    • Secures third victory
Rodon (3-2) earned the win over Houston on Wednesday, allowing two runs on seven hits and no walks while striking out seven batters over 6.1 innings.

Advice: Rodon gave up six earned runs over four frames in his worst start of the campaign his last time out, but he bounced back with a strong showing Wednesday. The left-hander racked up 16 swinging strikes against the Astros, leading to his second-highest single-game strikeout total of the season. While Rodon's season ERA sits at a mediocre 3.56, that's largely due to the blowup outing against Baltimore. He has posted a 2.54 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 37:14 K:BB over 39 innings across his other seven starts. Rotowire.com Today, 12:25 am

    • Allows one hit in seven frames
Cease (5-2) picked up the win Wednesday against the Cubs, allowing one hit and two walks over seven scoreless innings. He struck out 12.

Advice: Cease fell one K shy of his career high in strikeouts and only allowed four total baserunners -- an infield single, two walks and a hit-by-pitch -- en route to his fifth win of his last six starts. He's been making a case for the AL Cy Young in his first season with the Padres, earning a 2.19 ERA and a 0.75 WHIP with 60 strikeouts over 49.1 innings pitched. Cease will look to add to his already impressive 2024 resume in a projected home start Tuesday against the Rockies. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:57 pm

    • Picks up first RBI, steal in loss
Friedl went 2-for-4 with a stolen base and an RBI in Wednesday's 4-3 loss to the Diamondbacks.

Advice: Friedl, playing his second game back from nearly two months on the injured list, drove in his first run of the season in the bottom of the ninth to make things interesting. He then stole his first base of the season, putting two runners in scoring position before Joe Mantiply escaped with the save for Arizona. Friedl, who batted leadoff Tuesday against a right-hander, slotted in at eighth in the order Wednesday against left-hander Jordan Montgomery. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:32 pm

    • Carlos Rodón strikes out seven in win over Astros
Carlos Rodón allowed two runs with seven strikeouts across 6 1/3 innings in a win over the Astros on Wednesday.

Advice: Rodón served up a solo homer to Kyle Tucker in the first inning. He settled in nicely, tossing five more scoreless frames. Rodón went back out for the seventh gave up a run on two hits before his day was done with one out in the frame. He struck out seven on an impressive 16 whiffs. It was a nice bounceback effort for the 31-year-old left-hander. He’ll take a 3.56 ERA, 1.26 WHIP, and a 43/14 K/BB ratio across 43 innings into a start against the Twins in Minnesota on Tuesday. • Dylan Cease hurls 12-strikeout gem versus Cubs
Dylan Cease recorded a season-high 12 strikeouts over seven shutout innings on Wednesday in a win over the Cubs.

Advice: Cease was simply magnificent during Wednesday afternoon’s matinee at Wrigley Field, inducing a surreal 24 swinging strikes, including 12 on his slider alone, and finished with an elite 39 percent CSW. He limited Chicago’s formidable offense to just three baserunners, one hit and a pair of walks, over seven nearly-flawless frames. His 12 strikeouts were just one shy of his previous career-high mark set back on June 26, 2022. The 28-year-old fantasy ace has been outstanding in his San Diego debut, allowing two earned runs or fewer in seven of his eight starts. He’ll bring a stellar 2.19 ERA, 0.75 WHIP and 60/16 K/BB ratio across 49 1/3 innings (eight starts) into a tasty home matchup on Tuesday against the Rockies at Petco Park. • Throws off mound Wednesday
Rodriguez (shoulder) threw 15 pitches off the mound Wednesday, Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports.

Advice: It's the first time Rodriguez has thrown off a mound since he landed on the 15-day injured list a week ago with right shoulder inflammation. The hope is that the right-hander will be ready to go when his 15 days are up, but he still has some hurdles to clear in order to make that a reality. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 1:26 pm

    • On base thrice in Tuesday's win
Rodriguez went 1-for-3 with a single, two walks, a stolen base and a run in a win over the Twins on Tuesday.

Advice: Rodriguez deployed the small-ball strategy to great effectiveness Tuesday, pushing his OBP for the season back over the .300 mark (.309) in the process. The steal was Rodriguez's eighth of the season in 10 attempts; however, he's still sitting on just a single home run and five extra-base hits overall in 152 plate appearances, after averaging one XBH every 10.1 trips to the batter's box a season ago. Both Rodriguez's barrel (6.4 percent) and hard-hit (30.9 percent) rates have taken notable dips from their respective 11.9 percent and 38.87 percent figures in 2023, partly explaining the power drought. • Picks up 12th save
Finnegan struck out one batter during a perfect ninth inning to pick up the save Tuesday against Baltimore.

Advice: Finnegan has been one of the most reliable closers in the big leagues this season, and he now leads the majors after picking up his 12th save Tuesday. The 32-year-old right-hander owns a 1.76 ERA and 0.85 WHIP, and he's struck out 15 batters across 15.1 innings on the year. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:02 am
    • Belts grand slam
Harper went 3-for-3 with a grand slam, scored twice and drew a walk during Tuesday's 10-1 victory over the Blue Jays.

Advice: The 31-year-old slugger singled and later scored on a Nick Castellanos double to get Philadelphia on the board in the first inning, and his fourth-inning grand slam gave the Phillies a massive 8-0 lead. Harper has now hit a home run in each of his last three contests, recording six total hits and 10 RBI in that span. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:57 am
