    • Jackson Chourio reportedly on Opening Day roster
Jackson Chourio will make his major league debut next week, according to Milwaukee Journal Sentinel’s Curt Hogg.

Advice: The 20-year-old and second-ranked prospect in baseball will make his debut against the New York Mets on March 28. It wasn’t a sure thing that the young star would make the roster given the Brewers’ depth in the outfield, but he’s clearly done enough to get the approval from the front office and coaching staff. The Brewers expressed how they’ve seen Chourio grow from a maturity standpoint and could be a reason why they made the decision to give him this opportunity. “I don’t think anyone handles (expectations) seamlessly the right way,” Brewers manager Pat Murphy said. “But I think overall he will handle it just fine because I think he cares more about being good than being rich.” In his 14 spring games, Chourio has gone 14-for-49 (.286 AVG) with three doubles and three RBI. • Named to Opening Day roster
The Brewers confirmed Monday that Chourio will make the Opening Day roster, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Advice: It was reported earlier Monday by skipper Pat Murphy that Chourio was "in the mix" to make the club's Opening Day roster, but Hogg established Monday evening that Chourio will be a member of the big-league squad to kick off the 2024 campaign. Expectations for the 20-year-old outfielder are high, especially following a massive eight-year, $82 million contract signed earlier this spring, and considering he's fared well against major-league arms in Cactus League play (14-for-49 with three RBI and eight runs scored over 14 games). Chourio is expected to see the majority of his playing time in center field, where he won a minor-league Gold Glove during the 2022 season. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:04 pm
    • Jackson Chourio commits two errors in right field
Jackson Chourio went 1-for-3 and committed two errors in right field Monday against the Angels.

Advice: Chourio’s defense is becoming a topic in Brewers camp. He’s up to three errors now, though all of those have been committed in his four games in the corners. He hasn’t had any errors in 10 games in center, where he nearly exclusively played in the minors. There is the chance the Brewers will bypass Chourio and go with Garrett Mitchell, Sal Frelick, Joey Wiemer and Blake Perkins for the two spots alongside Christian Yelich. Still, they have no financial incentive for doing so. Rotoworld Yesterday, 4:39 pm
    • Oneil Cruz hits two more homers in rout
Oneil Cruz went 3-for-6, hit two more homers and drove in six runs Monday as the Pirates crushed a Phillies split-squad 11-2.

Advice: Cruz tied Kyle Stowers for the spring lead with seven homers. Anyone fortunate enough to draft him earlier this month should be pretty excited now, but it’s still probably worth paying the enhanced price he’s commanding in drafts; a 30 HR-30 SB season is well within reach here. • Carlos Rodón tosses hitless inning against Yankees
Carlos Rodón kept a Phillies split-squad hitless for 5 2/3 innings Monday in the Yankees’ 4-3 victory.

Advice: Rodón struck out five and walked one versus a lineup that included three likely regulars. His 94.5 mph average on his fastball was pretty typical for him this spring. We wouldn’t say it’s been a particularly encouraging exhibition campaign for Rodón, but he’s healthy and he’s been quite effective in amassing a 2.93 ERA. There hasn’t been any sign that the Rodón of 2022 is coming back, but fortunately, this also doesn’t look like the Rodón of 2023. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:58 pm
    • Early exit Monday was planned
Alvarez's early removal from Monday's Grapefruit League game versus the Marlins was planned and he is not injured, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

Advice: It seemed a bit odd that Alvarez was lifted after just two plate appearances, but evidently that was always the plan and he is fine, so fantasy managers can breathe a sigh of relief. Alvarez is 10-for-29 with one home run so far this spring. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 1:02 pm
    • Exits early Monday
Alvarez left Monday's game against the Marlins earlier than anticipated, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

Advice: He fouled a ball off his foot Friday, although it was reported that he exited that game due to an allergic reaction. Alvarez returned to action Sunday and was in Monday's lineup for two at-bats before exiting. There should be an update on his status after the game. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 12:25 pm
    • In 'mix' for roster spot
Chourio is "in the mix" to make the Opening Day roster, according to manager Pat Murphy, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Advice: Murphy said that Joey Ortiz "has a good shot to make the club" during the same media scrum, so it's noteworthy that the team isn't publicly saying Chourio is likely to make the team. Chourio, who turned 20 earlier this month, is slashing .283/.313/.348 with zero home runs, zero steals, 10 strikeouts and two walks in 48 Cactus League plate appearances. If the Brewers want to give Ortiz regular playing time at third base, that would leave Garrett Mitchell, Christian Yelich, Sal Frelick and Joey Wiemer competing with Chourio for three starting outfield spots. There is no financial motivation for Milwaukee to send Chourio to Triple-A, but he still needs to earn a spot over the final week of spring training. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 12:02 pm
    • Sharp third time out
Gallen allowed one hit and one walk while striking out four over 4.1 scoreless innings in Sunday's Cactus League start against the Angels.

Advice: Gallen threw 58 pitches (34 strikes) in his third Cactus League start and had to pitch into the fifth inning to get the count up that high. The right-hander said Sunday was the best he's felt this spring, per Steve Gilbert of MLB.com. Gallen will get one more spring start that should prepare him for the pitch-count range he'll need to be at for Opening Day. Rotowire.com Sunday, 8:07 pm
