    • Gerrit Cole allows two runs in four-plus innings
Gerrit Cole lasted for four-plus innings in his return to the Yankees on Wednesday against the Orioles. He struck out five, walked one, and allowed two earned runs in a loss.

Advice: Cole was not his sharpest, understandably, in this one. The Orioles are a tough matchup and they made lots of loud contact as Cole struggled with command, especially with his knuckle curve. The Yankees limited him to just 62 pitches in this one and he’ll have a chance to right the ship next week against the Mets. Rotoworld 9 minutes ago
    • Giancarlo Stanton carries Yankees against Orioles
Giancarlo Stanton went 2-for-4 with a home run, walk, and four RBI against the Orioles on Wednesday.

Advice: Stanton single-handedly brought the Yankees back in this one. First, his three-run home run off Yennier Cano cut the Orioles’ lead to 5-4 and then his ninth inning single off Craig Kimbrel sent this game to extra innings. The homer was his 18th in what’s been a tremendous bounce back season for the aging power hitter. Rotoworld 10 minutes ago
    • Joe Ryan pitches well in no-decision vs. Rays
Joe Ryan was terrific in a no-decision against the Rays on Wednesday evening, surrendering just one run on six hits over his six innings of work.

Advice: The 28-year-old hurler struck out five batters on the night while allowing only one base on balls. The lone tally against him came on a 359-foot solo blast off the bat of Isaac Paredes in the third inning. Ryan generated a whopping 19 swings and misses on 94 pitches in the ballgame — 12 of those on his fastball — while registering a strong CSW of 36 percent. The right-hander will carry a terrific 3.13 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and a 95/15 K/BB ratio (92 innings) into Tuesday’s matchup against the Diamondbacks in Arizona. Rotoworld 28 minutes ago

    • Clayton Kershaw goes three in first rehab start
Clayton Kershaw (shoulder) went three innings in his first minor league rehab start at High-A Rancho Cucamonga on Wednesday night.

Advice: The 36-year-old southpaw threw 36 pitches on the night — 26 of them for strikes — while hitting 90 mph on his fastball. Kershaw surrendered one run on two hits and a walk while punching out five in the ballgame. He’ll continue to work every fifth day or so in the minor leagues to build up his stamina with a goal of rejoining the Dodgers’ rotation at some point around the All-Star break. • Brayan Bello solid over six innings in win
Brayan Bello punched out six Red Sox across six innings on Wednesday in a 7-3 win over the Blue Jays. He walked two and allowed two earned runs on his way to securing the victory.

Advice: Bello showed a great approach in this one: leaning on his sinker and slider against right-handed batters while mixing those two with a heavy dose of changeups against lefties. He kept the ball on the edges and his velocity was up a tick across the board. The Blue Jays have made plenty of pitchers look great this season, but seeing Bello command his nasty arsenal is a welcome sight. Rotoworld Today, 7:13 pm

    • Dealing with wrist issue
Abrams will undergo an MRI on his left wrist after being scratched from Wednesday's lineup against the Diamondbacks, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.

Advice: The 23-year-old had a collision on a stolen-base attempt by Corbin Carroll during Tuesday's contest, though it's unclear if that's when the injury was sustained. Abrams should be considered day-to-day heading into Wednesday's series finale versus Arizona until the results of the MRI are reported. Rotowire.com Today, 3:53 pm

    • Activated ahead of start
The Yankees reinstated Cole (elbow) from the 60-day injured list Wednesday.

Advice: Cole has been on the injured list all season due to nerve irritation in his right elbow, but he will now officially return to the Yankees' rotation and make his season debut Wednesday against the Orioles. The 33-year-old righty was dominant during his three rehab starts, posting a minuscule 0.73 ERA while striking out 19 batters and walking none in 12.1 innings. However, he only built up to 68 pitches during his time in the minors, so he will likely be working under some sort of restriction during his return to a big-league mound. Anthony Rizzo (arm) was transferred to the 60-day IL to make room for Cole on the 40-man roster. Rotowire.com Today, 3:18 pm
    • Yankees activate Gerrit Cole for 2024 season debut
Yankees activated RHP Gerrit Cole from the 60-day injured list.

Advice: The 33-year-old hurler is finally ready to make his highly anticipated 2024 season debut against the Orioles on Wednesday. He looked fantastic in three minor league rehab starts, registering a 0.73 ERA, 0.49 WHIP and a 19/1 K/BB ratio over 12 1/3 innings. As long as he’s healthy and on the mound, there’s little reason to expect anything other than vintage Gerrit Cole on Wednesday. Rotoworld Today, 3:16 pm
    • Sitting Wednesday
Smith isn't in the Dodgers' lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rockies, Juan Toribio of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Smith will get a chance to clear his head Wednesday after going just 1-for-18 at the plate over his last five games. Austin Barnes will take over behind the dish while batting ninth. Rotowire.com Today, 2:07 pm
