• Getting additional opinions
Nelson is receiving additional opinions on his injured left shoulder before the Diamondbacks decide the next steps to take, Theo Mackie of The Arizona Republic reports.

Advice: Nelson landed on the injured list nearly a week ago with what was deemed left shoulder inflammation at the time, but it sounds like he might be dealing with something more serious. More information on his status could be available later this week. Rotowire.com 35 minutes ago

  • Starting throwing program
Frias (shoulder) will begin a throwing program this week, Theo Mackie of The Arizona Republic reports.

Advice: Frias has been on the shelf for nearly two weeks with right shoulder inflammation but appears to be progressing. He had been optioned before that was rescinded and he was placed on the injured list, so the righty could be headed to Triple-A Reno rather than the majors once he's healthy. • Kyle Nelson (shoulder) visits with doctor
Kyle Nelson (shoulder) visited Dr. Gregory Pearl for a consultation.

Advice: If Pearl’s name sounds familiar, he’s well-known for being one of the leading surgeons that perform operations for Thoracic Outlet Syndrome. The right-hander has been on the injured list since Tuesday with shoulder inflammation, and the consultation will likely determine whether or not Nelson needs to have an operation performed. • Set to start throwing program
Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said Monday that Castro (shoulder) will begin his throwing program this week, Theo Mackie of The Arizona Republic reports.

Advice: Castro landed on the 15-day injured list Tuesday -- retroactive to April 21 -- due to right shoulder inflammation. He posted a 5.19 ERA and 1.50 WHIP over 8.2 innings prior to being placed on IL. The 29-year-old right-hander is eligible to be activated May 6, but he could stay on the IL past that date depending on how he progresses in his throwing program. Rotowire.com 42 minutes ago

  • Nearing mound work
Middleton (forearm) could throw a bullpen session later this week, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Advice: Middleton recently did some long-tossing without issue and is almost ready to throw from a mound for the first time since going down with a right forearm strain in mid-March. Because he's missed so much time, the veteran reliever would figure to need multiple rehab appearances, once he's cleared for game action. Rotowire.com 57 minutes ago

  • Faces live hitters Saturday
Kahnle (shoulder) threw 15 pitches against live hitters Saturday, Max Goodman of The Newark Star-Ledger reports.

Advice: Kahnle began throwing bullpens April 12, and he has now progressed to live throwing sessions. The right-hander is expected to face live hitters again early this week, and he could go on a minor-league rehab assignment soon thereafter. Rotowire.com Today, 3:02 pm

  • Davis Daniel back up from Triple-A Salt Lake
Angels recalled RHP Davis Daniel from Triple-A Salt Lake.

Advice: Daniel made five starts in the Pacific Coast League and posted a 6.08 ERA and 1.77 WHIP over 23.2 innings. Zac Kristofak was optioned to Triple-A in the corresponding move. It goes without saying that Daniel isn’t a fantasy-relevant player at this stage. Rotoworld Today, 2:39 pm

  • Brought back to big club
The Angels recalled Daniel from Triple-A Salt Lake on Monday.

Advice: Daniel was optioned to Triple-A during spring training. He's started in five games with Salt Lake, going 0-3 while recording a 6.08 ERA, 1.81 WHIP and 26:8 K:BB over 23.2 innings. To make room for Daniel in the bullpen, the Angels optioned right-hander Zac Kristofak to Triple-A Salt Lake following Sunday's loss to the Twins. Rotowire.com Today, 2:32 pm

  • Cardinals-Tigers postponed
Matz and the Cardinals won't play Monday against the Tigers after the game was postponed due to inclement weather in Detroit.

Advice: The game will be made up as part of a traditional doubleheader Tuesday. As a result of the postponement, Matz will likely just be pushed back one day in the pitching schedule to start one half of Tuesday's twin bill. Rotowire.com Today, 1:56 pm
