    • Goes deep in loss
Merrill went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer in Sunday's 11-4 loss to the Diamondbacks.

Advice: Merrill took Ryne Nelson deep to right center in the second to open up the scoring for the Padres and later notched a single off the bat at 102.4 mph. He's now tallied a hit in each of his last three games and has five RBI over that span after going on a mini slump to end the month of April. The 21-year-old rookie has put together some solid numbers at the plate early on, slashing .284/.333/.388 with two homers, 16 RBI, 16 runs, four steals and a 9:20 BB:K in 127 plate appearances. • Jackson Merrill homers in loss to Arizona
Jackson Merrill went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer in a loss to the Diamondbacks.

Advice: The rookie launched a 394-foot home run in the second inning and also had a 102.4 mph single later in the game. Merrill is more of a contact-oriented hitter, so the exit velocities are nice to see as we dream on his power upside. The 21-year-old is slashing .284/.333/.388 with two home runs and 16 RBI on the year. He’s a better real-life player than a fantasy player, but he has enough tools to be a high-floor fantasy asset, especially if you need batting average. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:35 pm
    • Jackson Merrill goes hitless Wednesday in victory
Jackson Merrill went 0-for-4 with a strikeout on Wednesday in the Padres’ win over the Reds.

Advice: Don’t look now, but Merrill has gone 0-for-19 in six contests over the last week. The 21-year-old top prospect looked extremely impressive at the outset of the season in his Padres debut, but has hit a frosty stretch at the dish of late, which also coincides with a nagging groin issue that he’s been playing through. It’s entirely possible he’s not close to 100 percent at the moment, which is impacting his on-field results. Rotoworld Wednesday, 3:46 pm
    • Jackson Merrill not in lineup Monday vs. Reds
Jackson Merrill is not in the starting lineup for Monday’s game against the Reds.

Advice: Merrill returned to the lineup from his groin injury on Saturday and also played Sunday, so this appears to be a day of maintenance for the 21-year-old. Jose Azocar will play center and hit eighth Monday. Rotoworld Monday, 3:52 pm
    • Jackson Merrill (groin) returns to action Saturday
Jackson Merrill (groin) returned to the Padres’ starting lineup on Saturday.

Advice: Merrill missed each of the previous two games due to minor tightness in his right groin. He’s right back out there on Saturday though, starting in center field and batting eighth against Ranger Suarez and the Phillies. The 21-year-old rookie outfielder is hitting an impressive .318/.378/.409 with a homer, 12 RBI and four stolen bases in his first 27 games in the big leagues. Rotoworld Apr 27, 2:20 pm
    • Back in action Saturday
Merrill (groin) is starting in center field and batting eighth Saturday against the Phillies.

Advice: Groin tightness has prevented Merrill from playing in the Padres' last two games, but he is seemingly feeling better heading into Saturday's contest. The 21-year-old is 5-for-18 with four RBI across his last five games, though all five of his hits in that span have been singles. Rotowire.com Apr 27, 1:55 pm
    • Not starting Friday
Merrill (groin) is not in the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Phillies, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Advice: Merrill was taken out of the lineup ahead of Thursday's loss to the Rockies as a precaution, and he was expected to be back Friday, per Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune. It appears the groin injury is still lingering, however, and the rookie outfielder will not start for a second consecutive game. With Merrill out of the lineup, Jose Azocar will start in center field, Jurickson Profar will be in left field and Manny Machado will make his return from his paternity leave to start at third base. • Jackson Merrill (groin) remains out of lineup
Jackson Merrill (groin) remained out of the Padres’ starting lineup for Friday night’s game against the Phillies.

Advice: The 21-year-old outfielder had portrayed optimism that him being held out of the lineup on Thursday was a precautionary measure and that he wouldn’t be forced to miss any extended time. Hopefully that’s still the case, but it’s a bit discouraging to see him held out once more. Jose Azocar will start in his place in center field and will bat ninth against Aaron Nola and the Phillies on Friday night. Rotoworld Apr 26, 2:26 pm
