• Royce Lewis getting a breather on Friday night
Royce Lewis is not in the Twins’ starting lineup for Friday night’s showdown against the Athletics.

Advice: The Twins have been careful to ease the 25-year-old slugger back into action following his return from the injured list, but after starting four straight games they decided it was a good time to give him a breather. Jose Miranda will start in his place at the hot corner and will bat fifth for the Twins against Mitch Spence and the Athletics. Rotoworld 5 minutes ago

  • Joey Gallo to undergo MRI on injured hamstring
Joey Gallo was set to undergo an MRI exam on his injured hamstring on Friday.

Advice: The results of that exam are not yet known. The 30-year-old slugger sustained the injury on Tuesday while he was running out a ground ball in the seventh inning. While the severity of the injury remains unclear, it sounds like the Nationals expect him to be sidelined for a while this time around. Rotoworld 10 minutes ago

  • Not in Friday's lineup
Lewis is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Athletics.

Advice: Lewis is in the midst of a six-game hit streak, during which he's gone 9-for-23 with two homers, but he'll take a seat Friday after making four straight starts. Jose Miranda will step in at the hot corner and bat fifth. Rotowire.com 12 minutes ago

  • Idle Friday, more AB's coming
Singleton is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Tigers but should get most of the at-bats at first base moving forward, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Advice: With Jose Abreu off the roster, Singleton should be the clear-cut option at first base for the Astros, but he'll take a seat Friday with lefty Tarik Skubal on the mound for Detroit. Manager Dana Brown indicated Friday that Houston could look to acquire another first baseman unless Singleton "takes the bull by the horn," but Singleton should take the lion's share of first base work for the time being. Singleton is slashing .213/.316/.333 on the year but is 7-for-37 (.189) against LHP. Mauricio Dubon will play first and bat sixth Friday. Rotowire.com 13 minutes ago
  • Yainer Diaz (finger) returns to action on Friday
Yainer Diaz (finger) returned to the Astros’ starting lineup for Friday’s series opener against the Tigers.

Advice: It’s the first time that the 25-year-old backstop has been in the lineup since he took a foul tip off of his finger during Sunday’s game. He’ll serve as the team’s designated hitter and bat fifth against tough left-hander Tarik Skubal while Victor Caratini does the catching for the Astros and will bat eighth. • Returning to lineup
Diaz (finger) is batting fifth and is the designated hitter for Friday's game against the Tigers.

Advice: Diaz missed three straight games with a right index finger injury, but he'll be back in action Friday. Considering his injury impacts his throwing and accuracy, Diaz could require a few more games at DH before going behind the dish. The 25-year-old had a six-game hit streak prior to being injured with four homers during that stretch. Rotowire.com 23 minutes ago

  • Jon Singleton to see bulk of action at first base
Astros’ general manager Dana Brown told reporters on Friday that Jon Singleton will see the bulk of the action at first base following the release of Jose Abreu.

Advice: Brown also noted that Singleton probably won’t play against most left-handers, in which case Mauricio Dubon would see short-side platoon at-bats there. I don’t know what it’s going to take for Joey Loperfido to get an opportunity to play first base for the Astros, but they seem to be doing everything in their power to avoid putting him there. Singleton is hitting just .213/.316/.333 with five homers and 14 RBI in 174 plate appearances on the season. Rotoworld 28 minutes ago
  • Rehab bumped to Triple-A
Sano (knee) will continue his rehab assignment at Triple-A Salt Lake on Friday.

Advice: Sano suffered a setback in his rehab assignment May 26 after burning himself with a heating pad, but he resumed his minor-league rehab Saturday in the Arizona Complex League. After five ACL games, Sano has joined Triple-A Salt Lake, where he'll likely make a few appearances before being activated from the injured list and rejoining the Angels' active roster. • Absent from lineup
LeMahieu is not in the lineup for Friday's contest in Boston.

Advice: He will yield to Oswaldo Cabrera at third base as the Yankees begin a weekend series against their rivals. LeMahieu has just a .497 OPS and zero extra-base hits in 13 games since coming off the injured list. Rotowire.com Today, 12:21 pm
