    • Starting at DH on Saturday
Grissom will be the designated hitter and bat fifth in Saturday's game against the Nationals, Christopher Smith of The Springfield Republican reports.

Advice: With Grissom shifting to DH on Saturday, David Hamilton will start at second base. Since making his major-league debut May 3, Grissom is 3-for-21 with one double and two RBI. Rotowire.com 12 minutes ago

    • Max Scherzer (thumb) receives cortisone injection
Max Scherzer received a cortisone injection in his right thumb on Wednesday.

Advice: Scherzer underwent additional testing earlier this week that revealed his thumb issue to be nerve-related, not structural. It’s an encouraging development that he’s reportedly experiencing significant improvement following the additional treatment. The 39-year-old righty was able to resume playing catch on Friday without any issues. He’ll presumably need a couple rehab outings before making it back to the Rangers’ starting rotation mix. • Davis Schneider leading off again for Blue Jays
George Springer (illness) remains absent from the lineup for Saturday’s contest against the Twins.

Advice: It’s Davis Schneider in the leadoff spot for the second straight contest with Springer out of the lineup due to a viral illness. Blue Jays manager John Schneider was noncommittal when it came to Springer, who has struggled to a .574 OPS through 35 games, reclaiming the leadoff role once he’s healthy. It’s a significant development for fantasy managers rostering Schneider, who boasts a robust .378 on-base percentage this season in 98 plate appearances. Rotoworld 54 minutes ago

    • Not starting Saturday
Springer (illness) is not in the starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Twins.

Advice: Springer will miss his second straight game due to an illness. Davis Schneider will once again hit in the lead-off spot and start in left field Saturday. Rotowire.com Today, 8:43 am

    • Receives cortisone injection
Scherzer (back) revealed that he received an cortisone injection in his right thumb after undergoing additional tests Wednesday, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Advice: The exam revealed that Scherzer's thumb issue is more nerve-related than skeletal, and the right-hander experienced significant improvement following the injection. Scherzer noted that he passed multiple strength tests that would have indicated a ligament issue, and his rehab plan has changed accordingly. The 39-year-old was on the field Friday playing catch for the first time since having his rehab program delayed due to issues with his right thumb and forearm. Rotowire.com Today, 8:20 am

    • Fans seven in second win
Ryan (2-2) picked up the win Friday, allowing one run on six hits over seven innings in a 3-2 victory over the Blue Jays. He struck out seven without walking a batter.

Advice: A solo shot by Isiah Kiner-Falefa accounted for the only blemish on Ryan's line. The right-hander fired 75 of 104 pitches for strikes in his longest outing of the season, as he produced his fourth straight quality start and sixth of the year. Ryan will take a 3.21 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 53:6 K:BB through 47.2 innings into his next start, which lines up to come at home next week against the Yankees. Rotowire.com Today, 6:34 am

    • Shane Baz walks five on Friday in rehab start
Shane Baz (elbow) walked five and was charged with three runs over 1 2/3 innings on Friday in a minor league rehab start for Triple-A Durham.

Advice: Baz struggled to find the strike zone in this one, handing out a staggering five free passes and was lifted after 59 pitches (29 strikes) in the second inning. The 24-year-old righty is going to wind up requiring a couple additional rehab outings before the Rays consider him ready to rejoin the big-league rotation. He’s one of the most talented young pitchers in baseball, but it’s going to take him some time to round back into form after missing nearly two years recovering from Tommy John surgery. • Goes yard again Friday
Ramirez went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in Friday's 6-3 loss to the White Sox.

Advice: Ramirez has gone 8-for-23 (.348) over his last six games, and half of his hits in that span have left the yard. He started the year slowly from a power standpoint, but the third baseman is up to nine homers, 33 RBI and a .471 slugging percentage through 38 contests thanks to his recent surge. He's still a little light for batting average (.245), but that's nothing to be concerned about while he's squaring up the ball well. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:26 pm
    • Joe Ryan keeps Blue Jays quiet in victory
Joe Ryan pitched seven innings of one-run ball Friday in the Twins’ 3-2 defeat of the Blue Jays.

Advice: The lone run was a 365-foot homer from Isiah Kiner-Falefa. The ball barely rated as hard hit, leaving his bat at 95.5 mph, and was a homer in only 11 ballparks. It’s Ryan’s fourth straight quality start, and he still hasn’t allowed more than three earned runs in a game this season. Alas, the win tonight was only his second. Ryan will face the Yankees next.
