    • Robbie Ray to pitch in ACL game next week
Robbie Ray (elbow) is scheduled to pitch in an Arizona Complex League game at some point next week as he continues his recovery from Tommy John surgery.

Advice: Ray continues to make strides toward a return to the Giants’ rotation. He’s going to wind up needing several minor league rehab starts after he’s finished with his work in the Arizona Complex League before he’s ready to return. As long as he avoids any setbacks along the way, he could be ready to make his Giants’ debut before the All-Star break. Rotoworld 54 minutes ago

    • Sitting Friday
Stanton is not in the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Giants.

Advice: Stanton has struggled as of late, going 1-for-20 with eight strikeouts over his last five games, and he's now down to .225/.275/.471 for the season. Trent Grisham will start in center field Friday while Aaron Judge serves as the designated hitter against Giants right-hander Jordan Hicks. Rotowire.com Today, 4:05 pm
    • Kerry Carpenter dealing with lumbar spine fracture
The Tigers announced Friday that Kerry Carpenter is dealing with a lumbar spine fracture — not just inflammation as previously announced.

Advice: No word yet on an updated timeline, but there are rumblings that the 26-year-old slugger is going to miss at least a couple of months. That would be a devastating blow to the middle of the Tigers’ lineup, as Carpenter as been the team’s best hitter through the first two months of the season. Rotoworld Today, 2:01 pm
    • Has stress fracture in back
Carpenter has been diagnosed with a lumbar spine stress fracture, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

Advice: Carpenter was placed on the 10-day injured list earlier this week with what was called lumbar spine inflammation, but further testing appears to have revealed a more significant injury. The Tigers have not divulged a potential timetable for Carpenter's return, but his absence could be a lengthy one. Akil Baddoo should continue to see his playing time rise while Carpenter is on the shelf. Rotowire.com Today, 2:00 pm
    • Out against lefty
Varsho is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Pirates.

Advice: With Pittsburgh sending southpaw Bailey Falter to the mound, the lefty-hitting Varsho will retreat to the bench. Davis Schneider will move to left field and bat leadoff while Kevin Kiermaier and George Springer round out Toronto's outfield. Rotowire.com Today, 12:09 pm
    • Nearing rehab outing
Cole (elbow) could make his first rehab start Tuesday, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Cole threw live batting practice Thursday, and his next step will likely be a lengthy rehab assignment. It's unclear which affiliate he'll begin the assignment with, though it will be a significant step toward his return regardless of exactly where it occurs. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 6:04 pm

    • Tagged with first blown save
Miller was charged with a blown save in Thursday's 6-5 loss to Tampa Bay in 12 innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on one hit and three walks over two innings. He struck out four.

Advice: Jose Siri's game-tying homer in the bottom of the ninth was the first given up by Miller this year while also resulting in his first blown save in 12 chances. Despite Thursday's hiccup, it's been an excellent start to the season for the 26-year-old Miller -- his ERA now sits at 2.08 with a 0.88 WHIP and 51 strikeouts, the most among qualified relief pitchers, through 26 innings. • Miller blows first save of the season Thursday
Mason Miller blew the save against the Rays on Thursday.

Advice: Miller entered the ninth inning with a 4-3 lead and allowed a solo home run to Jose Siri. It was his first blown save of the season. Miller had basically been untouchable all season as he converted his first 11 saves. His ERA is now 2.08 on the year. Miller remains one of the most dominant relievers in all of baseball and would likely remain in a closing role if traded to a contender later this year.

    • Gerrit Cole (elbow) close to rehab assignment
Gerrit Cole (elbow) threw a 43-pitch simulated game on Thursday.

Advice: Yankees manager Aaron Boone told reporters Thursday that Cole could start a minor league rehab assignment as early as next week. The initial hope was for Cole to return sometime in June, and that could remain a possibility if he is indeed able to begin a rehab assignment in the next week or so. Stay tuned.
