    • Will Smith homers three times in win over Brewers
Will Smith hit three homers to help the Dodgers to an 8-5 win over the Brewers on Friday.

Advice: Three homers is a lot. Smith hit two of his dingers off Aaron Civale, and he took Bryan Hudson deep for his third roundtripper of the contest and the 14th of the season. On top of those homers, Smith also drew two walks. Smith continues to be among — of not the — best catchers in the sport and is slashing a strong .276/.349/.502 with 53 RBI. There’s plenty of reasons to believe he’ll be just as good or better in the second half of the year. Rotoworld 28 minutes ago

    • Delivers walk-off homer
Machado went 4-for-5 with a two-run home run, a double and three total runs scored in Friday's 10-8 win over the Diamondbacks.

Advice: The Padres blew a five-run lead in the top of the ninth inning, but Machado saved the day with his walk-off blast. He had started to go cold, going 2-for-15 over his previous four games, but he's now slugged five homers and added 11 RBI over his last nine contests. The third baseman is at a .270/.320/.425 slash line with 12 long balls, 49 RBI, 42 runs scored and five stolen bases through 84 games this season. Rotowire.com 39 minutes ago

    • Manny Machado hits game-winning homer in ninth
Manny Machado hit a walkoff two-run homer to give the Padres a 10-8 win over the Diamondbacks on Friday.

Advice: The Padres trailed 8-7 in the ninth, but after Jurickson Profar took Paul Sewald deep to tie the game and Jake Cronenworth walked, Machado blasted a two-run shot off Sewald for the game-winner. The 32-year-old star has a dozen homers and 49 RBI on the season, but none bigger — at this point, anyway — than the ones he procured Friday night. Rotoworld 40 minutes ago

    • Loses despite quality start
Baz (0-1) allowed three runs on seven hits and a walk over six innings Friday, striking out six and taking the loss against the Rangers.

Advice: Making his first MLB appearance since July 10, 2022, Baz delivered a quality start on 92 pitches. He looked impressive outside of an ugly three-run third inning. His fastball averaged 96.2 mph and topped out at 99.1. Baz posted a 4.12 ERA with a 44:23 K:BB across 39.1 frames with Triple-A Durham prior to his promotion. The 25-year-old's spot in the rotation could be in question once Jeffrey Springs (elbow) is ready to return. As of now, Baz is in line to face the Yankees at home next week. • Escapes with save
Doval allowed a hit and a walk in a scoreless inning Friday, striking out one and earning a save over Cleveland.

Advice: Doval put the first two batters of the inning on base but escaped the jam to close out the 4-2 win. It was his third straight save conversion, and he's now 17 for 20 in opportunities this season. Doval has not looked like his usual self, however, as his current ERA and WHIP of 4.04 and 1.54, respectively, are both career highs. Rotowire.com Today, 7:58 pm
    • Idle against southpaw
Mullins is out of the lineup for Friday's game against Oakland.

Advice: The lefty-hitting Mullins will avoid a matchup with LHP Hogan Harris on Friday, giving way to Colton Cowser in center field. Mullins is slashing .220/.265/.388 with nine homers and 16 stolen bases across 268 plate appearances. Rotowire.com Today, 4:13 pm

    • Getting breather
Springer is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Mariners.

Advice: Springer will get his first true day off since June 18, yielding to Addison Barger in right field. After a slow start to 2024, Springer has begun to turn things around of late, going 14-for-30 with four home runs over his last nine games. Rotowire.com Today, 3:57 pm

    • Shane Baz promoted for 2024 debut on Friday
Rays recalled RHP Shane Baz from Triple-A Durham.

Advice: Finally, the 25-year-old right-hander will make his highly anticipated 2024 regular season debut on Friday evening against the Rangers. Baz made 10 starts at Triple-A Durham while building up his stamina, registering a 4.12 ERA, 1.58 WHIP and a 44/23 K/BB ratio across 39 1/3 innings of work. He’ll probably only go five innings in Friday’s start against the Rangers, so fantasy managers should temper expectations for a victory in his first start. He should deliver plenty of strikeouts though. Rotoworld Today, 2:53 pm
    • Officially recalled for start
The Rays recalled Baz from Triple-A Durham on Friday, Ryan Bass of Bally Sports Sun reports.

Advice: He will start Friday in Texas against the Rangers, taking the rotation spot vacated by Aaron Civale, who was traded to the Brewers earlier this week. Baz will be making his first major-league start since July 2022, as he missed the entire 2023 season while recovering from Tommy John surgery. The young right-hander had been heating up at Durham in June, collecting a 1.57 ERA and 35:10 K:BB across 23 innings. Baz will have a good shot to remain in the Rays rotation for the rest of the season and needs to be picked up in most fantasy leagues where he's still available. Rotowire.com Today, 9:59 am
