    • Rosenthal: Gil could move to pen when Cole returns
According to Ken Rosenthal, the Yankees “are likely to ‘back off’ on Luis Gil in order to have him as a factor for the playoffs.”

Advice: On one hand, backing off Gil makes some sense. The 25-year-old has already thrown 49 innings this season and has not thrown more than 96 innings in any season since 2019. However, when Yankees manager Aaron Boone was asked about his plans for Gil, he mentioned that Gerrit Cole is likely four to six weeks away from returning, which is an eternity during a baseball season. Moving Gil to the bullpen could make sense on the surface, but it’s impossible to tell what position the Yankees rotation will be in by the time Cole comes back. As a result, it’s too early to make a move for your fantasy teams. Rotoworld 46 minutes ago
    • Jon Gray on the 15-day IL with groin injury
Rangers placed Jon Gray (groin) on the 15-day IL.

Advice: Jon was removed from Tuesday’s start after 75 pitches with a groin injury. The team has referred to the injury as a “mild strain” and doesn’t expect him to miss more than 15 days; however, they said the same thing about Nathan Eovaldi and he’s now approaching three weeks on the IL. It might be safe to assume fantasy managers will be without Gray for three to four weeks, but he’s been pitching well enough to hold on your IL if you have spots. Rotoworld Today, 8:47 am

    • Lands on IL with groin strain
The Rangers placed Gray on the 15-day injured list Thursday, retroactive to May 22, with a right groin strain, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Advice: Gray suffered the injury in Tuesday's 5-2 loss to the Phillies, and an MRI revealed a mild strain. He would seem to have a good chance at returning from the IL when his 15 days are up or shortly thereafter, but it will depend on how he recovers over the next several days. Gray had been slated to start Sunday in Minnesota, but it's possible Nathan Eovaldi (groin) will be ready to return that day. Rotowire.com Today, 8:29 am

    • Not expected to make next start
Gray isn't expected to make his next start after he was diagnosed Thursday with a mild right groin strain, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Advice: Gray was removed from his start in Tuesday's 5-2 loss to the Phillies because of the injury. It's not clear yet whether Gray will require a stint on the 15-day injured list, but it would seem to be a distinct possibility. He had been slated to start Sunday in Minnesota, but the Rangers might now need Jose Urena to take the ball that day. Rotowire.com Today, 7:59 am

    • Swipes 12th bag Wednesday
Garcia went 2-for-5 with two runs scored and a stolen base in Wednesday's 8-3 win over the Tigers.

Advice: The 24-year-old put together his fourth multi-hit performance in the last five contests as he extended his hitting streak to 10 games. Garcia is batting .364 (16-for-44) over that stretch, boosting his slash line on the season to .266/.311/.429 with five homers, 12 steals, 30 runs and 32 RBI. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 6:47 pm

    • Getting breather Wednesday
Kim is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Reds.

Advice: Though double-play partner Xander Bogaerts will be in store for a long-term absence after he was diagnosed Wednesday with a fractured shoulder, Kim's absence from the lineup appears to be little more than a maintenance day. Tyler Wade will cover shortstop in Kim's stead. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 1:52 pm

    • Resting Wednesday
Jansen is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the White Sox.

Advice: Jansen will get a breather for the series finale after he was behind the plate both of the previous two days. Alejandro Kirk will draw the start at catcher Wednesday. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 12:06 pm

    • Hitting bench Wednesday
Mountcastle is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cardinals, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.

Advice: After playing the final three innings of Tuesday's suspended game earlier Wednesday and finishing 1-for-3 in Baltimore's 3-1 loss, Mountcastle will get a breather for the regularly scheduled game. Ryan O'Hearn will step in for Mountcastle at first base. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:31 am

    • Ryan Mountcastle takes a seat Wednesday
Ryan Mountcastle is out of the Orioles’ lineup Wednesday for the third time in five days.

Advice: The Orioles are DHing Adley Rutschman today, taking away Mountcastle’s spot. Mountcastle is in a 1-for-24 slump that’s dropped his OPS from .842 to .733. He’d be playing through it on practically any other team, but the stacked Orioles are treating him like a role player. Rotoworld Yesterday, 10:21 am
