• Goes five innings in rehab start
Silseth (elbow) struck out four and allowed three earned runs on seven hits and three walks over five innings in his rehab start Sunday with Triple-A Salt Lake.

Advice: Making the fourth start of his rehab assignment and his second in a row with Salt Lake, Silseth built up to 78 pitches. Though he threw only 47 strikes, issued three free passes and uncorked one wild pitch, Silseth's outing still represented a step forward from his last rehab start Tuesday, when he walked five over 2.2 innings. According to MLB.com, Angels manager Ron Washington said that Silseth could return from the 60-day injured list to make his next appearance with the big club, though a decision on that front will depend on how the right-hander feels physically coming out of the Triple-A start. • José Suarez gives up five runs to take loss
José Suarez gave up five runs while getting just three outs Sunday to take a loss to the Giants.

Advice: Suarez took over in the third after Ben Joyce pitched two scoreless innings and actually opened up with a scoreless frame. Alas, he got no one out in the fourth, and he and Hunter Strickland combined to give up nine runs, quickly turning this one into a laugher. Suarez has an 8.15 ERA in 35 1/3 innings this season. It wouldn’t be any sort of surprise to see him DFA’d in the coming days. Rotoworld Sunday, 5:17 pm

  • Opening Sunday's contest
Miller will serve as the Giants' opening pitcher for Sunday's game against the Angels, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Miller will draw the opener assignment for the fifth time this season after the Giants had previously listed Kyle Harrison as the starter for Sunday's contest before placing him on the 15-day injured list with an ankle sprain just a few hours before the 4:05 p.m. ET opening pitch. Miller hasn't been tasked with recording more than five outs in any of his previous turns as an opener, so he shouldn't be expected to handle more than two innings before he turns the game over to the bullpen. Spencer Bivens was called up from Triple-A Sacramento on Sunday and could be an option to cover multiple innings behind Miller. Rotowire.com Sunday, 10:09 am

  • Cut by Giants
The Giants released Avila (undisclosed) on Sunday.

Advice: Avila will cede his spot on the Giants' 40-man roster to right-hander Spencer Bivens, whose contract was selected from Triple-A Sacramento. Rather than designating Avila for assignment and waiting for the waiver process to play out, the Giants will part ways with the 26-year-old right-hander and allow him to get a head start on finding his next organization. Avila had posted an 8.49 ERA and 1.71 WHIP over his 11.2 innings with the Giants this season and hadn't performed much better for Sacramento (6.75 ERA, 1.21 WHIP in 9.1 innings) before landing on the club's 7-day injured list May 31 with an unspecified injury. • Erik Miller starting for Giants on Sunday
Erik Miller will start Sunday’s game against the Angels.

Advice: It will be bullpen games for both the Angels and Giants. Miller is getting the ball with Kyle Harrison (ankle) heading to the injured list. He likely won’t work deep enough to qualify for a win, so there’s no reason to consider him as a streaming option. Rotoworld Sunday, 9:46 am

  • Making fourth rehab start Sunday
Silseth (elbow) will make a rehab start for Triple-A Salt Lake on Sunday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

Advice: In the third start of his rehab assignment this past Tuesday, Silseth built up to 71 pitches, but he was blitzed for six earned runs on four hits and five walks while lasting just 2.2 innings for Salt Lake. Though Silseth appears to be fully stretched out for a traditional starting role at this point, the Angels will likely want to see him execute better at Triple-A before bringing him back in the rotation. If Silseth can keep the free passes in check Sunday, he could get the green light to return from the 60-day injured list for next weekend's Freeway Series against the Dodgers. • Could join Brewers next week
Junis (shoulder) will pitch another sim game in Arizona on Monday before potentially joining the Brewers roster, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

Advice: The Brewers embark on a seven-game West Coast road trip Monday, playing three games in Los Angeles and four in San Diego. Already in Arizona, Junis could rejoin the team during that stretch, though it's unclear if he'd immediately return to the rotation or would be eased in with a bullpen role. The 31-year-old was moved to Arizona from Triple-A Nashville due to velocity concerns and most recently threw a four-inning simulated game Wednesday. Rotowire.com Friday, 2:49 pm

  • Earns win Thursday
Miller (4-4) allowed a run on one hit across 1.1 innings of relief but managed to earn the win Thursday against the Nationals.

Advice: Miller was charged with his fifth blown save of the season but picked up the win since the Tigers scored five times in the bottom of the seventh inning. The veteran righty has been mostly solid this season, compiling a 3.80 ERA and 20 strikeouts across 21.1 innings. Miller would have more fantasy value if he was seeing regular save opportunities, though he has some appeal in deeper formats given his high-leverage role. Rotowire.com Thursday, 7:33 pm
  • Moving into rotation Monday
Reds manager David Bell said Spiers will start Monday's game in Pittsburgh, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Advice: Spiers was called up from Triple-A Louisville last Sunday and was immediately put to work in long relief later that day in the Reds' series finale against the Cubs. With starter Frankie Montas getting chased from the game midway through the top of the second, Spiers stepped in and struck out seven batters over 5.2 shutout innings while allowing just six baserunners. Prior to the call-up, Spiers had already been stretched out as a starter at Louisville and compiled a 2.51 ERA and 1.06 WHIP across 46.2 innings, and on the heels of his impressive showing out of the bullpen, he'll now get a chance to fill the opening in the big-league rotation that was created by Graham Ashcraft's recent demotion. Nick Martinez had worked as a primary pitcher behind an opener the last time Ashcraft's turn came up Tuesday versus the Guardians, but he'll presumably move into a more traditional bullpen role now that Spiers has been awarded a start.
