• Swipes bag Sunday
Melendez went 2-for-4 with a double and a stolen base in Sunday's 3-2 extra-inning loss to the Rangers.

Advice: This was Melendez's first multi-hit effort since April 19 -- he went 2-for-36 over the previous 12 contests. The 25-year-old started the year hot, batting .325 over his first 12 games, but he's since returned to his career norms. He's slashing a poor .186/.252/.363 with four home runs, two steals, 12 RBI, nine runs scored and six doubles over 111 plate appearances. Despite the poor batting, Melendez is still seeing a majority of the playing time in left field, keeping Nelson Velazquez at designated hitter and Dairon Blanco on the bench. • Jakson Reetz swats first career home run in loss
Jakson Reetz swatted the first home run of his big league career on Sunday night, but it wasn’t enough to power the Giants to victory over the Phillies in Philadelphia.

Advice: The 28-year-old backstop had to take a red-eye flight to make it to Philadelphia in time to provide catching depth for the Giants on Sunday. He then took over for Blake Sabol after Austin Slater batted for him in the seventh inning and got a plate appearance in the ninth. There, he tattooed a 2-1 sinker from Jose Alvarado for a 393-foot (106.5 mph EV) solo shot that pulled the Giants to within a run at 5-4. That would be as close as they would get. Reetz has probably earned himself a start in Monday’s series finale. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:11 pm
  • Lifts second homer
Stallings went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run Sunday against the Pirates.

Advice: Stallings put the Rockies on the board with the second-inning blast against his former club. Despite serving as the second catcher in Colorado, Stallings has been effective on offense when given the opportunity with a hitting streak that's spanned the last seven games he's played in since April 17. He's hit .400 over that stretch with two homers, six RBI and four runs scored, lifting his season average to .351 in the process. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 3:49 pm
  • Contract selected
The Giants selected Reetz's contract from Triple-A Sacramento on Sunday, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Advice: The 28-year-old has a .217/.357/.435 slash line in 15 games for Sacramento this season, and he'll receive a chance in the big leagues with Patrick Bailey (concussion) and Tom Murphy (knee) on the injured list. Reetz should serve as the backup to Blake Sabol. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 2:02 pm
  • Lands on injured list
The Giants placed Murphy on the 10-day injured list with a left knee sprain Sunday, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Advice: Murphy suffered the injury during Saturday's contest and is now on the injured list after an MRI revealed a sprain. Patrick Bailey (concussion) is also unavailable, leaving Blake Sabol and Jakson Reetz, who had his contract selected from Triple-A Sacramento on Sunday, to handle catching duties. • Giants promote Jakson Reetz from Triple-A
Giants selected the contract of C Jakson Reetz from Triple-A Sacramento.

Advice: The Giants’ catching depth has been hit hard over the second half of the week, as Patrick Bailey went down with a concussion and Tom Murphy suffered a left knee sprain on Saturday. That leaves Reetz, 28, to serve as the primary backup behind Blake Sabol for the time being. Reetz had been hitting .217/.357/.435 with a pair of homers, nine RBI and an 11/6 K/BB ratio over his first 57 plate appearances. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:24 pm
  • Giants place Tom Murphy (knee) on 10-day IL
Giants placed C Tom Murphy on the 10-day injured list with a left knee sprain.

Advice: As expected, the 33-year-old backstop lands on the injured list after injuring his left knee during Saturday’s battle against the Phillies. With Patrick Bailey (concussion) also shelved, the Giants will rely on Blake Sabol and Jakson Reetz to handle the load behind the plate for the time being. There’s no clear timetable for how long Murphy may be shelved for. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:22 pm

  • Not in Sunday's lineup
Campusano is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks.
