• Matt Vierling clubs solo homer in loss to Nats
Matt Vierling clubbed a solo home run on Wednesday night, but it wasn’t enough to power the Tigers to victory over the Nationals.

Advice: Vierling connected on a 363-foot (94.6 mph EV) solo shot to lead off the home half of the first inning for the Tigers. He finished the night 1-for-5 with a pair of strikeouts and is now hitting .268/.309/.468 with eight long balls and 27 RBI on the season. Rotoworld Wednesday, 6:40 pm

  • Christopher Morel has two hits, HR in loss
Christopher Morel went 2-for-4 with a solo home runs and two runs scored in a loss to the Rays on Tuesday.

Advice: Morel crushed a 409-foot home run off of Zach Eflin for his 13th home run on the season. Both of his hits were at least 102.7 mph, but he also struck out once in the game, so he showed his full profile. The 24-year-old is hitting just .208 on the year, so even though the power is undeniable, he’ll need to keep producing like this if he wants to remain a fixture in the lineup as the Cubs make a playoff push over the summer. • Pops 13th home run
Morel went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in Tuesday's 5-2 loss to the Rays.

Advice: Morel connected for this third home run of the month and 13th of the season in the fourth inning. The 24-year-old is now halfway to his long ball total from last year through 66 games. Morel only needed 107 contests to record those 26 homers in 2023, but he seems primed to play more games this season if he stays healthy, and that could result in a new career best in the power department. • Vierling on base twice in loss Friday
Matt Vierling went 1-for-3 with a walk against the Brewers on Friday.

Advice: It was a quiet night for the Tigers offense as they were shutout and managed only two hits. Still, Vierling got on base twice out of the leadoff spot. His average is up to .282 with a .794 OPS on the season. Obviously, he’s not going to put up big time run totals given the state of Detroit’s offense, but he’s been a viable option even in mixed leagues so far this season. Rotoworld Friday, 6:41 pm

  • Blasts 12th home run
Morel went 1-for-3 with a walk and a two-run home run in Thursday's 8-4 loss to the Reds.

Advice: Morel can be streaky with his power production, but he appears to be locked in right now, as he has two home runs across his last three games and three in his last seven contests. The surge has pushed him up to 12 long balls for the season. Morel popped 26 home runs last year, and he certainly could reach or surpass that figure in 2024 if he stays healthy. • Morel hits 12th home run in loss Thursday
Christopher Morel went 1-for-3 with a walk and a two-run home run against the Reds on Thursday.

Advice: The home run was Morel’s 12th of the year. He’s hitting just .205 on the season, but his .212 BABIP is well below his career .287 BABIP. His 21 percent strikeout percentage is much improved from his career 29 percent strikeout percentage. Even if he goes back to striking out more, his average should improve over the rest of the season. Rotoworld Thursday, 6:54 pm

  • Christopher Morel in Thursday’s lineup vs. Reds
Christopher Morel (foot) is in the lineup for Thursday’s showdown against the Reds.

Advice: It’s a positive sign that Morel is back in the lineup without missing any time after making an early exit from Wednesday’s contest against the White Sos after fouling a ball off his left foot. The 24-year-old has been a mainstay in the heart of Chicago’s lineup supplying 11 homers and six steals through 61 contests. Rotoworld Thursday, 1:54 pm

  • In Thursday's lineup
Morel (foot) is starting at third base and batting cleanup Thursday against the Reds.

Advice: Morel was taken out of Wednesday's game after fouling a ball off his left foot, but he appears to be feeling well enough to return to the Cubs' lineup without a day off. The 24-year-old has posted just a .203 batting average so far this season, but he has been heating up recently, going 6-for-19 with two homers, three RBI and six runs scored across his last six games. • Expected to be fine
Manager Craig Counsell said after Wednesday's game versus the White Sox that he believes Morel will be fine after he fouled a ball off his left foot, Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Advice: Morel had to leave Wednesday's contest because of his foot, and although he never received an X-ray, the Cubs are confident he escaped the incident without any severe damage. There's a chance Morel sits out a game or two in order to recover from any lingering soreness, but a trip to the injured list shouldn't be necessary. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 10:02 pm
