    • Belts homer among three hits
Alvarez went 3-for-5 with a solo home run and an additional RBI in a 5-3 win against the White Sox on Thursday.

Advice: Alvarez missed Houston's previous two games due to a family matter, but he wasted little time getting back into the swing of things upon his return, smashing a 439-foot solo shot in the first frame Thursday. The slugger added an RBI single in a four-run Astros seventh inning that paved the way to victory. Alvarez's homer Thursday was his 15th of the season, putting him at the halfway point of reaching 30 long balls for the fourth straight campaign. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:59 pm

    • Blows save, earns win
Fairbanks (2-3) earned the win Thursday, allowing one run on two hits over two innings against the Twins. He struck out one.

Advice: Fairbanks was not needed to start the ninth due to the Rays holding a four-run lead, but a leadoff homer followed by the next two runners reaching base necessitated the call to Fairbanks. After inducing a couple of quick outs, Jose Miranda tagged him for a two-out game-tying homer that sent the game to extras. Once the Rays regained the lead in the 10th, Fairbanks stayed on to close out his own victory. The blown save was the second of the season for Fairbanks, who ran the gamut during the series with the Twins, suffering the loss on Tuesday followed by the blown save and subsequent win on Thursday. • Zac Gallen (hamstring) to throw sim game next week
Zac Gallen (hamstring) is scheduled to throw another simulated game early next week.

Advice: The hope here is that Gallen will be ready to be activated, without requiring a minor league rehab assignment, after next week’s simulated game. The 28-year-old righty has been on the shelf since late May after suffering a Grade 1 right hamstring strain. Rotoworld Yesterday, 5:46 pm

    • McMahon belts 13th home run Thursday
Ryan McMahon went 2-for-4 with a solo home run against the Dodgers on Thursday.

Advice: The home run was McMahon’s 13th of the year. It was McMahon’s third game in a row with at least two hits. Over his last eight games, he’s 13-for-33 (.393) with three home runs, nine runs scored and six RBI. McMahon is up to .274 with a .826 OPS and 40 RBI on the season. Rotoworld Yesterday, 3:33 pm

    • Yordan Alvarez homers, picks up three hits in win
Yordan Alvarez homered and went 3-for-5 with two RBI in a 5-3 victory for Houston over the White Sox on Thursday.

Advice: Alvarez smoked a homer in the first inning off Chris Flexen to give the Astros a 1-0 lead, and he tied the game at 3-3 with his single in the seventh. The 26-year-old outfielder has now driven in 39 runs, and it’s the 15th homer of the campaign. Simply put, Alvarez is one of the best hitters in baseball, and it’s only the lack of stolen bases that keeps him from the cream of the crop of fantasy players. Rotoworld Yesterday, 2:04 pm

    • Royce Lewis homers again versus Tampa Bay
Royce Lewis homered and walked twice against the Twins on Thursday.

Advice: Of course he homered. That’s already the ninth homer of the season for Lewis; a solid number for a first half of season, but even more impressive when you remember he’s only played 15 games. The 2017 first-overall pick has been remarkable when healthy enough to play, and his 2024 slash is a scorching .385/.459/.942. That’s obviously not sustainable, but he has the talent to be an elite fantasy player as long as he can stay on the field. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:28 pm

    • Pete Fairbanks (thumb) blows save, gets victory
Pete Fairbanks (thumb) blew a save while allowing a run against the Twins on Thursday, but worked two innings to get the victory.

Advice: Fairbanks entered the game with a couple of runners on and Tampa Bay holding a 6-3 cushion. He was able to get the first two outs, but then gave up a game-tying homer to Jose Miranda to blow the save. He was able to get the final three outs after the Rays scored in the 10th, however, so he gets the win. The right-hander missed a couple of days while dealing with a thumb injury, so the positive is he was back on the mound and does at least get a win. Fairbanks is still likely to see save chances going forward even with a fair share of clunkers. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:28 pm
    • Maikel Garcia gets a day off on Thursday
Maikel Garcia is not in the Royals’ lineup for Thursday’s game against the Athletics.

Advice: The 24-year-old is hitting just .145 in 16 games in June with 12 strikeouts. He does have four steals and 10 runs scored and is coming off a month of May where he hit .305, so this might be nothing but a brief cold stretch. The Royals will hope a day off helps him get back on track. In the meantime, Garrett Hampson will start at second base and hit eighth with Nick Loftin moving over to third base. • Aims for baseball activities soon
Astros manager Joe Espada said Thursday that he's hopeful Tucker (shin) will be ready to begin baseball activities this weekend, Casey Drottar of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Tucker's recovery from a right shin contusion has come along more slowly than expected, but he seems to have made some progress in recent days. Because he's already missed more than two weeks, Tucker could require a brief rehab assignment before returning from the 10-day injured list. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:25 am
