• Dakota Hudson fades in 5th vs Giants
Dakota Hudson allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits in 4 2/3 in a loss to the Giants on Sunday.

Advice: Hudson had allowed no runs on two hits through his first four innings and then bad luck struck in the fifth. After walking the lead-off hitter, he allowed two infield singles, a fielder’s choice, and an error, which scored three runs and chased him from the game. He didn’t miss many bats with a 14 percent whiff rate and 22 percent CSW and remains a low-upside fantasy option that you should not start at home against the Phillies next week. • Jordan Hicks’ velocity is way down in win
Jordan Hicks allowed one run on three hits in five innings in a win over the Rockies on Sunday.

Advice: The big news here is that Hicks averaged just 91.7 mph on his sinker after averaging 95.3 mph on the year. In fact, he was down 2.5 mph or more on every single one of his pitches in this start, which is part of the reason why he struck out just one batter. Of course, because he was facing the Rockies, he wasn’t saddled with that much damage. It will be interesting to hear what the Giants have to say about the performance or if it was just an off night for the oft-injured right-hander. Provided he’s healthy, he would have another good start lined up against the Mets next week. Rotoworld 20 minutes ago

  • Carlos Rodón goes six in defeating former team
Carlos Rodón pitched six innings of two-run ball and struck out six Sunday as the Yankees topped the White Sox 7-2.

Advice: Rodón got 23 missed swings today, with seven of those coming on the 18 changeups he threw. Rodón had been throwing the changeup just six percent of the time this season, and if he can continue to get results with that pitch, he’ll be considerably more dangerous. As is, Rodón is already 5-2 with a 3.27 ERA. Still, his peripherals haven’t backed up the ERA to date. Rotoworld Today, 2:50 pm
  • Chris Flexen pounded for seven runs by Yankees
Chris Flexen was tagged for seven runs in four-plus innings by the Yankees on Sunday.

Advice: Flexen got Yankee Stadiumed in a big way; the three-run homer he gave up to Jon Berti was a homer in two ballparks and Aaron Judge’s two-run shot, projected at 339 feet, was an out in every other ballpark. That’s not to say Flexen would have been good in another location, but it wouldn’t have been this ugly. Rotoworld Today, 2:50 pm

  • Brady Singer strikes out nine, earns win
Brady Singer pitched six innings on Sunday in the Royals 9-4 win over the A’s. He struck out nine, walked one, allowed one earned run, and scattered six hits in a win.

Advice: Singer has been fantastic this season, leaning on his excellent slider as his primary pitch. He threw it 49% of the time on Sunday and it induced eight whiffs. He’s done well in putting his dismal 2023 behind him and will take a 2.70 ERA into his next start on Saturday in Tampa Bay. Rotoworld Today, 2:41 pm
  • JP Sears chased in fifth inning
JP Sears allowed four earned runs in 4 ⅓ innings on Sunday in a loss. He struck out four, walked two, and the Royals had five hits off him.

Advice: The Royals were all over Sears on Sunday hitting four of their first five balls in play at least 95 MPH. He had been pitched well in May, but faltered in this one leaving too many balls in the heart of the zone. Rotoworld Today, 2:37 pm
  • José Soriano stymies Rangers in win on Sunday
José Soriano allowed one run on five hits in 7 2/3 innings in a win over the Rangers.

Advice: Soriano also walked just two and struck out five on the day. The only major blemish for the 25-year-old was a solo home run to Corey Seager in the fourth inning. It certainly wasn’t a dominant effort as he posted a fine 18 percent whiff rate and 25 percent CSW and allowed eight hard-hit baseballs, but he was able to work out of damage and that’s all that matters at the end of the day. He’ll now carry a 3.30 ERA into a matchup against the Guardians and is a fine streaming option for that one. Rotoworld Today, 2:31 pm
  • Lorenzen let down by bullpen against Angels
Michael Lorenzen allowed two runs on three hits in 6 1/3 innings in a loss to the Angels on Sunday.

Advice: Lorenzen had allowed just two hits in six shutout innings before allowing a lead-off double and a walk to start the seventh. He was able to strike out his last batter, so he left the Rangers with first and second and one out. The Angels would score four runs in that inning with two of them being charged to Lorenzen. The right-hander posted a solid 21 percent whiff rate and mediocre 24 percent CSW while allowing an average exit velocity of just 76 mph. He deserved better and will hope for more help next week against the Twins. Rotoworld Today, 2:28 pm
  • Aaron Nola goes seven in victory over Nationals
Aaron Nola lasted seven innings and allowed three runs Sunday in beating the Nationals.

Advice: A strong followup to his shutout of the Mets. Nola gave up just two hits, which were homers to Eddie Rosario and Jesse Winker. He’s completed seven innings in five of his last seven starts, and he’s 6-2 with a 3.05 ERA for the season. Rotoworld Today, 2:20 pm
