    • Swats solo shot Monday
Smith went 1-for-4 with a solo home run, an additional run and a walk in Monday's 8-4 victory against the Diamondbacks.

Advice: Smith padded the Dodgers' lead in the sixth inning with a 407-foot solo blast to center field. It was the backstop's second long ball in three games after he went deep just once over his first 23 contests of the campaign. Though he's been pretty quiet in the power department thus far, Smith is having an outstanding start to the season, slashing .363/.404/.539 with 22 RBI and 16 runs through 114 plate appearances. • Another quality start
Ryan didn't factor into the decision Monday, allowing two runs on six hits and a walk across six innings against the White Sox. He struck out three.

Advice: Although Ryan tallied his lowest strikeout total of the campaign, he cashed in on his fourth quality start of his last five appearances. After yielding a pair of home runs to the White Sox in his last start, Ryan limited the team to just one extra-base hit on the day. He owns a 1.3 BB/9 through 34.2 innings in 2024, another improvement after posting a 2.9 BB/9 in 2022 and a 1.9 BB/9 in 2023. Ryan is tentatively scheduled for a start against the Sox of Boston on Sunday. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:35 pm

    • Swats leadoff homer
Nimmo went 1-for-3 with a solo home run during Monday's 3-1 loss to the Cubs.

Advice: Nimmo's first-inning homer was the lone run scored by the Mets on Monday, as the team was held to four hits in total. The long ball came off Jameson Taillon and was Nimmo's first since Apr. 8. During his last 10 games, Nimmo is batting .182 with eight runs scored. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:54 pm

    • Joe Ryan allows two runs Monday in no-decision
Joe Ryan gave up two runs over six innings on Monday in a no-decision against the White Sox.

Advice: Ryan didn’t exactly capitalize on his second straight extremely favorable matchup against Chicago’s struggling lineup, finishing with three strikeouts and only issuing one walk. He finished with only nine swinging strikes and a disastrous 21 percent CSW. The 27-year-old righty has been on a roll, allowing three earned runs or fewer in six consecutive starts to open the 2024 campaign. He’ll carry a strong 3.38 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 41/5 K/BB ratio across 34 2/3 innings (six starts) into a home outing on Sunday against the Red Sox at Target Field. Rotoworld Yesterday, 8:02 pm

    • Brandon Nimmo hits leadoff homer in loss to Cubs
Brandon Nimmo belted a leadoff homer on Monday in the Mets’ loss to the Cubs.

Advice: Nimmo took Cubs starter Jameson Taillon deep to open the ballgame with his third long ball of the season. It was the first time he’s gone deep since a two-home explosion back on April 8. Unfortunately, it was all New York’s offense would muster for the remainder of the contest as they wound up with just three additional hits against Taillon and relievers Mark Leiter Jr. and Héctor Neris. • Carlos Correa (intercostal) officially off of IL
Twins activated INF Carlos Correa off the 10-day injured list.

Advice: Correa ended up missing a couple of weeks with his intercostal strain. The infielder is back with Austin Martin heading back to Triple-A in the corresponding transaction. Now that Correa is back, he’ll play everyday at shortstop and hit in the middle of the Minnesota lineup. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:15 pm

    • Comes off IL
The Twins reinstated Correa (intercostal) from the 10-day injured list Monday.

Advice: Correa ended up spending about two and a half weeks on the IL after being deactivated April 13 with a right intercostal strain. Though he wasn't sent out on a minor-league rehab assignment prior to being activated, Correa should immediately take back an everyday role at shortstop as he rejoins the active roster ahead of Monday's series opener versus the White Sox. Outfielder Austin Martin was optioned to Triple-A St. Paul in a corresponding move. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:58 am

    • Goes on paternity leave
The Yankees placed Verdugo (personal) on the paternity list Monday.

Advice: While he leaves the team to celebrate the birth of his child, Verdugo won't be available for Monday's series opener in Baltimore, and he'll most likely remain away for games Tuesday and Wednesday before he would need to be activated ahead of Thursday's series finale versus the Orioles. The Yankees are scheduled to face right-handed starting pitchers for each of their next three games, so left-handed-hitting outfielders Trent Grisham and Taylor Trammell could represent logical replacements in the lineup for Verdugo.
