    • Shelled in loss
Lopez (4-3) took the loss Monday against Washington, allowing seven runs on eight hits and one walk over five innings. He struck out five.

Advice: Lopez was done in by the long ball, yielding two homers in a game for the second time this season. The Minnesota right-hander entered 2024 with a career 1.1 HR/9 and now sports a 1.5 HR/9 in 55.1 innings this season. Lopez's ERA sits at 4.72, almost a full tick higher than his career 3.86 mark entering the season. He is tentatively scheduled to make his next start against Texas at home this weekend. • Expected to miss 2-to-4 weeks
Rays manager Kevin Cash said Monday that he expects Eflin (back) to remain on the 15-day injured list for 2-to-4 weeks, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Advice: Eflin landed on the IL on Monday with a lower-back injury that he felt crop up toward the end of his most recent start Saturday. The right-hander said it feels similar to an injury that cost him two weeks last season. While the hope is that the absence will be similar in length this time around, Eflin's manager has allowed for the possibility for it to be a bit longer. Rotowire.com Monday, 1:13 pm

    • Rays place Zach Eflin on IL with back injury
Rays placed RHP Zach Eflin (lower back inflammation) on the 15-day injured list.

Advice: Eflin had a shaky start on Saturday, allowing four runs over six innings against the Blue Jays. Perhaps his back was an issue then. The Rays made his IL designation retroactive to Sunday, but he will still miss at least two starts as he recovers. The 30-year-old has a 4.12 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, and a 44/4 K/BB ratio across 59 innings but it’s unclear who will take his spot in the rotation, but perhaps the Rays will opt to bring Ryan Pepiot back from his leg injury without a rehab assignment. • Placed on IL with back injury
The Rays placed Eflin on the 15-day injured list Monday, retroactive to May 19, with lower-back inflammation, Tricia Whitaker of Bally Sports Sun reports.

Advice: Eflin last pitched Saturday in Toronto, allowing four runs over six innings. It's not clear whether he developed the injury during that outing or another time, but either way he will be sidelined for at least the next two weeks. Ryan Pepiot (leg) is expected back from the IL this week and can slide into Eflin's rotation spot. Rotowire.com Monday, 11:35 am

    • Takes another loss
Civale (2-4) took the loss Sunday against the Blue Jays, allowing five runs (four earned) on six hits and four walks over 5.1 innings. He struck out three.

Advice: Civale allowed five or more runs for the fourth time this season and yielded a solo home run to Daniel Vogelbach in the second inning. During his last six starts, Civale is 0-3 with an 8.48 ERA and a 26:12 K:BB across 32.2 innings. He's tentatively scheduled for a start during a three-game home series against the Royals next weekend. Rotowire.com Sunday, 10:01 pm

    • Aaron Civale uneven again in loss
Aaron Civale allowed four earned runs across 5 1/3 innings on Sunday. He walked four and struck out three.

Advice: A popular breakout pick, Civale has not had a good season. Sunday was more of the same as he didn’t miss many bats and just couldn’t get out of innings cleanly. Two of the runs were inherited that came around to score after he exited, there was traffic nearly every frame and it was a marvel he only allowed four earned runs. He will take a 5.92 ERA into his next start at home against the Royals. Rotoworld Sunday, 1:39 pm

    • Shut down from throwing
Bradford (ribs) said Sunday he's been shut down from throwing since he's not recovering as quickly as expected, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports.

Advice: The left-hander apparently wasn't experiencing any pain since recently starting up a throwing program, but his recovery also wasn't moving forward. It's unclear when Bradford is expected to restart the throwing program, and he should be considered out indefinitely until his status is updated. Rotowire.com Sunday, 12:52 pm

    • On track for Tuesday
Musgrove (elbow) is listed as the Padres' probable starter for Tuesday's game against the Reds.

Advice: The veteran right-hander was originally expected to return from the 15-day injured list to start Sunday in Atlanta, but Yu Darvish is now pitching that contest following Saturday's postponement. Musgrove will return from elbow inflammation without going on a rehab assignment, so he could have some minor workload limitations in his first start back. Rotowire.com Sunday, 9:44 am
    • Joe Musgrove (triceps) likely to start Tuesday
Joe Musgrove (triceps) won’t be activated off the injured list Sunday.

Advice: Instead, Musgrove is likely to start Tuesday against the Reds. The right-hander was scheduled to come off the injured list Sunday from his triceps injury, but with Saturday’s game being postponed due to rain, the Padres will push back Musgrove’s return to the mound a couple of days.
