      Charlie Morton gave up two runs in six innings against the Dodgers on Friday while not factoring into the decision.

      Advice: Morton continues his good run, but it comes without a win as Atlanta didn’t provide him the necessary run support. The right-hander lowered his season ERA to 3.50 while scattering five hits with two walks and five strikeouts. Morton didn’t look good in the middle of April, but the 40-year-old has been a very strong option outside of those two outings where he gave up 12 of the 14 runs he’s given up in 2024.     • Cole Irvin turns in another scoreless start in win
      Cole Irvin allowed only a pair of hits over 6 1/3 innings Friday in the Orioles’ 3-0 shutout of the Reds.

      Advice: It’s Irvin’s third straight scoreless start. His stint in the rotation figured to be a short one with Kyle Bradish and John Means on the IL to open the year, but he’s gained a reprieve with Grayson Rodriguez and Tyler Wells going down and he’s making the most of it, having gone 3-1 with a 2.86 ERA to date.     • Hunter Greene goes 5 2/3 scoreless for Reds
      Hunter Greene blanked the Orioles for 5 2/3 innings in a no-decision Friday.

      Advice: Greene, who also pitched shutout ball last time out, lowered his ERA to 3.12. Still, the Reds are somehow 1-6 when he pitches this season, despite being 15-10 the rest of the time.       Advice: Greene had to contend with some traffic Friday, though he'd ultimately make it through 5.2 innings unscathed. The right-hander fell an out shy of a quality start, though it's his second consecutive scoreless outing -- he blanked the Rangers over seven innings in his last start. Overall, Greene's 1-2 with a 3.12 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 47:16 K:BB through 40.1 innings. He's tentatively lined up for a home matchup with the Diamondbacks in his next start.       Irvin (3-1) earned the win Friday over the Reds, allowing just two hits while striking out four over 6.1 scoreless innings.

      Advice: Irvin continued his dominant run Friday -- he's now won three consecutive starts while extending his scoreless-inning streak to 20.2. The 30-year-old left-hander's ERA is down to 2.86 with a 1.07 WHIP and 22:7 K:BB across six starts (34.2 innings) this season.     • Steven Kwan reaches base three times in loss
      Steven Kwan went 2-for-3 with a pair of singles and a walk as the Guardians were shut out by the Angels on Friday night.

      Advice: As a team, the Guardians were only able to muster six hits and a pair of walks on the night, so Kwan definitely did his part. He has been a tremendous catalyst atop the Guardians’ lineup this season, slashing a robust .356/.406/.500 with three homers, 11 RBI and three stolen bases through his first 31 ballgames.       Manager Alex Cora said Friday that Pivetta (elbow) does not need to make another rehab start, Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reports.

      Advice: Pivetta surrendered four runs over three-plus innings during his lone rehab start at Triple-A Worcester on Thursday. Despite his subpar performance, the Red Sox will waste no time returning the 31-year-old right-hander to their rotation, which has already been hit hard by injuries this season.
