• Receiving breather Monday
Newman is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Giants.

Advice: Though he's coming off a productive weekend against the Mets in which he went 4-for-14 with a walk, a stolen base, three runs and an RBI in the four-game series, Newman will get a much-needed breather. Newman had started at shortstop in each of Arizona's last 21 games, but he'll give way to Blaze Alexander on Monday. Rotowire.com Monday, 3:36 pm

  • Report: Tucupita Marcano faces gambling ban
Tucupita Marcano could receive a lifetime ban from MLB for betting on baseball, ESPN’s Jeff Passan reports.

Advice: That’d be awfully unfortunate for Marcano, a 24-year-old who has been out since last August due to a torn ACL and was slated to resume playing in minor league games sometime soon. Marcano hit .217/.269/.320 in 447 at-bats for the Padres and Pirates from 2021-23. Rotoworld Monday, 1:15 pm

  • Facing possible ban for gambling
Major League Baseball is currently investigating Marcano (knee) for a violation of the sport's gambling policy, which could result in a lifetime ban, Jared Diamond and Lindsey Adler of The Wall Street Journal Report report.

Advice: According to the report, four other minor-league players are under investigation along with Marcano, a 24-year-old infielder who has been on the Padres' 10-day injured list all season while he completes his recovery from a torn ACL. Per Jeff Passan of ESPN.com, while MLB's investigation isn't yet complete, a penalty for Marcano could be imposed in the coming days. Marcano has seen big-league action in each of the previous three seasons as a member of the Padres and Pirates, slashing .217/.269/.320 with five home runs and seven stolen bases across 447 career plate appearances. • Clubs third home run
Caballero went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and two runs scored Sunday against the Orioles.

Advice: Caballero belted the first pitch of the seventh inning over the left-field wall for his third homer of the year. It was also his second hit of the day, representing his ninth multi-hit game in 54 games this season. The performance raised Caballero's average to .260 with three homers, 18 RBI, 27 runs and 20 steals in 28 attempts. Rotowire.com Sunday, 5:32 pm
  • José Caballero goes 2-for-3, homers in Rays’ win
José Caballero went 2-for-3 with a homer Sunday as the Rays edged the Orioles 4-3.

Advice: Caballero has been a strikeout machine of late, but he managed to go without one for just the second time in 18 games today. He’s batting .260/.318/.370 on the season, but it just doesn’t seem likely that he’ll keep his average up like this with how often he fails to make contact. He currently has a .367 BABIP in spite of some of the weakest exit velocity numbers in the game. Rotoworld Sunday, 1:47 pm
  • Getting fourth straight start
Duran will start at first base and bat eighth in Sunday's game against the Marlins.

Advice: Duran will stay in the lineup for a fourth straight game, with two starts coming against left-handed pitchers and two coming versus righties. While Evan Carter (back) is on the injured list, Duran looks to be a priority for the final spot in the Texas lineup over the likes of Robbie Grossman and Travis Jankowski. • Sitting after two straight starts
McKinstry is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Red Sox.

Advice: McKinstry picked up starts at shortstop and second base Friday and Saturday, respectively, going 1-for-6 with a double. Though both Colt Keith (.594 OPS) and Javier Baez (.481 OPS) have turned in poor numbers as the Tigers' regular starters in the middle infield this season, McKinstry (.499 OPS in 91 plate appearances) hasn't done much to make a case for steadier playing time. • Slump continues Saturday
Baez went 0-for-3 with a strikeout in Saturday's 6-3 loss to the Red Sox, dropping his season batting average to .190.

Advice: It looked like Baez was maybe turning things around when he recorded seven hits across two games on May 17 and 18. However, he's gone just 4-for-33 in nine games since then, and he's hitless over his last three contests. The shortstop's .190 average would be his worst since he batted .169 across 52 games as a 21-year-old rookie back in 2014. Baez's time in Detroit has been disastrous so far, and it doesn't appear it'll get much better anytime soon. Rotowire.com Sunday, 5:54 am
  • Rehabbing in ACL
Perdomo (knee) started at shortstop and went 1-for-3 with a run scored in a rehab game for the Diamondbacks' rookie-level Arizona Complex League affiliate Saturday.

Advice: Perdomo, who played five innings in the field, made his second ACL appearance after getting four at-bats Friday as the designated hitter. The organization's plan calls for Perdomo to finish out the weekend in the ACL before moving on to a higher-level affiliate. A return from the 10-day injured list later in the week is a possibility.
