    • Zach Eflin gives up three runs in defeat
Zach Eflin dropped to 1-4 after giving up three runs in 5 2/3 innings Wednesday against the Brewers.

Advice: Eflin struck out six and walked none. The big blow was a William Contreras two-run double on a pitch a good four inches inside with two outs in the second. Another batter likely would have fouled that one off, but Contreras is just too good. Fortunately, Eflin won’t face anyone like him with the White Sox coming to town next week. • Falls to Milwaukee
Eflin (1-4) took the loss Wednesday against the Brewers, allowing three runs on six hits over 5.2 innings. He struck out six.

Advice: Eflin allowed a two-run double to William Contreras in the third inning before allowing a solo homer to Willy Adames in the sixth. The 30-year-old Eflin's now been stuck with a loss in consecutive starts -- he's allowed seven earned runs over 11.2 innings in that span. Eflin's ERA is now up to 4.17 with a 1.17 WHIP and 36:4 K:BB in seven starts this year. He'll look to get back on track in his next outing, currently scheduled for next week against the White Sox. • Out to 90 feet Tuesday
Luzardo (elbow) will extend his catch out to 90 feet Tuesday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Working his way back from a mild left flexor strain, Luzardo played catch Monday and will do so for a second straight day Tuesday. He will continue with a throwing progression as tolerated. Luzardo is eligible to return May 10, but there's no firm timetable for his potential activation yet. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 1:34 pm

    • MRI reveals left flexor muscle strain for Luzardo
An MRI revealed that Jesús Luzardo is dealing with a left flexor muscle strain.

Advice: Luzardo has been placed on the injured list due to left elbow tightness, but now there’s more specifics. The left-hander was able to play catch Monday,a and that along with no structural damage is good news. Assuming no setbacks, there’s a chance Luzardo will only miss a couple starts before returning in May. Rotoworld Monday, 1:27 pm

    • Diagnosed with mild flexor strain
Luzardo was diagnosed Monday with a mild flexor strain in his left elbow, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Advice: The diagnosis is relatively good news, especially considering that Luzardo was able to play catch Monday, three days after tightness in his pitching arm forced him to the injured list. Luzardo is without a timeline at this stage to return from the IL, but more clarity on that front could come once he advances to the point in his recovery program where he's able to face hitters. • Slated to play catch Monday
Luzardo (elbow) will play catch Monday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Advice: The Marlins haven't provided word regarding the findings of the test results on Luzardo's left elbow from over the weekend, but the fact that he's already been cleared to throw just three days after landing on the 10-day injured list certainly seems like a good sign. Luzardo is eligible to return from the IL on May 10, but it's still too early in his recovery to know whether he might make it back by that date. Rotowire.com Monday, 11:54 am

    • Locks down save Sunday
Ginkel pitched a perfect ninth in Sunday's 3-2 win over the Mariners to earn his fifth save of the year. He struck out one.

Advice: Ginkel made quick work of the Mariners' hitters, needing only nine pitches to get three outs. He began by striking out Jorge Polanco and got the next two batters out on weak contact to shut the door. Ginkel has stepped up well in the closer role with Paul Sewald (oblique) on the mend, posting a 3.00 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 13:3 K:BB in 12 innings. Sewald recently suffered a minor setback in his recovery, meaning Ginkel will have the closer job for a little while longer. Rotowire.com Monday, 3:00 am

    • Earns ugly win
Lopez (2-2) allowed four runs on four hits and a walk in five innings Sunday, striking out eight and picking up a win over the Angels.

Advice: Lopez tossed four shutout frames before the Angels caught fire in the fifth inning, plating four runs. Three of those runs came via back-to-back homers by Luis Rengifo and Nolan Schanuel. Lopez forced 13 whiffs after totaling just five in his last outing against the White Sox. Still, he saw his ERA climb to 4.83 through six starts. Lopez is currently in line for a home matchup with Boston next weekend. Rotowire.com Sunday, 6:47 pm

    • Pablo López defeats Angels to improve to 2-2
Pablo López picked up his second victory of the 2024 season on Sunday, limiting the Angels to four runs on four hits over his five innings of work.

Advice: López punched out eight batters on the afternoon while allowing only one base on balls. He kept the Angels off the board completely through the first four innings, but they saddled him with four runs in the fifth — courtesy of home runs from Luis Rengifo and Nolan Schanuel. López generated 13 swings and misses on 87 pitches in the contest, posting a strong CSW of 29 percent. He now holds a 4.83 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and a 37/7 K/BB ratio over 31 2/3 innings through his first six starts on the season. He’ll do battle against the Red Sox his next time out at home on Saturday.
