    • Locks down save Sunday
Ginkel pitched a perfect ninth in Sunday's 3-2 win over the Mariners to earn his fifth save of the year. He struck out one.

Advice: Ginkel made quick work of the Mariners' hitters, needing only nine pitches to get three outs. He began by striking out Jorge Polanco and got the next two batters out on weak contact to shut the door. Ginkel has stepped up well in the closer role with Paul Sewald (oblique) on the mend, posting a 3.00 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 13:3 K:BB in 12 innings. Sewald recently suffered a minor setback in his recovery, meaning Ginkel will have the closer job for a little while longer. Rotowire.com Monday, 3:00 am

    • Kevin Ginkel locks down fifth save on Sunday
Kevin Ginkel locked down his fifth save of the season on Sunday, working a scoreless ninth inning to preserve a one-run lead against the Mariners.

Advice: Ginkel made it look awfully easy in this one, getting Jorge Polanco on a called third strike, Ty France on a bouncer back to the mound and Mitch Garver on a fly ball to left to end it. He has done a nice job in the absence of closer Paul Sewald, compiling a 3.00 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and a 13/3 K/BB ratio over 12 innings while converting five of his first seven save chances. Sewald suffered a minor setback over the weekend, meaning Ginkel should continue to function in the team’s closer role for at least another week — possibly longer. Rotoworld Sunday, 4:12 pm

    • Kirby Yates picks up fifth save versus Reds
Kirby Yates turned in a scoreless ninth against the Reds for his fifth save on Sunday.

Advice: Yates gave up a single and a walk, but he was able to strike out Jeimer Candelario and get a lineout to third from Luke Maile to end the game. He still hasn’t allowed a run in 12 innings this year. Rotoworld Sunday, 3:42 pm

    • Remains spotless, grabs fifth save
Yates earned a save after he pitched a scoreless ninth inning, allowing one hit and a walk while striking out a batter in Sunday's 4-3 win over the Reds.

Advice: Yates was called upon to protect the team's 4-3 lead in the top of the ninth inning, working around a pair of baserunners to secure his fifth save of the season. The right-hander has now gone 5-for-5 in save opportunities this season while he has pitched 12 scoreless frames over his first 11 appearances in 2024. On top of the spotless ERA, Yates also owns a sparkling 0.50 WHIP with a 10.5 K/9, and he appears to be locked in as the Rangers' closer moving forward. Rotowire.com Sunday, 2:43 pm

    • Picks up fourth save
Yates struck out two batters in a perfect ninth inning to earn the save in Friday's 2-1 win over the Reds.

Advice: Yates struck out Jonathan India and Jeimer Candelario to begin the ninth, giving him 13 punchouts in 11 innings out of the bullpen. The 37-year-old righty still has yet to allow a run this season, and he'll likely continue receiving the bulk of save opportunities as long as that remains the case. • Kirby Yates throws perfect ninth for save
Kirby Yates struck out two in a perfect ninth Friday for a save against the Reds.

Advice: It was Yates’ first appearance since his save Sunday. He threw 14 pitches tonight, so he should be available again Saturday. David Robertson could also be a threat for a save then, but Yates is the clear favorite in Texas right now. Rotoworld Friday, 11:22 pm

    • Cody Bradford (rib) diagnosed with stress fracture
Rangers manager Bruce Bochy told reporters on Friday that Cody Bradford has been diagnosed with a stress fracture in his rib.

Advice: That explains why the 26-year-old southpaw hasn’t progressed as quickly as the Rangers had hoped in his recovery from a sore lower back. He’s expected to miss at least a month’s worth of action. By the time he’s ready to return, it seems unlikely that there will be a spot for him in the Rangers’ rotation if everyone else is able to stay healthy. Rotoworld Friday, 2:23 pm

    • Managing rib stress fracture
Bradford (back) was diagnosed with a stress fracture in his rib Friday and is expected to be sidelined for about a month, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Advice: The left-hander wasn't progressing as expected in his recovery after landing on the shelf April 14 with lower-back soreness, and a rib stress fracture is the apparent culprit. Bradford will now be sidelined through at least late May, and a more specific timeline should come into focus as he ramps up his rehab work. Rotowire.com Friday, 2:16 pm

    • Flawless in save chance
Yates secured a save in Sunday's 6-4 win over Atlanta, striking out one while allowing no baserunners in 1.1 scoreless innings.

Advice: Yates entered in the eighth with Atlanta threatening with two men on and two outs and struck out Orlando Arcia to get out of the jam. The 37-year-old returned for the ninth and retired the side in order to lock down the save. Yates seems to have a firm grip on the closer role for now after picking up three saves and a win over the last week. He's yet to allow a run and has posted a 0.40 WHIP and 11:2 K:BB in 10 innings this year. Rotowire.com Apr 22, 6:19 am
