    • Builds up to 45 pitches
Cavalli (elbow) threw 45 pitches over the equivalent of 2.2 innings in a live bullpen session Friday at the Nationals' spring training complex at West Palm Beach, Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reports.

Advice: The Nationals are being deliberate with the 25-year-old's recovery from March 2023 Tommy John surgery, but Cavalli is in the home stretch. The team hasn't indicated when he might begin a rehab assignment, but he could join the big-league rotation in late June or early July. Rotowire.com 12 minutes ago

    • Not yet throwing breaking balls
Gray threw 35 pitches Friday in a bullpen session at Fenway Park, all fastballs, Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reports.

Advice: The right-hander has been sidelined since April 4 due to a flexor strain in his elbow. Gray is slowly building up in bullpen sessions, and the Nationals haven't indicated yet when he might begin a rehab assignment, but he'll need to start ramping things up quickly if he's going to return to the big-league rotation before the end of May. • Swipes bag in team debut
Goodrum went 0-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base Friday in a loss to the Royals.

Advice: Goodrum was claimed off waivers from Tampa Bay on Thursday and made his Angels debut one day later, starting at third base and batting fifth in the order. Though he went hitless in his team debut, the utility man drew a walk in his first plate appearance and subsequently stole second base. Goodrum could get regular at-bats given his versatility and Los Angeles' drastically depleted infield. He's struggled to make contact during his career as a major-leaguer but has demonstrated good speed with 47 stolen bases on 61 attempts. Rotowire.com 27 minutes ago
    • Notches hold in return
Burdi completed a perfect one-third of an inning to record a hold in Friday's 2-0 win against Tampa Bay.

Advice: Burdi came off the injured list Friday after missing three weeks due to right hip inflammation. He was called upon in the seventh frame to face Richie Palacios with two outs and a runner on first base, and the right-hander threw three pitches before Isaac Paredes was thrown out attempting to steal to end the inning. Burdi has yet to give up a run over 6.2 frames this season, and he's collected three holds along with a victory across eight outings. Rotowire.com Today, 7:23 am
    • Stays hot Friday
Rosario went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and a stolen base in Friday's 5-1 win over the Red Sox.

Advice: The 32-year-old got the start in left field and continued a sudden hot streak that has seen Rosario rack up eight hits in the last five games with two homers, three steals, four RBI and eight runs. That surge comes on the heels of an 0-for-27 slump though, and on the season he has a .159/.219/.295 slash line. Rosario still has a big hole to climb out of, and with Victor Robles healthy again, the competition for outfield/DH at-bats with the Nats has gotten even more crowded. Rotowire.com Today, 7:16 am
    • Struggles in first loss
Chafin (2-1) allowed three runs on two hits and a walk without recording an out to take the loss Friday against the Astros.

Advice: Chafin came on in the eighth inning with Detroit up 2-1 but he couldn't hold Houston in check and got saddled with his first loss of the season. The lefty has now allowed runs in consecutive appearances, which has pushed his ERA from 1.35 to 3.86. That's closer to the 4.73 ERA Chafin posted with Arizona and Milwaukee last year, though he was better in his last stint with the Tigers back in 2022, when he posted a 2.83 ERA. • Two hits in return to lineup
Robles went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a stolen base in Friday's 5-1 win over the Red Sox.

Advice: Getting the start in right field and batting ninth in his first MLB action in over a month, Robles showed that he was fully recovered from his hamstring injury by stealing his third bag of the season. Jacob Young has grabbed hold of the starting job in center field in Robles' absence however, and with prospects like James Wood banging on the door for a promotion, it's tough to see a path to consistent at-bats for Robles now that he's back. • Provides offense Friday
Vierling went 1-for-4 with a double and two RBI in Friday's 5-2 loss to the Astros.

Advice: Vierling's third-inning double put Detroit up 2-0, but the Tigers stagnated from there. The 27-year-old got the start at third base in this one, which is where he's seen most of his time lately with Gio Urshela (hamstring) on the injured list. Urshela recently began a rehab assignment, however, and his eventual return could push Vierling back to more of a utility role. Rotowire.com Today, 7:11 am

    • Nabs second steal
Berti went 2-for-4 with a stolen base in a 2-0 victory versus the Rays on Friday.

Advice: Berti started at third base and batted out of the No. 9 hole, and he was one of four Yankees with multiple hits in the victory. It was his third start in six games since returning from the injured list May 4, as Oswaldo Cabrera continues to get ample playing time at the hot corner. Berti has hit well since coming off the IL, going 5-for-11 with two runs, an RBI and two stolen bases. Rotowire.com Today, 7:11 am
