    • Bat shows life in loss
Garcia went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI in Friday's 6-5 loss to Toronto.

Advice: Garcia had a run-producing, two-out single in the first then hit the shortest home run ever measured at Rogers Center since Statcast began tracking distance. Garcia sent an opposite field flyball that clanged off the base of the foul pole in right field, 328 feet away. It's a sign that the outfielder's cool bat may be coming to life. Garcia entered the contest with a .437 OPS over the last 16 games and just one home run over the last 19. Rotowire.com 28 minutes ago

    • Getting second opinion
Carter was shut down from baseball activities Friday and will get a second opinion on his lower back soreness, MLB.com reports.

Advice: Carter is set to visit a specialist in California, and the Rangers will reassess the outfielder's condition and map out steps for his recovery pending the results of the appointment. "He's just not coming along like we were hoping," Texas manager Bruce Bochy said. There had been talk of Carter beginning a rehab assignment next week, but those plans are on hold. • Swipes three bags
Abrams went 1-for-4 with an RBI, two runs scored, three stolen bases and two walks in Friday's extra-innings win against the Cardinals.

Advice: Abrams scored the game-tying run in the seventh inning after drawing a walk and stealing both second and third base. He later drove in Washington's 10th and final run on an infield hit. After a hot June, Abrams has dramatically cooled off in July. He owns a .586 OPS over 21 games this month. For the season, he's slashing .260/.335/.465 with 42 extra-base knocks and 19 steals. • Scores in return
Friedl went 0-for-3 with a walk and a run scored in Friday's 3-2 extra-inning win over the Rays.

Advice: Friedl made his latest return from the injured list Friday and, unexpectedly, slotted in at cleanup. After walking in his first plate appearance, he came home on a two-run double by Jeimer Candelario. Friedl normally leads off for the Reds and is expected to resume that role at some point. It's been a stop-and-start season for Friedl, whose three separate stints on the IL likely contributes to a career-low .210 batting average. Rotowire.com Today, 4:34 am

    • Evan Carter to visit back specialist for second opinion
Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said Friday that Evan Carter is scheduled to visit a back specialist for a second opinion.

Advice: Not great. Carter is currently shut down from all baseball activities after not feeling well enough to head out on a minor league rehab assignment coming out of the All-Star break. The 21-year-old former top prospect has been out since late May recovering from a stress reaction in his back. There should be an update on his status in the coming days, but there’s now a non-zero possibility he might not make it back this season. Rotoworld Today, 4:22 am

    • Jake Burger goes 2-for-5, homers in victory
Jake Burger went 2-for-5 and hit his 13th home run against the Brewers in Friday’s win.

Advice: It’s possible Burger will be involved in a deadline deal for the second straight year, though the Marlins might prefer to keep him and hope he adds to his value after a down first half. His current .670 OPS is his highest mark since Apr. 14. He has six homers in 19 games this month after totaling seven in 62 games to begin the year. Rotoworld Yesterday, 11:56 pm

    • Brayan Bello goes five, gives up three runs
Brayan Bello pitched five innings of three-run ball Friday in a no-decision against the Yankees.

Advice: Bello allowed five hits, walked two and struck out four in a pretty typical outing for him. He’s allowed exactly three runs in three straight outings, and he’s pitched between 4 2/3 innings and 6 2/3 innings in all but one of his 19 starts. Mediocre. Rotoworld Yesterday, 10:49 pm

    • Secures third save
Erceg allowed a hit and struck out one over a scoreless inning to earn the save in Friday's 5-4 win over the Angels.

Advice: Erceg was deployed in the eighth inning Thursday to protect a one-run lead, but he was called on to close things out Friday in a similar situation. With Mason Miller sidelined by a fractured finger on his non-throwing hand, Erceg is expected to be the favorite for saves for the Athletics in the short term, though Tyler Ferguson received the first chance in Miller's absence. Erceg has been a fine setup man this year with a 3.68 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 41:13 K:BB to go with three saves, 12 holds and three blown saves over 36.2 innings. He's kept runs off the board in 12 of his last 13 appearances, the exception being a four-run meltdown last Sunday against the Angels. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:45 pm
    • Lucas Erceg picks up save Friday against Angels
Lucas Erceg was credited with the save Friday against the Angels after firing a scoreless ninth inning.

Advice: Tyler Ferguson got the first chance for the A’s with Miller sidelined, but they turned to Erceg for this one. It’s the third save of the season for Erceg and the scoreless frame lowers his ERA to 3.68. This is not a great fantasy situation while Miller is out, but Erceg seems more likely to get most of the save chances for now. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:20 pm
