  • Sixto Sánchez is inconsisent in start
    Sixto Sánchez allowed two runs on three hits in four innings in a no-decision against the A’s.

    Advice: Sánchez also walked three and struck out two. Somehow, he was the better of the two starters on the night. He had just a 17 percent whiff rate and his four-seam fastball velocity was down two mph from his previous outing. Sánchez has a 7.50 ERA and should not be on fantasy rosters, especially since he is likely losing his spot in the Marlins rotation. Rotoworld 13 minutes ago
     
  • Joe Boyle only lasts one inning in start
    Joe Boyle allowed four runs on one hit and three walks in one inning in a loss to the Marlins on Sunday.

    Advice: Boyle threw 35 pitches and just 16 of them were for strikes. He walked the first three batters to start the game, then gave up a fielder’s choice and a three-run homer. While he got out of the inning, he did not return for the second. So far on the season, Boyle has allowed 24 walks in just 27 2/3 innings to go along with a 7.16 ERA. He should not be rostered in fantasy leagues and is a perfect example of why we shouldn’t overreact to the stats from a few spring training performances. Rotoworld 16 minutes ago

  • Mike Clevinger could start for White Sox on Monday
    Mike Clevinger is tentatively scheduled to make his 2024 season debut on Monday against the Rays.

    Advice: The White Sox have yet to confirm anything, and have Monday’s starter listed as TBD, but barring something unexpected it sounds like the 33-year-old right-hander will get the ball. The 33-year-old right-hander has only logged 7 1/3 innings through two starts at Triple-A Charlotte, so he shouldn’t be expected to work too deeply in Monday’s matchup against the Rays if he does indeed get the ball.     Santana allowed one hit in one scoreless inning to earn the save during Sunday's 5-2 win over the Tigers. He struck out two.

    Advice: Santana tossed his sixth-consecutive scoreless outing and was credited with his second save when the game was called after eight innings due to rain. Had the game completed a full nine innings, it is likely that the Yankees' regular closer Clay Holmes would have earned the nod despite having thrown 15 pitches to close out Saturday's contest.   • Blanks Rangers over five frames
    Lynch tossed five scoreless innings, walking two batters and allowing two hits while striking out six in Sunday's 3-2 extra-inning loss to the Rangers. He did not factor into the decision.

    Advice: Lynch was promoted from Triple-A Omaha ahead of Sunday's start and he certainly stepped up his game, blanking the defending champs over five frames. The left-hander was able to work around three baserunners in the first inning to set the tone and ultimately went on to pitch four more scoreless innings in his first major-league outing of the year. Lynch could remain in the starting rotation for Kansas City for the time being with Alec Marsh (elbow) still unavailable.     Canning (1-4) took the loss Sunday against Cleveland, allowing two runs on four hits and a walk across six innings. He struck out five.

    Advice: Canning kept a clean sheet until the sixth inning when Jose Ramirez launched a two-run home run to cap off a 10-pitch at-bat. The long ball was the first Griffin has surrendered in over 20 innings, dating back to an April 13 start against Boston. Griffin completed six innings for the first time all year, notching a quality start and giving up five or fewer hits for a fourth straight outing. he's set up to face the Royals on Friday.     Carrasco (2-2) earned the win Sunday, allowing one run on six hits and two walks over six innings against the Angels. He struck out three.

    Advice: Carrasco got back on track with his first quality start of 2024, rebounding from a pair of poor starts leading up to the outing where he combined for 13 earned runs over nine innings. If you erase Carrasco's two-start hiccup, he owns a 2.92 era over 24.2 innings with a 19:14 K:BB.   • MacKenzie Gore gives up grand slam in poor outing
    MacKenzie Gore lasted only three innings and allowed six runs — two earned — and six hits Sunday against the Blue Jays.

    Advice: It was Gore’s own error that led to all of the unearned runs. Gore’s secondary pitches weren’t working today; he got just one missed swing on his 32 non-fastballs, and it was a changeup, after three straight fastballs, that Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit for a grand slam in the second.   • Alek Manoah tagged for seven runs in 2024 debut
    Making his 2024 debut, Alek Manoah gave up seven runs — six earned — in four innings Sunday against the Nationals.

    Advice: Manoah issued a bases-loaded walk in the first, but that run was unearned because of an error to start the inning. He later gave up a homer in the third and five runs after recording the second out of the fourth. The good news is that Manoah had really strong velocity today — his 94.3 mph average on his fastball was up 1.5 mph from last year and also little better than his 2022 average — and he was able to strike out six batters.
