    • Jared Jones manages just three strikeouts in loss
Jared Jones took a loss to the Giants after allowing three runs in five innings Sunday.

Advice: Jones had struck out at least seven in all five of his starts to date, but he fanned just three today, and he seemed to tire out quickly, with his last three fastballs in the fifth coming in at 94.4, 93.3 and 93.8 mph. That’s from a guy averaging 97.4 mph on the season. The loss leaves him 2-3 in spite of a 3.18 ERA. He should bounce back in a home start versus the Rockies next weekend. • Stumbles in San Francisco
Jones (2-3) allowed three runs on six hits and a walk over five innings Sunday, striking out three and taking a loss against the Giants.

Advice: All three runs against Jones scored during a disastrous third inning. He gave up five hits in the frame, including solo homers by Thairo Estrada and Mike Yastrzemski to start things off. Jones' historic strikeout pace slowed down as he forced only seven swinging strikes in the subpar outing. As impressive as the right-handed rookie has been, he's been tagged with seven homers through his first six starts. He'll carry a 3.18 ERA into his next start, which is lined up to be at home against the Rockies. Rotowire.com 24 minutes ago

    • Kirby Yates picks up fifth save versus Reds
Kirby Yates turned in a scoreless ninth against the Reds for his fifth save on Sunday.

Advice: Yates gave up a single and a walk, but he was able to strike out Jeimer Candelario and get a lineout to third from Luke Maile to end the game. He still hasn’t allowed a run in 12 innings this year. Rotoworld 32 minutes ago

    • Remains spotless, grabs fifth save
Yates earned a save after he pitched a scoreless ninth inning, allowing one hit and a walk while striking out a batter in Sunday's 4-3 win over the Reds.

Advice: Yates was called upon to protect the team's 4-3 lead in the top of the ninth inning, working around a pair of baserunners to secure his fifth save of the season. The right-hander has now gone 5-for-5 in save opportunities this season while he has pitched 12 scoreless frames over his first 11 appearances in 2024. On top of the spotless ERA, Yates also owns a sparkling 0.50 WHIP with a 10.50 K/9 and he appears to be locked in as the Rangers' closer moving forward. Rotowire.com Today, 2:43 pm

    • Hit hard in Saturday's loss
Kikuchi (2-2) took the loss Saturday, giving up four runs on nine hits over six innings as the Blue Jays fell 4-2 to the Dodgers. He struck out three without walking a batter.

Advice: While the southpaw managed to keep the ball in the yard, he still gave up some very loud contact, including three extra-base hits and an RBI single by Shohei Ohtani in the second inning that left his bat with a stunning exit velocity of 119.2 mph. Kikuchi saw his quality start streak end at three, but he'll take a strong 2.94 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 36:8 K:BB through 33.2 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come on the road next weekend against the Nationals. • Yusei Kikuchi gives up four runs in loss to Dodgers
Yusei Kikuchi allowed four runs with three strikeouts over six innings in a loss against the Dodgers on Saturday.

Advice: Kikuchi gave up too much contact that found open field against the Dodgers. He allowed a leadoff triple to Mookie Betts to start the game, who then scored on a sacrifice fly. Four base hits in the second inning would bring in two more runs for Los Angeles. Kikuchi worked around a base hit in the third, then gave up a fourth run on two hits in the fourth. He finished strong with pair of clean innings in the fifth and sixth, striking out three on the day. The 32-year-old left-hander will take a 2.94 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, and a 36/8 K/BB ratio across 33 2/3 innings into a road start against the Nationals on Friday. Rotoworld Yesterday, 2:59 pm

    • Rehab start Thursday
Pivetta (elbow) is pencilled in to make a rehab start Thursday, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.

Advice: He threw 50 pitches in a live batting practice session Saturday, so Pivetta may only need one rehab outing before rejoining the big-league rotation. If he does return after Thursday's rehab start, Pivetta would line up to start in the two-game series in Atlanta on either May 8 or May 9. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 1:01 pm

    • Throws 50-pitch session
After throwing a 50-pitch live batting practice session Saturday, Pivetta (elbow) noted that he was able to throw all his pitches and was happy with his outing, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Pivetta continues to make progress in his rehab from a right elbow flexor strain that landed him on the 15-day IL on April 9. Before landing on the IL, Pivetta went 1-1 over two starts, allowing one run on eight hits while striking out 13 over 11 frames. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:53 am

    • Nick Pivetta (elbow) targeting early May return
Nick Pivetta (elbow) faced hitters on Saturday in a live batting practice session.

Advice: The tentative plan is for Pivetta to make a minor league rehab start later next week before returning to Boston’s starting rotation the following week to take the ball during a brief two-game set against the Braves. The 31-year-old righty has been on the shelf since early April due to a mild right elbow strain. Rotoworld Yesterday, 8:39 am
