• Nick Gonzales plates two as Pirates top Cubs
Nick Gonzales went 2-for-4 and drove in a pair of runs on Sunday afternoon, propelling the Pirates to a 3-2 victory over the Cubs at Wrigley Field.

Advice: Gonzales smacked a go-ahead two-run single off of Hayden Wesneski in the fifth inning, giving the Pirates a lead they would never relinquish. With his two-hit attack, the 24-year-old infielder is now slashing .265/.278/.471 with a pair of homers, eight RBI and one stolen base through his first 37 plate appearances with the Pirates this season. • DFA'd by Colorado
Carreras was designated for assignment by the Rockies on Sunday, Luke Zahlmann of The Denver Gazette reports.

Advice: The 24-year-old was optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque in mid-March and has now lost his place on the 40-man roster. Carreras has struggled to a .515 OPS and 32.9 percent strikeout rate through 38 games with the Isotopes this season. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 1:55 pm
  • Should return this week
Mariners manager Scott Servais said Sunday that Crawford (oblique/hand) is expected to join the club at some point during the four-game series against the Yankees that begins Monday, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.

Advice: The 29-year-old was unable to join the Mariners as expected in Baltimore this weekend after he was hit by a pitch on the hand during a rehab game Wednesday, but it appears his return will be delayed only a few days. Once activated from the injured list, Crawford should reclaim the starting job at shortstop from Dylan Moore. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 1:07 pm

  • J.P. Crawford expected back before end of week
J.P. Crawford (hand, oblique) is expected to return to the Seattle lineup at some point during their four-game series against the Yankees next week.

Advice: That series runs Monday-through-Thursday. Crawford has been on the shelf with an oblique strain, but then also suffered a hand injury after being hit by a pitch from Adam Kolarek during a rehab appearance for Triple-A Tacoma. The 29-year-old will be the starting shortstop and likely hit at the top of the Seattle lineup upon his return. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:37 am

  • Two hits, steal in loss
Mateo went 2-for-3 with a double, a stolen base and a run scored in Saturday's 4-3 loss to the Mariners.

Advice: Mateo has hit .263 (10-for-38) over 13 games in May, but this was his first multi-hit effort of the season. He's made up for the lack of explosiveness with modest consistency, slashing .260/.301/.468 over 85 plate appearances this season. Mateo has added two home runs, six steals, five RBI, 14 runs scored, eight doubles and a triple. He continues to see most of the playing time at second base, with Jordan Westburg at third and Ramon Urias in a utility role. Rotowire.com Saturday, 11:22 pm

  • Slugs league-leading 14th homer
Henderson went 1-for-3 with his MLB-leading 14th home run in Saturday's 4-3 loss to the Mariners.

Advice: Not only was it flamethrowing reliever Andres Munoz whom Henderson took deep in the ninth inning, but he did so to the opposite field and over the 13-foot wall in left field in an impressive showing of power. It was the second game in a row with a homer for Henderson, who also drew a pair of walks Saturday. Rotowire.com Saturday, 7:30 pm
  • Jorge Mateo swipes base in loss to Mariners
Jorge Mateo went 2-for-3 with a run scored and a stolen base as the Orioles fell to the Mariners on a rainy Saturday evening in Baltimore.

Advice: Mateo led off the third inning with a double off of Mariners’ right-hander Luis Castillo, then raced around to score on a single off the bat of Ryan O’Hearn. He also singled in the second inning and swiped second base, but the Orioles were unable to cash him in. With his two-hit attack, Mateo is now hitting .260/.301/.468 on the season to go along with a pair of homers, five RBI and six stolen bases in 85 plate appearances. Rotoworld Saturday, 6:50 pm

  • Headed to Triple-A
Peraza (shoulder) was transferred to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to continue his rehab assignment Saturday.

Advice: Peraza went 2-for-16 with two solo home runs, four runs scored and a stolen base over 16 at-bats in five games with Double-A Somerset, and he'll now advance to the final step of his recovery from the shoulder injury he suffered in February. The 23-year-old could return to the Yankees at some point during their four-game series with the Mariners beginning Monday. Rotowire.com Saturday, 10:36 am

  • Lifts three-run homer
Garcia went 1-for-5 with a three-run home run in Friday's 6-2 win over the Athletics.

Advice: Garcia went deep as part of a five-run sixth inning that put the Royals in full control. The third baseman has hit safely in five straight games, adding two steals and four RBI in that span despite going a meager 5-for-22 (.227). Garcia's been held hitless in just three of 14 games in May, so he's still putting together decent at-bats despite not producing big numbers. The 24-year-old is slashing .238/.286/.381 with five homers, 28 RBI, 21 runs scored and 10 steals through 44 contests overall. Rotowire.com Friday, 9:26 pm
