches during his minor-league rehab, so the Yankees appear to be easing him into his return. He touched 97 mph on his fastball and generated six swinging strikes in a solid season debut and will look to build up his workload early next week against the Mets.     Miller gave up five runs on six hits and three walks while striking out two over 6.1 innings in a no-decision versus the Rockies on Wednesday.

    Advice: Miller missed over two months with a shoulder injury, and making his return at Coors Field was always going to be a tough task. He left the game with a lead in the seventh inning, but the Dodgers couldn't stay ahead. The 25-year-old right-hander has a 6.00 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 20:9 K:BB over 18 innings through four starts this season. Miller continues to have plenty of upside as a young pitcher supported by a strong offense, but it may take him a few starts to get fully comfortable again in the majors.   • Bobby Miller surrenders five runs in return
    Bobby Miller allowed five runs with two strikeouts over 6 1/3 innings in a no-decision against the Rockies on Wednesday.

    Advice: Colorado isn’t exactly the best place to make a return off the injured list. He served up a three-run shot to Michael Toglia in the first inning. Miller then gave up one more run in the fourth before pitching into the seventh. He gave up a leadoff double and was replaced on the mound with one out. The inherited runner came in to score.   • Gerrit Cole allows two runs in four-plus innings
    Gerrit Cole lasted for four-plus innings in his return to the Yankees on Wednesday against the Orioles. He struck out five, walked one, and allowed two earned runs in a loss.

    Advice: Cole was not his sharpest, understandably, in this one. The Orioles are a tough matchup and they made lots of loud contact as Cole struggled with command, especially with his knuckle curve.   • Bypassed in save opportunity
    Neris was not used to close out Wednesday's 6-5 win over the Giants, with Colten Brewer getting the save instead.

    Advice: Neris took the loss and blew a save against the Giants on Monday, allowing three runs (two earned) in an inning of work, and he's allowed a total of seven earned runs over his last three outings. The veteran's ERA has climbed to 4.73 as a result of his recent struggles, and he's blown four saves this year in 14 chances. Chicago manager Craig Counsell said following Monday's game that he didn't plan on making a change at closer, according to James Neveau of Yahoo Sports, but this situation could be fluid.     The Dodgers activated Miller (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list ahead of his start Wednesday against the Rockies, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Timesreports.

    Advice: The right-hander has been sidelined by shoulder inflammation since mid-April, but he's ready to rejoin the big-league rotation after a four-start rehab assignment in the minors.     Jesse Winker slugged a go-ahead two-run homer in the sixth inning, powering the Nationals to a 3-1 victory over the Diamondbacks on Wednesday afternoon in Washington D.C.

    Advice: Winker’s game-changing blast came off of Diamondbacks’ right-hander Brandon Pfaadt with two outs in the sixth inning. He got an 0-1 fastball and crushed a 399-foot (101.8 mph EV) two-run shot that plated Lane Thomas as well, giving the Nationals a 2-1 edge. The 30-year-old outfielder finished the day 1-for-3 plus a walk and is now hitting a respectable .271/.383/.410 with seven homers, 33 RBI and a career-high 11 stolen bases on the season.   • Activated ahead of start
    The Yankees reinstated Cole (elbow) from the 60-day injured list Wednesday.

    Advice: Cole has been on the injured list all season due to nerve irritation in his right elbow, but he will now officially return to the Yankees' rotation and make his season debut Wednesday against the Orioles. The 33-year-old righty was dominant during his three rehab starts, posting a minuscule 0.73 ERA while striking out 19 batters and walking none in 12.1 innings. However, he only built up to 68 pitches during his time in the minors, so he will likely be working under some sort of restriction during his return to a big-league mound.
