    • Notches second win
Ober (2-1) allowed two runs on three this and three walks over 7.1 innings Friday, striking out eight and earning a win over the Angels.

Advice: Ober fired five shutout frames before the Angels broke through with a run in the sixth inning. After he was throttled for eight runs in his season debut, the 28-year-old righty has given up just four runs over his last four starts, dropping his ERA down to 4.21 through 25.2 innings. He's also posted an impressive 24:6 K:BB through 24.1 frames over his last four outings. Ober is currently in line for a road matchup with the White Sox next week, where he has a good chance to continue riding this momentum. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:59 pm
    • Bailey Ober pitches into eighth in win over Angels
Bailey Ober went 7 2/3 innings while allowing two runs with eight strikeouts to get a win Friday over the Angels.

Advice: Ober gave up just three hits, but did walk three while throwing 63-of-96 pitches for strikes. The right-hander breezed through the first five innings without allowing a run, and while he did allow a run in the sixth and eighth, it’s obviously a strong outing for the 28-year-old. Ober has been strong in his last few outings, but his 4.21 ERA is being held hostage but the nine runs he allowed to Kansas City in the first start of the year. Ober is a must-start next week against the White Sox. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:43 pm
    • Likely won't return when eligible
General manager Justin Hollander said Friday that Crawford (oblique) likely won't be activated from the injured list when he's eligible May 5, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Crawford was placed on the injured list Thursday with a Grade 1 oblique strain -- the least severe type of strain -- though it appears the 29-year-old shortstop is still facing an extended absence. Hollander didn't provide an exact timeline for Crawford's return, but a 2-to-3 week absence seems to be the best possible scenario. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 6:12 pm

    • J.P. Crawford (oblique) to miss at least 2-3 weeks
Mariners general manager Justin Hollander told reporters on Friday that he expects J.P. Crawford (oblique) to miss at least 2-3 weeks in a best-case scenario.

Advice: Crawford landed on the injured list on Thursday with a right oblique strain. It’s not surprising news, so oblique strains can tend to linger if they aren’t allowed to fully heal, so the Mariners’ will do the prudent thing here and proceed cautiously. Dylan Moore looks like he’ll continue to function as the team’s regular shortstop while Crawford is shelved. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:03 pm

    • Padres activate Manny Machado from paternity list
Padres activated INF Manny Machado from the paternity list.

Advice: Machado was away from the club over the first half of the week as he welcomed his first child — a healthy baby boy — into the world. The proud papa will start at third base for the first time all season and will bat cleanup against Aaron Nola and the Phillies on Friday evening in San Diego. Rotoworld Yesterday, 4:18 pm

    • Starting at third base Friday
Machado (personal) was added to the active roster and is starting at third base for Friday's game against the Phillies, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Advice: Machado was placed on the paternity list Monday and ended up missing the Padres' last four games. What's notable about Friday's game is that Machado is starting at third base for the first time since getting surgery on his right elbow in October, while Graham Pauley serves as the designated hitter. Machado's return is a welcome one with rookie Jackson Merrill missing his second straight game due to a lingering groin issue. Machado is slashing .260/.324/.417 with four home runs and 12 RBI over 105 plate appearances to start the season. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 2:45 pm

    • Max Kepler sits against left-hander Friday night
Max Kepler is not in the Twins’ starting lineup for Friday night’s ballgame against the Angels.

Advice: It’s the second straight game that Kepler has sat against a left-hander — this time Patrick Sandoval. While Kepler didn’t show massive platoon splits during the 2023 campaign, it’s something to at least keep an eye on for fantasy managers. Manuel Margot will start in his place in right field and bat third on Friday evening in Los Angeles. Rotoworld Yesterday, 2:39 pm

    • Moves to injured list
The Marlins placed Luzardo on the 15-day injured list Friday, retroactive to April 23, with left elbow tightness.

Advice: The left-hander was scratched from Friday's start against Washington due to the injury and will now be sidelined for at least the next couple weeks. According to Christina De Nicola of MLB.com, Luzardo first felt the elbow issue while playing catch Thursday and believes it shouldn't be a lengthy absence, though he's also awaiting test results that should provide more clarity on the injury. • Marlins place Jesús Luzardo (elbow) on 15-day IL
Marlins placed LHP Jesús Luzardo on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to April 23, with left elbow tightness.

Advice: No surprise here. Luzardo was supposed to make a start against the Nationals on Friday, but he was scratched due to elbow discomfort and now he’ll be sidelined for at least the next two weeks. The 26-year-old said he felt the discomfort while playing catch on Thursday and feels an IL stint is more precautionary than anything else. The team is awaiting more test results, but the hope is that he only has to miss one to two starts. Rotoworld Yesterday, 12:02 pm
