    • Drives in three runs
Witt went 1-for-4 with a triple, three RBI and a run scored during Friday's 8-0 win at Detroit.

Advice: The 23-year-old started the scoring with a sacrifice fly during the third inning and added a two-run triple as part of a seven-run ninth for the Royals. Witt is in a bit of a power drought with no homers in his past 14 games, though he does have six RBI and three steals over his last four contests. Rotowire.com Today, 2:59 pm
    • Not starting Friday
Merrill (groin) is not in the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Phillies, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Advice: Merrill was taken out of the lineup ahead of Thursday's loss to the Rockies as a precaution, and he was expected to be back Friday, per Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune. It appears the groin injury is still lingering, however, and the rookie outfielder will not start for a second consecutive game. With Merrill out of the lineup, Jose Azocar will start in center field, Jurickson Profar will be in left field and Manny Machado will make his return from his paternity leave to start at third base. • Jackson Merrill (groin) remains out of lineup
Jackson Merrill (groin) remained out of the Padres’ starting lineup for Friday night’s game against the Phillies.

Advice: The 21-year-old outfielder had portrayed optimism that him being held out of the lineup on Thursday was a precautionary measure and that he wouldn’t be forced to miss any extended time. Hopefully that’s still the case, but it’s a bit discouraging to see him held out once more. Jose Azocar will start in his place in center field and will bat ninth against Aaron Nola and the Phillies on Friday night. Rotoworld Today, 2:26 pm

    • Bobby Witt Jr. plates three runs to lead Royals
Bobby Witt Jr. went 1-for-4 with a triple and three RBI on Friday afternoon, propelling the Royals to an 8-0 victory over the Tigers in Detroit.

Advice: The 23-year-old superstar opened the scoring in the third inning with a sacrifice fly off of Reese Olson. That would be the only run scored for either side until the Royals broke the game open with a seven-run ninth inning. Witt featured heavily in that frame, crushing a three-run triple off of Will Vest and scoring on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Vinnie Pasquantino. He has lived up to his lofty fantasy draft status so far this season — slashing .306/.350/.565 with four homers, 14 RBI and seven stolen bases through his first 27 games. Rotoworld Today, 1:26 pm
    • Pitches eighth inning Thursday
Payamps pitched a scoreless eighth inning of Thursday's 7-5 win over the Pirates, giving up one hit and one walk en route to claiming his third hold of the season.

Advice: Just one day after notching his fourth save of the season, Payamps moved to a setup role Thursday, with Trevor Megill coming on in the ninth inning to nab his first save. Brewers manager Pat Murphy hasn't clarified that Megill will be the team's top option for save chances moving forward, so Payamps could end finding himself as part of a committee at closer with Megill and perhaps Abner Uribe. • Keeps rolling with seventh save
Phillips earned a save against the Nationals on Thursday, striking out two batters in a perfect inning of work.

Advice: Phillips didn't have any trouble protecting Los Angeles' one-run, ninth-inning lead, striking out the first two batters he faced before inducing a game-ending groundout. The right-hander has yielded just one earned run over 10.2 innings on the season, giving him a minuscule 0.84 ERA. Phillips has converted all seven of his save chances as he continues to build his case as one of the league's most reliable closers. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:24 pm
    • Clobbers first-inning homer
Perez went 1-for-2 with a two-run home run during Thursday's 2-1 win over the Blue Jays.

Advice: Although Thursday's game was called after five innings due to poor weather, Perez managed to make an impact, swatting a game-deciding, two-run shot off Jose Berrios in the first frame. Over the Royals last two series, Perez is batting .435 with eight RBI and one strikeout across 27 plate appearances. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:49 pm

    • Expected back Friday
Merrill (groin) is expected to return to the lineup Friday against the Phillies, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Advice: Merrill was scratched from the lineup ahead of Thursday's 10-9 loss to the Rockies, but his absence was deemed precautionary while he manages a groin issue. The rookie said after the game that feels fine and is adjusting to the rigors of the MLB schedule. While Merrill is expected to return Friday, it will be worth confirming that he's included in the lineup as San Diego opens a three-game series with Philadelphia. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 6:46 pm

    • Heating up at plate
Devers went 3-for-5 with a run scored in Thursday's 6-4 loss to Cleveland.

Advice: Devers produced a second consecutive three-hit effort after missing five games with a knee injury. He's gone 6-for-9 with a double, home run, two RBI and two runs scored in his two games back. The downtime appears to have given the balky shoulder he was dealing with during Boston's homestand last week time to heal, but Devers has yet to resume playing third base. According to Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe, manager Alex Cora said prior to Thursday's game that Devers is likely to remain the Red Sox's designated hitter through Friday before potentially returning to action at third base Saturday versus the Cubs.
